That piece reads like a parody.

caught a minute of a pod talking about how the dismissal of nielsen means by statute the deputy is the new director, the admin didnt plan for that and announced the “new director,” leaving nielsen’s final act to be dismissal of her backup. Dunno if that’s how it’ll play out or be styled.

Meanwhile everyone’s walking around like it’s a fucking commercial, i hate these days.

Hunt3r, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 15:07 (five years ago) link

Heard that re Nielsen. & the person went onto joke about the person she fired having to fire somebody as she herself left.

Also hearing that the idea of leaving every official position being filled by an acting official may be as much tactic as mistake.
& it all meaning there would be less actual resistance to any policy trump tried to introduce.

“I don’t know whether Bob Mueller supported my conclusion” on obstruction, Barr says.

— southpaw (@nycsouthpaw) April 10, 2019

boy the media really nailed it with their "TRUMP FOUND INNOCENT OF ALL WRONGDOING" headlines

frogbs, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 15:41 (five years ago) link

Poor Mueller. The only guy who read his 400 page manuscript didn't really understand it.

"I am concerned about it," Barr says of spying on the Trump campaign in 2016. "There might be abuses that don't rise to the level of a crime."

He declined to explain the basis for his concern about spying in 2016.

This Barr seems a traet

I am reluctantly coming to think that the only way for Dems to win is to get their own WWE-style candidate with about five talking points repeated ad naseum, together with plenty of the bombast and name calling. There is so much noise these days, I am not sure the principled reasoned candidate.

Someone talk me off the ledge, please.

I think the repubs tried and true “cut taxes/less government” is such a concise message for low information voters to rally around over anything the dems can offer.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 18:08 (five years ago) link

funny how Republicans sell their own "less government" message by being absolute shit at it every time they get power

its like a 12 year old intentionally doing a poor job mowing the lawn so he doesn't get asked to do it anymore

frogbs, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 18:10 (five years ago) link

Yeah, for the majority of voters “cut taxes/less government” is much more viscerally appealing than "liberty and justice for all".

A is for (Aimless), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 18:12 (five years ago) link

more like "access to liberty and justice for those who are willing to work hard and play by the rules"

These two posts were almost exactly what I had in mind. Like maybe Dems just need to stop being adults and start slinging mud like the rest of the children.

why though? like are these fucking imbeciles just going to be like ok i like libruls now

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 19:17 (five years ago) link

This my cynicism speaking, but maybe because taking the high(er) road isn't doing us a whole lot of fucking good either?

I mean, I don't want the Dems to dive into the mud pool either, but I'm in one of my periodic "nothing matters anyway" moods. It's just exhausting hoping something might one day be even marginally less terrible.

Question :

If Hilary stood against Trump.

Would the people who voted for her, go "nah, I'll vote trump this time"?

Probably very few. So, the implication is there would be more switching the other way.

Then again, would people say "ah, I don't think I'll bother voting this time"?

Mark G, Thursday, 11 April 2019 06:19 (five years ago) link

So, the

how on earth is one even faintly implied by the other

also how is this question useful after 29 months of litigating this issue daily in these threads

If Barr is back to exploring the 9dea of spying on the 2016 Trump campaign is he far from launching a further investigation into Hilary Clinton.
& that after like half the trump cabinet has been outed conducting official business on private communication devices.

Stevolende, Thursday, 11 April 2019 08:54 (five years ago) link

Trump knows what's in the Mueller report. His sudden push to control the IRS and investigate the FBI may be his way of helping Barr justify the censorship of the report that the attorney general is going to let the senate judiciary committee see. Another normal day.

skronktopia (FlopsyDuck), Thursday, 11 April 2019 10:17 (five years ago) link

Would it be empowering for Trump/counterintuitive for the dems to begin a discussion of what to do in the even of Trump losing in 2020 but refusing to relinquish the WH?

Tiltin' My Lens Photography (stevie), Thursday, 11 April 2019 10:59 (five years ago) link

I’m aghast that the NY Post would use this photo — the moment of death of hundreds of my fellow NYers — to score a cheap political point.

This is beyond grotesque. It’s shameful. pic.twitter.com/dxrIEWC62B

(•̪●) (carne asada), Thursday, 11 April 2019 13:17 (five years ago) link

Ugh.

NYPost, I don't expect them to be careful with anything, the fuckers. But I do wish she was a little more careful with her words, given that she's a right-wing target now and this seems to happen ... monthly? Bi-weekly?

Some People Did Something and We Tortured Some Folks--pretty much sums it all up

We were never Breeting Borting (President Keyes), Thursday, 11 April 2019 13:39 (five years ago) link

I'm sorry Josh but that's a bullshit take. her comments were grossly taken out of context.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Thursday, 11 April 2019 13:42 (five years ago) link

yeah this is the Homer Simpson "sweet sweet can" thing in real life

frogbs, Thursday, 11 April 2019 13:45 (five years ago) link

I read her original comments and get and agree with what she was saying. I just meant, literally, she should be more careful, because often it's not what she is saying but how she says it that gets her in hot water. Take AOC (who is not a fair comparison, but still). The stuff she says is generally at worst mildly provocative, which is why the right has to twist her words to make her look bad. Omar, though, seemingly lacks her savvy, which is why her stuff is so easily cherry picked to seem more inflammatory or controversial than it may actually be. imo.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 11 April 2019 14:10 (five years ago) link

so their strategy is working , just get her to shut the fuck up and know her place

I say fuck that shit , they are going to do this no matter what

(•̪●) (carne asada), Thursday, 11 April 2019 14:13 (five years ago) link

yeah, I don't even think the uproar is about the point she was making, but rather the kind of distanced, bloodlessness of that phrase. It's not like the context really changes that.

We were never Breeting Borting (President Keyes), Thursday, 11 April 2019 14:15 (five years ago) link

xp yes double down on everything, there's nothing to lose imo

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Thursday, 11 April 2019 14:15 (five years ago) link

xpost I don't think she should shut up at all! She can say the same stuff, with the same righteous anger, just choose her words more carefully. Or maybe it doesn't matter anymore, so she can say whatever, however she wants. She does say "raise hell, make people uncomfortable." I just don't want her to get hurt.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 11 April 2019 14:17 (five years ago) link

in the very least she should continue to be herself i don't want her second guessing what she says based on making these racists uncomfortable with a muslim american woman speaking on her perspective regarding these issues. I want to hear her voice whether i decide to agree with here or not. xp

(•̪●) (carne asada), Thursday, 11 April 2019 14:20 (five years ago) link

right, it's not that people on the left should just always be slash-and-burn with the way they talk and stop giving a fuck about how their words are received, but they should absolutely not give a fuck when the pushback is coming almost exclusively from people who are so clearly giving them a bad-faith reading.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Thursday, 11 April 2019 14:48 (five years ago) link

I see what you're saying but lets face it, this is the first Muslim Congresswoman, they'd treat her this way even if she was mute

frogbs, Thursday, 11 April 2019 14:57 (five years ago) link

xpost Which AOC is a master of responding to, and Omar ... not yet.

I don't know, I hate Trump, he enrages me, and rare is the day I don't wish he would just shut up. He def. doesn't give a fuck about critics, but I wish he did.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 11 April 2019 14:59 (five years ago) link

I honestly think the only way out of this is gonna be government intervention, force Spotify/Apple Music/whatever to share more of their revenue and issue grants the way Canada (??) does

probably not gonna happen though I guess if you get Kid Rock and the Nuge behind it it'll have a shot

frogbs, Thursday, 11 April 2019 15:03 (five years ago) link

Take it to the politics thread.
