I’ve found a good way to speed up rewatching the earlier seasons is to fast forward through any scene involving Theon.

I did that esp with the Ramsay Bolton stuff. And skipped most of the Dany stuff.

Yeah once she hits Mereen just zip right past that stuff

I stopped watching this a couple of seasons ago and I think my wife had stopped a season before that. But I have friends who are *super* into its return, which, fair enough, people like the show, but I still find funny, since it's a will they/won't they soap opera with ice zombies and dragons and magic and *I'm* the nerd for *not* watching it. Oh, how the world has changed.

I wish they were half as excited about the return of Deadwood.

i did that as well, plus almost all of the ramsey scenes, anything dorne, most of the animal/people torture scenes, some of the daenerys stuff

it's funny how fully a quarter of this widely beloved show is just complete garbage

i only watch it for the the car chases

i feel like this show could really be popular if it just got some press

at this stage i'm just watching to see how sean bean manages to pull it off. i bet he thought they were joking when they said he would play every character in this show for the rest of his life. humour aside he has been a revelation - let the beans keep coming that's my take!

some of the bean cgi involved has been incredible - both the times when it makes people look more like sean bean or eerily similar (the beany valley) or the times when it looks nothing like him but you know in your heart it is he.

i'd be into this show if it could be cross-promoted somehow, possibly with a bobblehead

Think about this: Who else has a throne? The Burger King, that's who.

Jay Z and Kanye, Solomon Burke, Elvis ...

i was totally burnt out on this show but as we get so close to it coming back i have to admit i'm excited to see it wrap up. i don't have a lot of confidence in them ending it in a satisfying way but it's hard to watch so much of a show over such a long period of time and not have feelings about it coming to an end even if it maybe should've ended two seasons ago. A solid 1/4 of the source material is garbage too tbf

agree - they never explored dorne enough. a good start to the season imo would be some sort of storm which leaves dany isolated and alone in a foreign land.

Rooting for the Night King and that the entire thing is a metaphor for global warming to piss off all of the fanboys. Night King 2020!

Right! Like, the Sandals resort they used as the primary filming location for the Dorne scenes probably had a pretty sweet activity room, spa and parking lot. Why didn't we get to see those parts of Dorne culture?

All the Dorne stuff as depicted on the show was dumb as hell. As I'm re-watching, really only the first 2 seasons were great.
My memory of the last few seasons is pretty hazy. I remember the battles being impressively staged, but that's about it.

Doubt they're going to introduce new locations at this point. All depends how far south the undead get (I feel like there has to be some payoff on Dany's vision of a destroyed snowy Iron Throne room back in season 2 but seems like that would involve killing off pretty much everyone and jumping forward in time per episode a lot more). Rooting for the Night King to get more than 30 seconds of scene in the opener.

I suppose that pretty pretty waterfall was foreshadowing because it was garbage as a scene in itself.

I loved this episode, but partially this was the case because I watched with a large group? Very worthwhile

Weird mixture of shame/pride that my friend whispered to me “where are they” and I saw the banner and recognized it as House Umber and said “they’re at Last Hearth, I think”. I have internalized too much of this show’s mythology

Sam’s scene with Danaerys was unexpected and emotionally devastating, and the logical next step— “you set aside your crown for the good of your people, would she do the same?”— was a brilliant bit of plotting, I thought, and unexpected

Thought the episode was good overall, except for Jon and Dany’s Whole New World dragon ride. They were bending over backwards to reference earlier episodes, particularly the first two, but I liked that. Also loved the new title sequence

i would say the new title sequence was the best part of the episode.

cringing during the dragon waterfall sequence - omg that dialogue was sooo bad and Jon and Dany have no chemistry whatsoever.

I was pleasantly surprised that Jon didn't immediately start defending Dany to Sam.

I did appreciate the Sam scenes and the pushback on Dany in general. it seems like they directed Sophie Williams to mimic Cersei's brand of detached skepticism and as a result she was more compelling than usual.

The Jon/Danys scenes were interesting bc of that lack of chemistry, which played up a lot of what I think was some of intentional awkwardness. Maybe partially since they seem to be slightly pushing Danys towards becoming—if not a villain—at least someone who needs to be pushed back against by other characters with better less power-mad intent, and having one of the show’s consistently decent and honest characters outright say she doesn’t deserve to be queen is a pretty decent sign of where they might be heading.

Good episode. Where was Brienne? Had she gone off somewhere at the end of last season?

She was standing behind Bran when Jon first greeted him and Sansa, and I think she briefly made eye contact with Arya as well.
