also deserves props for raising the profile of under night which is the best active fighting game right now as it turns out

It's fun! Wish I had time to play it beyond the demo, but it still made my list. There were SO many fighters this year.
And yes, Under Night rules.

yeah that demo weekend was so fun that it basically singlehandedly got me back into fighting games after like 10 years of ignoring them

hi I played Lumines for the first time last year, guess what it's good

much like tropical freeze, i think this is possibly the best game ever of its genre but it's not really a 2018 game

yeah yeah :P

i'm fine with them being on the list i just play too many games so its a much needed point of disqualification for my own ballot

i think i said that last time though, i don't have a new witty comeback sorry

that's my vote. northgard is an RTS but the way it's designed it's more slow and methodical. you can overextend and when winter comes it'll destroy you which means that strategic considerations for expansion are more importantly than inputs per second. it's v clever. i haven't played much multiplayer with it but the campaign is definitely worth playing through.

i think i threw octopath a tiny number of points. i liked the idea of it more than the execution, i'm afraid. i didn't ever finish it tho, perhaps i'll go back at some point.

octopath has a good rpg system and some cool story beats but the structure just doesn't work out. i still threw it some points since i like the moment to moment gameplay and the music a ton

Holedown was 2018’s only real good mobile time waster that I glommed on to and I got to the end too fast

Yeah same, sure I played Wordament years ago, am I misremembering? Was I playing on PC or something?

Just bought Holedown, looks like a fun time!
