There's an interesting passage in Tracey Thorn's autobiog about recording Eden at the same time as Sade recording Diamond Life - same studio, same producer* - and how they were both coming at jazz from different angles - indie post-punk v. shiny pop.
*Working Week were there doing their album as well, I think.
