There's a very interesting take on the costs to the person attempting to smuggle themselves across the Southern border by the guy who is the alternative presenter on Trumpcast from a couple of days back.
Apparently people tend to borrow so much to get across that they get into a spiral of debt meaning they need to get into the US to earn money to repay. & being sent back just means getting further and further in when one has already sold up everything valuable and had to come up with collateral.
He was saying that climate change has prevented reliability of crop growth as income source. So even if one hasn't hocked or sold off land one can't be sure crop will be sellable. So likely that one is returning to next to nothing.
