Interestingly there's been little to no bump in Trump's polls since the Barr summary was released.

Probably cos the cake is baked for most voters in that regard

I remember going to the Verizon Center for a Rangers-Caps playoff game a few years ago and very demonstrably cheering for the Rangers and nobody even give me side-eye about it, was kind of pathetic.

So there's a conspiracy theory that there's no conspiracy to supress the Mueller report. So why not let the people it was written to see have a look at the thing.
It's about halved in length from what was first related about actual length hasn't it. Nagler was told less than 1000 pages on his first enquiry. Now heating 400.

Stevolende, Thursday, 4 April 2019 07:08 (five years ago) link

Now hearing.
Surprised one would round 400 up to 1000 if one was trying to diminish the report's importance.

I can understand having some redactions to the Mueller report. Signals intelligence provided some evidence, which provides adversaries clues to NSA capabilities.

But I see no reason for Justice to do the redactions. Have the NSA do a standard FOIA blackmark job.

Trϵϵship, Thursday, 4 April 2019 14:40 (five years ago) link

is it just me or did the Republicans go from unanimous support for releasing the whole report to being dead set against it in the span of like, a week

frogbs, Thursday, 4 April 2019 14:40 (five years ago) link

I read a theory that mueller makes a case for obstruction addressed to Congress in the report. Barr misrepresented it by saying mueller left the determination to *him*. Obviously, in a literal sense it was up to the AG whether to prosecute, but mueller would not have recommended indicting a sittig president anyway. He laid out both sides of the case for congress to make a determination about impeachment.

Trϵϵship, Thursday, 4 April 2019 14:43 (five years ago) link

Then why wouldn't Mueller correct the Barr driven narrative?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 4 April 2019 14:44 (five years ago) link

The entire Mueller team, if not Mueller himself, is now free to say whatever they want to whoever they want on the record, right? Classified stuff excepted?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 4 April 2019 14:45 (five years ago) link

Didn’t some people from the special counsel’s office just talk to the new york times saying the barr report was misleading?

Barr mentions there is a part of the report that lays out both sides of the case to prosecute obstruction. He just says that part was for him rather than congress to review. Which doesn’t really make sense. Impeachment is a congressional process and that is how “high crimes and misdemeanors” of presidents are adjudicated.

Trϵϵship, Thursday, 4 April 2019 14:48 (five years ago) link

Even in the barr report it says there is a case against trump thats presented—and that theoretically could be prosecuted—just that mueller isn’t recommending it. Seems weird

Trϵϵship, Thursday, 4 April 2019 14:49 (five years ago) link

Mueller's silence speaks volumes but liberals really really don't wanna hear it, man some of y'all are really grasping at straws here

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Thursday, 4 April 2019 14:51 (five years ago) link

Which is why Congress will get it/see it.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 4 April 2019 14:51 (five years ago) link

Unless Barr decides to redact everything that could impugn a oerson who isn’t going to be prosecuted....

There is no Barr Report! It's a letter.

recriminations from the nitpicking woke (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 4 April 2019 14:53 (five years ago) link

The mueller team said they have created summaries that redact all national security things—but barr wasn’t satisifed with just redacting that

Trϵϵship, Thursday, 4 April 2019 14:53 (five years ago) link

no offense, but this is the trap into which the media fell early last week (and, to my surprise, have mostly crawled out of).

recriminations from the nitpicking woke (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 4 April 2019 14:54 (five years ago) link

The question I keep asking myself is: why hasn't Mueller arrested Trump yet and locked him in the makeshift jail cell he built in his back yard? Why waste all that time learning how to use an oxyacetylene torch if you're never even going to make a caged ape of the standing president?

as Alfred has repeatedly noted, the remedy is political not legal

these are not mutually exclusive, though! Exposing the administration's transgressions by legal avenues can have huge political impact.

good point and I agree, just tired of people acting like there's some hidden smoking gun in there

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Thursday, 4 April 2019 15:46 (five years ago) link

I wasn’t saying that. I was saying mueller did not clear trump of obstruction of justice—by barr’s admission—but the trump people are acting like he did. So it would be good for congress at least to see what it actually says.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 4 April 2019 16:50 (five years ago) link

I still don't get the logic behind Mueller publicly disputing the Barr memo if it was wrong.

Dude knows he will be asked to testify and if he's going to speak up, that's when he'd do it. His team is already doing it.

They seem to be merely saying the severity of the report was downplayed w/r/t obstruction and I'm all for seeing what it really said.
