Listening again, that Arthur Russell song is excellent! It sounds like Jeff Mangum mixed with Charlie Looker.

karl, a small question. don't you like brandy numbers? where is no. 111?
two-way tie for 112!
― Karl Malone, Friday, 5 April 2019 20:48 (five years ago) link
that was a two-way tie for 111 if we're being super-duper pedantic
very very nearly made 'olson' my BOC choice but in the end opted for not having a BOC choice sorry. it is excellent tho
― PPL+AI=NS (imago), Friday, 5 April 2019 20:49 (five years ago) link
oh wait no
111 is missing. idk
― PPL+AI=NS (imago), Friday, 5 April 2019 20:50 (five years ago) link
i blame myself for trying to figure that out at an hour when crazy murders happen and ghosts appear
― Karl Malone, Friday, 5 April 2019 20:50 (five years ago) link
i did it like this:
110 The Beach Boys - Caroline, No (a cappella, Pet Sounds, Disc 3) (1:54)112 The Sea Nymphs - On the Dry Land (1:46)112 Minor Threat - Straight Edge (0:46)113 The Clash - Koka Kola (1:48)114 Beck - Hollow Log (1:54)115 Arthur Russell - Eli (1:56)

your heroic efforts to write the clash out of history have been recognised and you are in consideration for an imago award (an Imagar)

― Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Friday, 5 April 2019 20:52 (five years ago) link
that is still a tie for 111 though lol. if it was the top two you wouldn't say a tie for second!
― PPL+AI=NS (imago), Friday, 5 April 2019 20:53 (five years ago) link
so where are the clash then?

sorry everyone - this is actually a very busy day at work for me but i'm doing my best

we'll still say though haha

poor karl malone, lol
mistakes were made, mistakes will continue to be made. but if we all lower our expectations enough, i think we'll make it. just barely
― Karl Malone, Friday, 5 April 2019 20:57 (five years ago) link
olson is a great, vague, dreamy tune, in the end i went for another boc track but i could as well have chosen olson.

koka kola is a good song, but bottom five on london calling. would've felt weird to vote for it in lieu of the other better clash songs on the noms list

great, cool liz phair song there which did not make it on my list in the end.

"Koka Kola" and "Glory" are good and all but this feels like the right zone for them placement-wise
― Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Friday, 5 April 2019 21:07 (five years ago) link
it's tough to say. on one hand you have making a bunch of images and honing in on a certain style, efficiency through sheer repetition.
on the other, you have making images at the last minute for the 4th night in a row, drinking, and rushing. it's a wash!

I ended up not giving any artist more than one slot except for, I believe, Erykah Badu. That song was one of my toughest exclusions.

Yay Elastica! I long-listed "Vaseline" but cut it in favor of the other one which I hope shows up (though the low number of repeat artists makes the prospect somewhat remote).

my favourite sub 2 minute Elastica song is All-Nighter which wasn't nominated (not even by me) unfortunately

Omg I was all like ill post from my phone! I'll check in! Then I didn't and several of my votes/almost votes (can't current remember what I 51'd) place! Glory, Olson made it, straight edge either placed 50 or just got 51d in the end on my ballot. Flute loop made my top 100 IIRC. This a fun rollout!! Oh yeah "too low" or something. God posting on ilx on a phone feels weird

I maybe should have voted for "Stay"...almost my whole ballot was drawn from my own nominations; I must have have missed that on the big list. Not sure if I would have voted for it, but glad it placed. Nice images!

w00t, it's happening!A quick skim-through suggests I voted for just Randy Newman from this lot. Glad he scraped in, as a serial offender, concision-wise.Several of these of tracks are not familiar by title. *commences remedial study*

it wasn't a difficult bar to clear, but based off of very limited internet searching i feel that this is already greatest ever list of songs under 2 minutes. but that's only because the few other lists i saw were terrible and written for content farms
