Klopp/'pool >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ole/Utd

Do you like 70s hard rock with a guitar hero? (Tom D.), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 21:17 (five years ago) link

They were crap in both legs against Man U, at least until the errors made the scoreline comfortable enough. A tiny bit of harrying at Old Trafford and they looked like a rabbit in the headlights.

FernandoHierro, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 21:17 (five years ago) link

tbh id cheer Ajax

I have a sinking feeling I am in Buenos Aires and Doncaster on the semi final dates and will probably miss both.

Are the 30th and 7th confirmed?

Ajax with no Son isn’t going to a picnic.

Amazing match.

Is son on a ban?

lefal junglist platton (wtev), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 21:23 (five years ago) link

Yes, yellow cards.

cant agree

Turns out I’m going to be in Rosario - which is (kind of) Poch’s home town. It unfortunately doubles as Leo Messi’s home town so i might struggle to find a bar showing Spurs.

Hopefully the Sissoko injury won’t be too bad. Idk if Foyth is trusted to play CM but there isn’t really anyone else fit.

ShariVari, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 21:51 (five years ago) link

They won't be on at the same time tho

groovypanda, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 22:00 (five years ago) link

Yep - both semi-finals are listed as the 30th but I guess that one will be on the 1st and they haven’t decided which.

ShariVari, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 22:01 (five years ago) link

playing out of position for most the game trying to shut down the best attacking team in europe is not flattering but dele's positioning, awareness and runs were choice, really the only good thing about that midfield

ogmor, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 22:04 (five years ago) link

wanyama tackled well imo and was surprisingly good in the air

think dele lucas eriksen would struggle to ever put in a combined performance as bad again tbh

fremme nette his simplicitte (darraghmac), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 22:07 (five years ago) link

still sad about wanyama not playing for celtic more 6 fucking years later

findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 22:11 (five years ago) link

just got in, expected as many new posts as the afternoon of City's first Prem title, think it's fallen short but I'll probably get over it

Terry Major-Ball Will Tell You (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 22:30 (five years ago) link

missed the game ffs. Cool result though

fancy Liverpool against Barca too, sadly

Number None, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 22:48 (five years ago) link

Wanyama looked pretty rusty and was skinned several times and there's next to no chance of him being fit for the next round in any case.

How long are Winks and Dier out for?

Matt DC, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 23:28 (five years ago) link

poch will pick thatchers corpse at cm and not only will it work and not only will you cheer it, it will still be less surprising than this having happened with sissoko this season

fremme nette his simplicitte (darraghmac), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 23:38 (five years ago) link

Picked the wrong night to fill out my tax returns :/

Think Spurs is a more difficult opponent for Ajax than ManCity. I too fancy Liverpool having a decent chance against Barca tbh.

still hate var tho. the novelty is going to wear off fast

ogmor, Thursday, 18 April 2019 08:01 (five years ago) link

^^ same.

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 18 April 2019 08:07 (five years ago) link

same as cricket. it takes the physical feeling of elation away at a goal (which affects the experience of watching on tv as well as people at the match). it takes judgment off the pitch. as we saw last night it replaces that surge of adrenaline with bewilderment and uncertainty. and a technology that was justified on the basis of removing egregious blunders gets used to make pixel fine judgments (the llorente “handball” last night - no intention, no hand to ball, unavoidable, and yet, did it perhaps brush his elbow?). the space of error just moves into protracted microscopic video analysis. the main driver behind it was media controversy boosting.

absolutely hilarious last night of course.

Moussa Sissoko told L'Equipe that he did not realise Tottenham had gone through to the Champions League semi-finals until a member of the coaching staff informed him in the dressing room that Manchester City's last-gasp goal had been disallowed.

The French midfielder, who was replaced in the first half due to injury, was so distraught after Raheem Sterling scored that he immediately walked down the tunnel and did not realise the goal had been ruled out for offside a minute later.

"I was on the bench when I saw the goal that made it 5-3," he said. "I was so upset that I returned directly to the dressing room.

"I was alone, no-one had accompanied me, no TV screen was broadcasting the game. In my head we were eliminated. Then one of the staff members entered the dressing room and told me: 'Incredible, we did it!'

"I said: 'How did we do it?' At that moment, he told me that the goal had been disallowed. So I put on a t-shirt, I forgot about my injury and I ran outside to join the others, not to miss the celebrations for such a historic moment. It was an incredible, emotional shock."

Amazing. Also read somewhere Son wasn't aware a yellow would get him suspended...

Dirk Jan Klaas "Klaas-Jan" Huntelaar

findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 30 April 2019 17:59 (four years ago) link

His goal scoring stats are pretty phenomenal.

Ned Caligari (Tom D.), Tuesday, 30 April 2019 18:00 (four years ago) link

xp there's a magnificent clip out there somewhere, where when he was just playing for Milan, the pundit keeps shouting "Jan Klaas Oentelahr! Jan Klaas Oentelahr!" after him scoring, mixing up his two first names.

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 30 April 2019 18:08 (four years ago) link

the only person that our dear departed nakhers ever claimed to resemble

imago, Tuesday, 30 April 2019 18:37 (four years ago) link

So what'll be Spurs' strategy tonight? I think a good way to start would be, wait for it, Mou-ball. 2017 EL cup final Mou-ball, when ManU won the EL. Chasing Ajax, hoofing the ball to Llorente in this case, skip midfield. Think Ajax will play how they always play (they can't adjust even if they wanted to), but Spurs have the ability to change tactic.

I'm already killed at least ten times in this sordid build-up, from supermarket selling "Tottenhamburgers" to the worst possible punditry, so COYS.

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 30 April 2019 18:40 (four years ago) link

xp WAHT?! Really?

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 30 April 2019 18:40 (four years ago) link

Just when you think you can't respect Nahk more etc

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 30 April 2019 18:41 (four years ago) link

OT: do we have a "footballers who really shouldn't become pundits after their playing days" thread? Or would it break the board? Bcz VdV, srsly.

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 30 April 2019 18:41 (four years ago) link

Amazing.

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 30 April 2019 19:17 (four years ago) link

Looked offside but that might just be the complete lack of a defence.

ShariVari, Tuesday, 30 April 2019 19:18 (four years ago) link

Think it's prob the latter, yeah

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 30 April 2019 19:18 (four years ago) link

Very lucky not to be two.
