Yeah, well, I'm married to a curvy Colombian woman, so the flowers of indie rock womanhood look decidedly dingy and drab to me, and always have. The indie world's concept of sexy is very closely related to its concept of "rock": limp, non-threatening, far more interested in talking than fucking. At every turn, there's been a concerted effort to reduce indie rock to "sensual" music, which is basically just music to play to women, mostly girls. And boy do women like it when it's sexy.

What do you get for your money when you don't feel sexy? Your face?

You get your music out of people who don't want you on the air. If you come off as pretentious or too self-conscious or boring, you're a problem child and that's a very bad thing — but it's also the most useful thing indie-rock has to offer. It says that if you're not the one bringing the music to life, then you can leave. That's a big idea that's at home here. For women, indie music seems to offer the kind of connection to being in the limelight (and the way your music works) they don't get from any other form of music. It's sexy music, in a way, and you don't have to fuck that up in order

The best thing I know by them is Simple Headphone Mind - again my suspicion is that its the choice of collaborator (NWW) who makes that good and the other recent stuff I've heard by them bad.

The album's one of them that keeps me going when I'm thinking of 'The World', but by then they're doing this stuff by themselves again.... In fact, a good chunk of 'Headphones Like Shit' is on a different album, 'The Bleepies' but I don't know enough about that to say it's either any different.

maybe i'd find the groove on "ya hey" less awkward if they'd committed to the reggae thing on it more strongly, i can hear what they were going for now but it doesn't quite get there for me.

I like the fact that they don't overdrive it just to try out the vocal melody, but i get annoyed with some of their drumming as well.


4/10 – This is an okay song without being particularly memorable but it's pretty much a repeatable, generic reggae song, the only things that make it stand out from the crowd are the two lines of "ya say" and "ya here you go/and my soul / i'll get you back to me / yay" and the guitar solo with "kleer." The drumming is ok but isn't really memorable, there is a song called "Niggas and their Liquor" with a similar sound to this but it's pretty much a classic, if you only hear it briefly.

3/10 – I think this song would have been a better overall song if it were played a bit slower in part 2 because the rhythm isn't that great and then the verse and chorus are pretty weak. It's a pretty bad reggae song and doesn't feel interesting at all. As we all know, reggae has been doing just fine without the hype

Like who would bother downvoting a Carly Rae Jepsen album? She seems to be either loved or ignored by most people in the world. Not only do her latest album art have that dark "she could do better" feeling to them that all the other Carly Rae Jepsen covers do, but she was once considered to be one of the best female artists ever and yet she was dismissed in favor of Katy Perry. What makes this an especially cruel joke is that, while the woman in question is beautiful and beautiful and beautiful and beautiful, she would rather go by a different name and live with a separate life than spend five years in prison for murdering someone or for making it to the White House or even having her child killed. She probably wasn't a "super sexy" girl, let alone one who needed to die for the next half century like Katy Perry was.

It has been said here before, but it bears repeating:

(1) Most of the world cares what you name your child if it's a female, just like most people have the same opinion of the female characters of many mainstream cartoons and movies, though they do recognize that the characters are very special and intelligent. If you name a character and then change her clothes to fit your whims, you lose the connection to them.

This album feels, in the best possible way, like it was written & recorded quickly -- from inspiration to studio to wax, with little time for second-guessing or "overworking."

I'd say classic, although the fact that they didn't write their own songs (at least not the good ones) is a hint of dudness. The only exception to this is "Moby Dick." I love the way all of the songs that come out of that movie look like they've been lifted from the same musical. It's one of my favorite songs in all music. It's just a shame that it failed to make it in the film, as it was pretty amazing.

8. "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" (1989)

I don't remember exactly when "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" became the title track on the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper album. I remember getting to my bedroom one night, and hearing Dave on my computer saying, "I think she's the band's fifth member!" I was blown away because I was sitting with my parents and thinking, "You have to be crazy!" So I did a lot of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" research (a very basic one anyway) and found out that the band had released a new version of the song as part of the LP. So I started researching the song right then and there. Here's what I got from that article:

"I Wanna Hold Your Hand" was originally written for the 1972 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and

Melody and harmony means everything. Groove means nothing. In an ideal world, we'd have perfect harmony and melody but we don't.
So now we understand why you must use harmony notes in your music. It makes your music better.
If music is good, then your music should have a good rhythm. I am happy to share with you some music that I used for the opening of my newest album. I'm not talking about my favourite songs here because I am not sure they are good, but some of the best. The first song that is used as an opening is "Beware of the Night". I use this track as the main piece for this album.
So listen closely, and you'll hear how harmony and melody work in music. So tune that guitar up, and then jam over the melody a few times!

I understand what you're saying, but I don't necessarily agree with it. First of all, I think to say that Pablo Honey is "pathologically hook-averse", especially when comparing it to Radiohead's later work, is painfully harsh, particularly as Kid A was only released just in time for Black Mirror and thus a whole lot of the buzz about the album will have worn off by then. Secondly, Honey's songs would have been more akin to Jonny Greenwood's, especially in the sense that they were built around a concept of identity and an inability to really get away from it. The second song here is a particularly notable example, one that I know a fair few people will find surprising and maybe upsetting: "I Don't Know Why" uses a song that's about the possibility of losing your identity with what we associate with death to a song about being trapped in a room with no escape, and this is perhaps what a lot of people take to be the most frightening thing about the album: that it takes the notion of death as something that must be faced and forced upon us from the start. Not least because the album's title (and particularly "Oblivion", which is a reference to a poem by Theodor Adorno, perhaps the greatest philosopher alive today) echoes his own experience on dying, which made him especially wary of letting go and letting

Surprisingly, we haven't done this yet. I'd like to think that we're now at a point in time that people have calmed their tits regarding this band to the point where we can now discuss this record not for what it isn't (yeah, we all know that Radiohead made other albums after this) but for what it is, but for what it is - which is actually a good to very good alternative rock record played by a band that even at this stage were better musicians and had more talent than many in the oversaturated world of '90s alternative rock. While we don't have to be reminded of this, that there were better, older bands like Foo Fighters that had more influence on the scene than us; we do now know that this '90s alt rock album was a success for Radiohead, and they have their work cut out for them to have even another half dozen or so releases in the '90s. Their album is not merely just another album from them, but another '90s alt rock album that stands above the rest, even in their own era. I'm glad that this is the case because it seems like every album that they've released since has failed to fulfill that potential, and I'd like to think that this is something that they realize now, which would take them quite a bit more time to fix.
