I wouldn't say no to a whole Drogba riddim album tbh (this version is Busy Signal):

More brilliance from the 6ix bench, Chronic Law's "Hillside":

oooooh, busy!

his ad libs are pretty inspired on that. I wonder if there'll be any original afrobeats on his new album, he always sounds fantastic versioning them

speaking of Busy, this is quite good: http://www.largeup.com/2019/04/22/busy-signal-gotta-tell-ya-zum-zum/

I’m here for Busy!

I’m only aware of his Afro triptych from five (!) years ago, I think:

“Same Way” (=Sarkodie’s “You Go Kill Me”);
“Bou Yah (Vampire Teeth)” (=Mafikizolo’s “Khona”);
“Professionally” (=P-Square’s “Personally”)

Has he done any others since?

In somewhat related news, Popcaan jumped on the remix of Ghanaian reggae/dancehall singer J.Derobie’s “Poverty”, one of the year’s biggest songs in Ghana so far.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRwkDWFVsrM

And fusing things up even more, follow up “Irie” was produced by Juls:

breastcrawl, Friday, 26 April 2019 06:17 (four years ago) link

hm, yeah that might be it for afro-Busy, I can't really recall--I definitely forgot those were 5 years old!

Very interesting to hear Juls do basically straight reggae like that; the tempo and empty space on it almost sounds like Rhythm & Sound. I wasn't totally wowed by "Poverty" though.

Yeah, that one goes hard. And Tyga is the right choice for a guest feature.

I think maybe my favourite summery dancehall jam this year is I-Octane's Riviera / Born Gyalis::

TeeJay’s version is awesome too.

breastcrawl, Thursday, 20 June 2019 20:55 (four years ago) link

Indeed. There are a few good songs on it. I think maybe the Chronic Law one is the biggest at the moment?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVLfQxqyaGY

and maybe Teejay? (edit: breastcrawl beat me to it)

Yeah, I think this will quite possibly be the big riddim this summer.

getting Kartel, Sean Paul, Squash, TeeJay, and Chronic Law all on it def a strong play!

Has Kartel's voice ever sounded this worn and tired? The song is a banger, though!

I feel like it's been a while since we had a shameless play for summer anthem, so this Konshens & Jahvillani tune ("Every Gyal Vibe") is actually kind of refreshing (esp compared to some of the rote trap riddims I skipped through before it):

"Depend Pan Nobody"

rob, Saturday, 24 August 2019 12:42 (four years ago) link

Yeah, “Depend Pan Nobody” is nice.

What are the other tracks that you know will be on this new Busy album? I feel with dancehall artists it can be hard to get the full picture on Spotify. A lot of tracks never appear there, or only belatedly. Also, the label situation often seems complicated.

breastcrawl, Saturday, 24 August 2019 18:23 (four years ago) link

the album is called Parts of the Puzzle; tracklist is up on itunes

"Stay So" and "One Way" are the first two songs and would be my picks for his best recent tracks

"Dolla Van" is on there and that's a jam

"Got To Tell You" is more recent and has an irresistible hook (thanks to Cutty Ranks, but still):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MsWt_psndM

the last track is called "Jah Know Dawg" which I'm kinda hoping is this, though might not be:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJCl2HXq8hI

rob, Saturday, 24 August 2019 18:52 (four years ago) link

so that’s 3/5 on Spotify then, seems about the going rate

breastcrawl, Saturday, 24 August 2019 18:59 (four years ago) link

yeah part of why I'm wondering about that "Dawg" track is it was never officially released anywhere iirc despite there being artwork
I'm surprised "Dolla Van" isn't on spotify though, that's at least on Apple

rob, Saturday, 24 August 2019 19:05 (four years ago) link

When I played his recent stuff earlier today I also liked “Furnace Flow” with G3n3xgy, of which there’s only this video-wise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HEhUeNn9K4
