In fact, I appreciate the snare-focused production stuff, it's interesting and silly and totally OK

I'm going to my son's preschool festival tomorrow and fully expect a Kids Bop version of this to be playing there

The video is like, what we gave Meghan Trainor too much money and too much power?

can someone delete this new song so i don't have to hear it playing anywhere

buttigieg play the blues (crüt), Friday, 26 April 2019 14:16 (four years ago) link

I liked "Shake It Off," despised "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," liked "Look What You Made Me Do," and this is... fine.

This song sounds like someone tried to do one of those ultimate-lifeform cloning experiments by cross-pollinating “Roar” and “Fight Song” and every other Lite FM inspiro-pop standard and, like, it was a success, but the result is still in that creepy early stage you see with artificial creatures in movies where it doesn’t fully understand its power yet and can’t, like, stand on its own (which I guess is analogous here to having the most basic of all chord progressions)
I’m guessing by later this month it will have escaped its lab and witnessed some example of human cruelty that turns it against us as a species, at which point, like, sorry, we’re done for

You can't see it but I had an epiphany (Champiness), Friday, 26 April 2019 14:25 (four years ago) link

Oh yeah, Brendon Urie really looks like he's having lots of fun in this, and is not as bad as I thought he would be when reading that he'd be on the song.

triggercut, Friday, 26 April 2019 14:32 (four years ago) link

xpost Are you saying that we have reached the Singularity?

Brendon Urie always looks like he is having fun, because he is Peak Theatre Kid and it looks like Taylor can't stop making cheap-seats faces, either.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 April 2019 14:35 (four years ago) link

brendon did a ton of vines (as above), he's in his element

lmao "hey man you guys really looked you were having fun up there" - now we're reaching for "just saw your coworker's terrible band and you have to say something nice" level comments

Is there really a 'me' in 'team'? This seems debatable.

jmm, Friday, 26 April 2019 14:51 (four years ago) link

the deterioration of her lyrics remains depressing to me but i eventually grew to kinda love reputation including "look what you made me do," it is very good at being what it is

hoping for a similar feeling about this one in two years i guess

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 26 April 2019 14:59 (four years ago) link

reputation is a pretty great album its pre-release singles notwithstanding. i just felt like she had wrung everything she could from the post-skrillex pop template she settled on w max martin & shellback but this is pretty close to my worst nightmare of what she would turn to next

J0rdan S., Friday, 26 April 2019 15:07 (four years ago) link

like, do we need to crowdfund $20 million or something for her to just go ahead and make like a sheryl crow or bonnie raitt album? what's going on here

J0rdan S., Friday, 26 April 2019 15:08 (four years ago) link

instead of this new one i would like to talk about how "don't blame me" is one of her very best songs

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 26 April 2019 15:09 (four years ago) link

this is the first time she's sounded manic and desperate, like someone pleading for her life; she could've titled it "You Must Love Me."

these TS first singles are feeling more and more like Eminem's reaching-for-relevancy first singles

I mean, my accent isn't always the greatest, esp first thing in the morning, and I don't think they're horrendous for non-native speakers; I just don't get the point of using non-French-speaking pop stars to do... whatever it is they're doing there.

i don't mind this but i also think everything panic at the disco touches is inherently dumb as balls and i don't know why she'd work with that guy when there are *waves arms around* all them other boys to work with

according to the eight year old daughter of some friends, Taylor Swift is "old" and also "bad" and Billie Eilish is both cool and good.

the video of excerpts is pretty priceless

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Saturday, 15 June 2019 10:07 (four years ago) link

two months pass...

I’ve only really absorbed this record in the past few days in the wake of the release of LOVER, and I made my own tracklisting for it:

1. ...Ready For It?
2. I Did Something Bad
3. So it Goes...
4. Delicate
5. End Game (feat. Ed Sheeran and Future)
6. Dress
7. Dancing With Our Hands Tied
8. Don’t Blame Me
9. Call It What You Want
10. This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

Begins and ends how it always should’ve: with Taylor remaining joyfully and deliriously bad. “Getaway Car” doesn’t do anything to supplement the flow of this sequence; that and “King Of My Heart” would be the B-sides. “New Year’s Day” works better as a hidden track on an alternate LOVER tracklist where the title track serves as the closer. “Gorgeous” and “LWYMMD” never should’ve seen the light of day.

winters (josh), Tuesday, 27 August 2019 18:47 (four years ago) link

i was just thinking that time has been unexpectedly kind to this record. even "look what you made me do" won me over, it's kinda delightfully arch out of its immediate context. "this is why we can't have nice things" is the only song i find too embarrassing to bear, good hook though
