As has perhaps been made abundantly obvious by now, Game of Thrones partially abandoned the "real world" King's Landing shooting location of Dubrovnik, Croatia, this season. As many sharp-eyed bloggers pointed out, much of King's Landing in season eight was filmed instead in Spain.

Not only did he clear-cut the forests, but he also ordered everyone to eradicate any trace of the ecosystem, to transport all of the soil and remaining plant matter to another area of the continent, and then cast a spell that makes the forest ecosystem do a time lapse of several years and turn into a desert

she's been OK this season. I've never been able to shake the idea that she was miscast to begin with.

and i just have to disagree with the reddit post about emilia clarke being a good actress in that final scene. i mean, if she can't pull off an angry face when her best friend in the show gets ruthlessly murdered for no reason...

They are, but I think filming in Dubrovnik had become unmanageable, partly because of all the tourists who now flood Dubrovnik because of Game of Thrones.

i thought daenarys looked great in that final scene - mostly her outfit and hair. she seemed v imperial looking almost like a character out of legends of the galactic heroes.

Clarke looks the part (maybe a little too diminutive) which is most of what's required but I've never felt she was terrible. Her callowness, whether intended or not, fits with my idea of the character.

my suspicion, though only time will tell if this is the case, is that the series will end with a few loose ends still left open to help tease out the 3(!) spinoffs they're developing. (sigh)

LOL, even the director was just quoted citing CGI challenges for not having the giant dog in the show and this episode more. And this in a show where people fly fighting dragons.

every single thing I read or hear from these guys seems to be with the express purpose of tamping down expectations for the conclusion.

GRRM did say the end would be bittersweet.
