well yeah, his claim is pretty similar to Dany's. He was a relative of the murdered king. He has some supernatural freaks telling him that he's the choice of the Lord of Light.

the entire subplot with Stannis was vile enough that everyone, including Melisandre, decided to wash their hands of the entire affair as soon as he was gone

mh, Monday, 6 May 2019 20:11 (four years ago) link

but he spent many years of his life being storms end dude, middle brother ... like he wasn't raised with this destiny.

sarahell, Monday, 6 May 2019 20:11 (four years ago) link

like Stannis is kinda the Joe Biden of Westeros ...

sarahell, Monday, 6 May 2019 20:12 (four years ago) link

dany's older brother was the rightful heir until drogo killed him

findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Monday, 6 May 2019 20:12 (four years ago) link

no matter what Danerys was up to (including incinerating Sam's family) it was nothing compared to the shit Stannis and Melisandre were doing in the name of whatever prophecy

mh, Monday, 6 May 2019 20:13 (four years ago) link

also "rightful heir". weird how much stock people put in the rules when obv no-one in this universe actually obeys them

findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Monday, 6 May 2019 20:13 (four years ago) link

also dany's claim is always very weird because it's predicated on the mad king being murdered and his reign ending that way as being a bad thing when he was obv terrible

findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Monday, 6 May 2019 20:15 (four years ago) link

xp every time Dany mentions her brother I groan and remember how he was the smarter but nearly as loathsome as Joffrey and at no moment do I feel bad about his fate

mh, Monday, 6 May 2019 20:15 (four years ago) link

he was the worst, i was very stoked to see him getting his head melted

findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Monday, 6 May 2019 20:16 (four years ago) link

there was another character who didn't have any prophecies or bloodlines backing him, but who nonetheless took a lot of actions to get himself into a position to rule something or other, and he was mostly treated as a villain.

We were never Breeting Borting (President Keyes), Monday, 6 May 2019 20:18 (four years ago) link

the show is pretty hard on people who believe their own hype

one of my coworkers said that he could imagine Euron carrying around a bag of feral cats and throwing them at people

seems about right

mh, Monday, 6 May 2019 20:20 (four years ago) link

Euron is the first Proud Boy of Westeros imo

omar little, Monday, 6 May 2019 20:26 (four years ago) link

I couldn't completely agree with people referring to the Greyjoys as "the white trash of Westeros" but I get where they're coming from

mh, Monday, 6 May 2019 20:34 (four years ago) link

Theon and Yara's dad going on about how Theon "didn't pay the iron price" for his fancy shirt which apparently means you only get a cool shirt if you take it off someone you killed was really something. And judging from Dad Greyjoy's look, he probably did that decades ago and never changed his shirt

mh, Monday, 6 May 2019 20:36 (four years ago) link

implication was that they basically don't have commerce because paying the gold price for anything is ignoble. must be hard to do your grocery shopping on pyke

findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Monday, 6 May 2019 21:09 (four years ago) link

Dany and her storyline have been trash since at least season 3, if not 2. They literally repeated her one story 3 times: rulers refuse to obey her or capture her, then her dragon breathes fire and the rulers all die/surrender. Repeat. Which might explain why Dany is so tactically dumb: all she ever had to do was say Descarys and she won.

If she ended up being a Mad Queen it would be the most interesting thing to happen to her since she walked out of the fire in S1E10.

Mazzy Tsar (PBKR), Monday, 6 May 2019 21:18 (four years ago) link

I agree (and I openly wished for it earlier itt I believe), but as other people have said, shoehorning that turn into the last few episodes is pretty shitty

Simon H., Monday, 6 May 2019 21:20 (four years ago) link

i sorta resent this show for it's full infiltration of my life, like i can't even buy groceries

Evan, Monday, 6 May 2019 21:24 (four years ago) link

I hadn't connected this to the Mad King, but Missandrei's last word basically being "fire em up with the dragon" is really close to his last command of "burn them all"

mh, Monday, 6 May 2019 21:30 (four years ago) link

not sure how they're going to justify the dragon being able to do much considering all the mega-crossbows on the ramparts

findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Monday, 6 May 2019 21:31 (four years ago) link

maybe they can design some devices to eliminate big crossbows

FernandoHierro, Monday, 6 May 2019 21:32 (four years ago) link

bigger crossbows

FernandoHierro, Monday, 6 May 2019 21:33 (four years ago) link

I liked that they just stuck the big crossbows everywhere. Sort of thought they were going to fire Missandrei out of one when Danny etc turned up.

Blandford Forum, Monday, 6 May 2019 21:35 (four years ago) link

so, did they use all that wildfire when blowing up ships and the big church, or does Tyrion know where the rest is?

mh, Monday, 6 May 2019 21:35 (four years ago) link

it was a bit weird that the crossbow bolt had enough velocity to slice through a ship

giant thick armor, of course

bet Euron was touched that everyone knew about his baby already

as someone posting about quite the luck developing the world's best anti-ship and anti-dragon weapon all in one xxxp

the worst version of this is Jaime sneaking in and blowing up the castle in King's Landing, closing the loop he started when killing the Mad King and rendering part of his life moot

mh, Monday, 6 May 2019 21:39 (four years ago) link

it's called a ballista, guys

mh, Monday, 6 May 2019 21:39 (four years ago) link

i believe 'big crossbow' is what qyburn's original prototype was called

FernandoHierro, Monday, 6 May 2019 21:41 (four years ago) link

I mean, don't get me wrong, "big crossbow" does have a ring to it

mh, Monday, 6 May 2019 21:42 (four years ago) link

i just rewatched the big crossbow reveal scene. so good.

Cersei's on Arya's list, right?

kinder, Monday, 6 May 2019 21:48 (four years ago) link

I feel roasted by the fact the second comment on that article is someone being a pedant about ballista

not as bad as being dragon-roasted, but still

It looked like Dany had 20 Unsulllied left in the KL stand-off, unless the rest were hiding behind the shrubbery.

Lars Ulriac Quintet (Leee), Monday, 6 May 2019 21:57 (four years ago) link

either arya or jamie is going to kill cersie, the only question to me is which one. maybe arya will change her face to look like Jamie and do it mid-coitus.

akm, Monday, 6 May 2019 21:58 (four years ago) link

Missandrei was really cute I'm sorry she lost her head.

Just kidding

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 6 May 2019 22:20 (four years ago) link

Killing Missanedei felt slightly pointless given they could have just shot Dany with the gigantic crossbows while she was standing there completely unshielded.

Matt DC, Monday, 6 May 2019 22:21 (four years ago) link

I was bothered that they could converse in that last scene considering how far they were from each other. Had to be more than 50 feet, and Tyrion et al didn't even have to shout.

Arya kills Cersei's unborn baby in the womb, takes its face, then kills Cersei from the inside out like a chestburster.
