I'll wait for clarification ("cut" vs. "phased out," etc.) before saying much--obviously, you'd want someone teaching math to be able to pass a grade 6-level math test--but I had to laugh when the Education Minister was asked if she'd be willing to take the same test herself, and instead of a simple "Sure, no problem," she actually prevaricated and deflected.

I more or less despise Ford as much as he despises teachers.

If I were a person of principle I'd m*rd*r him tbh. This is a disaster.

I'll admit to some selfishness here: even though I retire in June, I'm hoping to supply for a year, and I'm starting to think enough job cuts will move enough teachers back into the supply pool that that won't happen.

He's very busy today.

How many times did he promise--sincerely, adamantly, heart-and-soulfully--that increased class sizes wouldn't mean a single job lost? Pretty much every day, and as recently as three or four weeks ago. My board let 193 high school teachers go today; I don't know how many elementary were declared excess, but my own school lost one for sure, a really good grade 8 teacher who used to play minor league hockey alongside Tavares and P.K. Subban.

This is what happens when you've got a spoiled, vindictive rich fuck/Bluto Blutarsky/former drug-dealer in charge who was too stupid to last a third month in college.

Picked up an inter-branch loan today; North Toronto seems to have a stranglehold on the most interesting DVDs, so I had Eight Hours Don't Make a Day shipped to my branch. I guess it's only city to city that's affected (something I did use once).

don't often get physically angry over sentences on the internet that aren't even about my country but

I don't think "interlibrary loans" refers to inter-branch loans. But yeah, this is all infuriating.

Do people think Ford needs his own thread or should we keep it to Canadian Politics? I'm with two threads if people see a reason for it.

I only bumped this one cause it was the only one I could reach on the Android app at the time, but I don't mind having a place specifically for anti-Ford venting

four months pass...

The whole sex ed curriculum thing is hilarious. And expensive.

Do parents have any idea that at least half the teachers who handle health--at least anyone up to grade 6--cover the "Human Development and Sexual Health" component of the curriculum in one or two lessons? All this fighting is over approximately 80 minutes of class time.

one month passes...

School support staff strike averted. Surprised--I thought they'd take the political hit (what difference does it make if your approval rating is 35% or 25%?) and go for the savings.
