I was saying mueller did not clear trump of obstruction of justice—by barr’s admission—but the trump people are acting like he did.

don't forget every major news network and paper

Risk for Dems here is that the public narrative has already been formed and they look like sore losers in keeping the story going. https://t.co/W2HVGIRcWM

lol but guess there's no risk for the Repubs of looking like lying bootlickers jfc

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 4 April 2019 16:50 (five years ago) link

I still don't get the logic behind Mueller publicly disputing the Barr memo if it was wrong.

Dude knows he will be asked to testify and if he's going to speak up, that's when he'd do it. His team is already doing it.

They seem to be merely saying the severity of the report was downplayed w/r/t obstruction and I'm all for seeing what it really said.

Buttigieg comes right from the source (Neanderthal), Thursday, 4 April 2019 16:51 (five years ago) link

Xpost it's the whole "yea but the Republicans are supposed to be bad people, but Democrats like to brag about how woke and moral they are so this is a major scandal for them!" Bullshit

Buttigieg comes right from the source (Neanderthal), Thursday, 4 April 2019 16:53 (five years ago) link

Dems maybe should take a page from the GOP and stop thinking about risk at all

I don't know anything about Mueller's past life as FBI Director but is there anything to suggest he's not just an institutions-humping Boy Scout like Comey?

In which case he’d hate trump, a porn star humping vulgarian who rode a populist wave denouncing the “deep state”

Trϵϵship, Thursday, 4 April 2019 17:10 (five years ago) link

Risk for Dems here is that the public narrative has already been formed and they look like sore losers in keeping the story going.

additional risk for dems is that if they wait 2 years for the mueller report to come out, while the president obstructs justice in plain view literally MILLIONS OF TIMES, and then appoints an attorney general who is only there because he wrote a memo saying that the president can't obstruct justice, and then does everything he can to delay the mueller report and mitigate the damage, and then Democrats decide to let the whole thing go because they're afraid that Fox News will call them whiners and a bunch of dipshits on the left don't want to talk about the report anymore because they're mad at other people on the left, then that is the dumbest and most cowardly thing in the entire world and the risk factor is therefore 10/10

like how fucking dumb would it be to have a 2 yr investigation, all along waiting on the lead investigator's final report on it, and then when it's done just allow a Trump stooge to "summarize" it, "nothing to see here, folks", and then move on because of "optics" or some bullshit

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 4 April 2019 17:41 (five years ago) link

lol I googled kitty kat bbc to find that tweet

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 4 April 2019 17:41 (five years ago) link

I don't remember anyone saying stuff like that when Rs re-investigated BENGHAZI over and over because they refused to accept that Hilary wasn't culpable. And this isn't even a 2nd investigation...just y'know, release the actual report from the initial investigation!

False. Our president doesn’t play games.

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Thursday said he plans to give Mexico a “one-year warning” before closing the southern border, retreating on a threat he made last week that he would close the border this week if Mexico didn’t halt all illegal immigration.
“The only thing, frankly, better and less drastic than closing the border is tariff the cars coming in, and I will do it,” Mr. Trump said, speaking to reporters after a meeting with the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council. “I don’t play games.”

at the risk of sounding a bit racist, I've completely mixed up all the dumb ass things Herman Cain has done and said with all the dumb ass things Ben Carson has done and said.

It never fails to amaze me just how many GOP'ers who'd otherwise been laughed out of the party Two-Scoops has welcomed back with open arms.

a large tuna called “Justice” (C. Grisso/McCain), Thursday, 4 April 2019 19:17 (five years ago) link

in fairness, it's not Trump's fault that Steve King wasn't been laughed out of the party a long long time ago.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Thursday, 4 April 2019 19:18 (five years ago) link

I think you could veer on the side of safety by asserting, correctly, that many republicans are profoundly ignorant and make public statements like they have some sort of traumatic brain injury.

Cain is really into the number 7, btw.

Tom Delay's waiting by the phone Donnie!

a large tuna called “Justice” (C. Grisso/McCain), Thursday, 4 April 2019 19:21 (five years ago) link

I hate this take so much. Is there really even a single voter out there thinking "man, I think Trump is alright, but if he colluded, I'm out"?? Takes like this seem to forget that Trump is also embroiled in a dozen other scandals, he was just implicated in a felony a couple weeks ago, he's acted extremely guilty the whole time and nearly everything he does turns out to be fraudulent. If he's innocent, so what. There's so much else. And vice-versa, if he's guilty, so what, just one more piece of shit for the right to swallow. Are we really acting like Trump wouldn't accept a quid-pro-quo if he was offered one, or wouldn't try to set one up himself if his brains weren't constantly trying to escape through his ears?

Secondly (as mentioned here), the Republicans literally won a presidential election thanks to years of BENGHAZI! and EMAILS! and, by the way, I don't seem to remember the fawning NYT headline "HILLARY CLINTON EXONERATED OF ALL EMAIL CRIMES". And of course this is nothing like either of those, how braindead do you have to be to just accept a 4-page summary of a 300-page report written quickly by Trump's hand-picked stooge and think, "wow, that's enough for me!!", as though Trump didn't clearly admit to obstruction of justice on live television (and then 100 more times on Twitter), as though Trump's son didn't *literally* leak an email where he tried to set up a quid pro quo but was too stupid to actually pull it off. Did the Barr thing swing the polls at *all*???

frogbs, Thursday, 4 April 2019 21:27 (five years ago) link

mueller has proven that he surrounded himself with criminals. his lawyer was a criminal. his campaign manager. etc. this isn't hard

Lil' Brexit (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 4 April 2019 21:49 (five years ago) link

I never understood why mueller hired a campaign manager, but I was especially shocked when he proved that he was a criminal. But hey he’s probably playing the long game

Karl Malone, Thursday, 4 April 2019 22:32 (five years ago) link

i can see now that my subconscious avoidance of using trump's name has its downsides in the ol' comprehensibility department

I heard a very core bland resistance-style discussion on kushner, so hmm i doubt uncited sourcing, but i dunno he seems v v v bad not good.

Who has done reliable work on kushner, sauds, qatar and netanyahu? because the allegations were super involved, and seemed way unlikely given what i take for trust levels in that ME space. like actual trump shit, it seems impossible to get away with.

Hunt3r, Friday, 5 April 2019 22:43 (five years ago) link

Enjoyed teh Trumpcast on Kushner taht I listened to this afternoon. Came out over the last couple of days i think.
ties in with the book Kushner inc which i'll probably now discover means it isn't worth it .
But interview sounded good at the time. & Kushner sounds like a total scumbag who should have never been allowed anywhere near the Whitehouse. & Ivanka sonds like they're a finely matched couple.

Stevolende, Friday, 5 April 2019 22:47 (five years ago) link

Kushner should fall face first into a woodchipper on national TV.
