make a ~0.5*kings_landing_size crossbow and destroy kings landing imo

yes, that will take 400 pieces of wood and 12 hours

so second to last episode is now a big dumb (physical) battle for kings landing, and then a final episode to say goodbye to everyone, i guess

Final scene will be king/queen butt wiggling down into that throne to gasp chorus imo

just a real wigglefest after many bigger crossbows and the gasps the gasps will be deafening

Were Dany and friends going to King's Landing directly? I thought they were stopping by Dragonstone first?

why did theh wait for dragons to build the ultimate antiboatvweapon in this world of boat wars

at this point i'm mostly here in case they kill dany as that will hasten a more palatable endgame that does not involve forcing myself to watch emilia clarke sorta kinda almost act.

and yeah, most of the BIG TACTICAL SURPRISES and storyline points are all very labored and nonsensical though i am sure lots of the internet would like to explain that if you just read this essay

Starting S8 because I finally signed up HBO Now, the CGI of Dany and Jon riding dragons looks like absolute dogshit.

qyburn's big crossbow has proved genius in the end

Tormund is the only good character on this show.

My favorite moment of the episode is Qyburn acknowledging that the screams of burning children is “not a pleasant sound.” Spoken like someone familiar with the screams of burning children.

This show is batting .000 this season.

Even though Dany is a true idiot in using the world's only living flying helicopter gunships, how did Euron and company get so good at shooting moving targets with a ballista from a range of at least a mile when there was literally no way for them to practice?

I liked this episode. Since the seasons overtook the books the show has gone to sketch pad mode but at least yesterday moved events on. Tbh when they announced the last two seasons episodes the butthurts should have read the runes and started rereading the books from the beginning again.

Question for those that follow cable politics. Expensive or no, this show is obviously a huge success and moneymaker for HBO. Few of the actors seem to have much else going on. What's the big hurry? Why burn through the books so fast, why truncate the final season? From what I've read of the plot this season is like they were suddenly given a hard deadline and told to wrap it up ASAP, just hurtling forward, everything be damned.

How is it that “butthurt” has entered into usage for any situation involving a “dissatisfied consumer”

surely the actors' contracts run out after this season (and should have run out earlier, but HBO broke the last season into two chunks) and if there were to be a 9th season the main player would demand steep raises. Better to just start making prequels with unknowns from HBO's biz standpoint.

don't know where you're looking but the main thing I see people talking about is OMG OMG Jaime and Brienne OMG OMG

Maybe that is not a Starbucks cup. Maybe that is a Velndarimenian Goblet, used by House Velndarimenian as a means to bolster goodwill and energy during the great conflicts of the Time of Sleep, when the land was beset by a wave of sudden births and everyone was operating on little rest. It was said that on days when the clouds and gloom were so oppressive that the exhausted people could barely operate, the Velndarimenian Goblet could make the sun come out and boil off the fog and haze, sending soldiers into battle with a burst of new energy, raining death and destruction on their enemies with a relentless supernatural power balanced by the weight of a curse: once imbibed, liquid from the Velndarimenian Goblet must be constantly refilled and consumed, lest the magic dissipate and a dark mood descend back upon the land.

That's a terrible post but it's still better than last night's episode

Starbucks cup obviously a symbol that if both sides of the battle for the Iron Throne are too extreme then a hero of moderation will come in as a third party contender for the crown

There were so many narrative inconsistencies and logical nonsense but the weirdest and most dissonant thing about last night's episode, for me, was that since S1 there's been a decidedly unique feature of this show, and that was simply that both the characters and the showrunners themselves valued the lives of their characters less than I did as a viewer. This episode upended that. The camera was lingering on Edd's face and (endlessly) on Jorah's face, a new plot point hinged around a hostage situation involving.. Dany's translator? I was looking at the screen, like, "you do realize that it wasn't that long ago that this show unceremoniously exploded four of its main characters without hesitation or eulogy"

was I the only one who was very confused as to where the Cersei showdown was meant to be taking place

Maybe the Starbucks cup was a nod to all the hard work and long hours they have been putting in.

I remember reading that the final space battle in Return of the Jedi features amidst the chaos a sneaker and an actual kitchen sink. Maybe it's like that, but scaled way down.

how did Dany et al get to King's Landing so fast and where the fuck is Jon Snow (and Jamie) who presumably left a day earlier? Did they take a long route or something?

i liked that little confrontation at the end of the ep in the desert it felt v. pulpy + conanesque

We were denied a scene of Euron seeing the dragon-killing ballista and doing his googly-eyed bit while exclaiming, "Have you checked to see what this would do to a SHIP?"

obviously if I were writing the show, he'd have a lot more dialog but it'd all be focused on islands, ships, sailing, etc.

I love that Qyburn of all people is the only person to have thought, "What if a crossbow but bigger?"

this is a world with 12,000 years of recorded history and no one has discovered electricity, so yeah maybe making a crossbow bigger is a genius idea there

Cersei used the rest of the mad king's explosives cache blowing up the Westeros vatican, right?

My biggest gripe is entirely my own I guess, but I was having a really hard time believing they cleaned up the million wight corpses that would have been surrounding the entire castle from the night or 2 before. Not even with a fleet of snow plows would they have been able to clean it up that fast. And from a show perspective (not just a Simpsons magic xylophone pickiness one), it would have been really effective visually to have all the characters restricted to these shoveled out paths as the only way to navigate around the overwhelming piles of bodies extending all the way out to the Dothraki slaughter. Would have been a perfect way to underline how horrifying and hopeless everything actually was now that the sun was out and you could see the entire threat and aftermath clearly. Oh well!
