I agree (and I openly wished for it earlier itt I believe), but as other people have said, shoehorning that turn into the last few episodes is pretty shitty

I hadn't connected this to the Mad King, but Missandrei's last word basically being "fire em up with the dragon" is really close to his last command of "burn them all"

not sure how they're going to justify the dragon being able to do much considering all the mega-crossbows on the ramparts

maybe they can design some devices to eliminate big crossbows

Killing Missanedei felt slightly pointless given they could have just shot Dany with the gigantic crossbows while she was standing there completely unshielded.

I was bothered that they could converse in that last scene considering how far they were from each other. Had to be more than 50 feet, and Tyrion et al didn't even have to shout.

I kept waiting for “fetchez la vache!”

I thought this episode was perfectly fine until the diabolus ex machina double whammy, where first Dany and the dragons don't see those massive ships approaching them despite flying high in the air, and then Euron is lucky enough that the one person he manages to capture from the sinking ships was the one who's death would anger Dany the most. I get it that they're trying to justify her wanting to burn King's Landing, but that's such an artificial way of getting there. Of course this show has always been known for unexpected character deaths, but in the previous seasons they usually resulted from people making bad but understandable decisions, not from characters being incredibly stupid or incredibly lucky.

Also the ships only appeared to have crossbows on the front; seemed pretty vulnerable from a flying dragon approaching from the rear. Can't believe there'd be bad strategy afoot

The last two or three seasons in a nutshell.

I'm not actually that bothered about them getting up and down Westeros quickly - maybe they were at sea for a few days and they already established it would take a couple of weeks for Jon to get down by horse. But the speed at which the news of Missandei's kidnapping got back to Winterfell was insane, I know they have ravens but I've had emails that have taken longer than that.

This felt like the last we'll see of a few characters - Tormund, Gendry, Sam and maybe Bronn all seemed to have their storylines wrapped up. Probably wise to thin the cast out as much as possible at this stage and focus on the characters who really matter.

Obviously the crossbow stuff was ridiculous as was Dany screwfacing throughout but I did like the brutal simplicity with which the second dragon was taken down.

This episode reminded me why I stopped watching in the first place!

Glad that Varys gets to do some machinations now though. Love that guy.

despite the fact he's an orientalist mishmash played by a white guy, varys is my fav character, but he mostly stands in for the courtly atmosphere and ritual that the show doesn't really seem to bother with/get.

Yeah, and Tyrion mentioned the riots back in season 2, which I'd thought they'd rather sweep under the carpet since the citizens have basically stopped existing for a while. He said the people of King's Landing would rise up if they could, and I had to think 'How?' How has Cersei been keeping them down better than could be done in season 2, after she's lost her armies again and again and again?

Well, presumably the citizens of King's Landing are a bit wary of going against a Queen who set up a massive explosion just to get rid of a few opponents, which must've resulted in hundreds of dead civilians too.

Yeah, governments terror bombing their own people always leads to perfect calm and order. No secret plots of any kind.
