Damn, I was hoping I could come back for some belated Will of the Force clowning. Because if no one forces you to watch it, will you? Rise of the Skywalkers is such a bland kind of bad title.

I mean whatever, it doesn't suck, there's just nothing compelling about this raft of movies. I can't stand Daisy Ridley's one-note acting. I can't stand JJ Abrams obsession with long shots of people breathing heavily. I can't stand the fan service stuff. This looks like an entertaining movie but not a good movie.

looks like shit, bad title. I know people shit on the last one a lot because of the wonky plot but at least it had some visual flair.

yes I think what she brings to the role (and what Driver is able to do with his as well) are what make the new series worth seeing.

I guess it’s hard for me to tell how much of the weak characterization is her and how much is the writing or directing. But it’s definitely one note.

I've accepted that all I really need out of these movies is to hear the classic foley fx on cinema speakers.

I think it's a good trailer (and a terrible title), but it's a J.J. Abrams Star Wars film - I'll save my breathlessness for the Rian Johnson ones upcoming.

Johnson's movie takes place in about two days of movie time and seemed to wrap up everything it was telling - not knowing the previous movie maybe meant I missed lots of "surprising" stuff, but what did you think could have been followed through upon?

Expecting the final shots of Fisher to be as crackly blue hologram as Leia rises to...the occasion thus honouring the film's title because what other explanation for it could there even be.

it makes a big deal of literally burning down the last remnants of the jedi order, which is undercut at the end by the jedi library being stashed in the falcon

my read on this is: symbolism, ritual, reverence are destroyed; the order is destroyed; knowledge is preserved

it feints towards kylo turning away from the dark side or rey turning towards it after snoke is killed

the latter could be cool in a "top the ESB cliffhanger" way but the former would be a disaster because the prospect of another jj abrams star wars movie is grim enough without "also adam driver isn't the villain anymore". nevertheless, to me, that these two characters, whose common ground is a desperation to transcend star wars, would (ironically) have violently opposed visions of what a post-star-wars star wars universe would look like, or of how to prevent it from relapsing into star wars, makes more sense than that one would now become the other's right hand. they prob will in the third one anyway tho cuz yeah none of this is going to be coherently followed up.

that trailer is just shots of things i recognize intercut with captions telling the third generation in a row that every generation has a star war. difficult to argue i guess
