TYSM, VegemiteGrrrl. ❤️

In the second photo I was still growing out an ill-advised Dorothy Hamill haircut/'do; no one with hair as thick as mine used to be had any business with such a haircut. Two words as to why: "mushroom cloud".

This is me aged ten. At my grandparents place. Look at those plastic sandals. And argh wearing socks as well. Jfc. The pink boiler suit was expensive and I was mad proud wearing it. Lol

Deee you are such a cutie!

Coming from a beauty such as yourself, that's high praise.

Ok, reaction time now that I've had enough time to peruse the entire thread:
1. I'm relieved not every one of you came across as looking Too Cool for School, because there's never been a point in my life when I've looked anywhere near "cool". So thanks a ton to those of you who posted adorable (or adorably awkward) photos of yourself!
2. It's kinda distressing how much my very first IRL crush resembled a perfect a 50%/50% mixture of young Ned and jel. Bus Pass Jel especially.
3. Michaels White and Jones were STONE COLD HOTTT OMG.
4. IDK if tera's still around these parts, but I love that with her I found someone whose childhood I could instantly find a kinship. My Catholic grade school uniforms looked a LOT like the ones shown in the group photo and Val Verde and Bexar counties aren't that far apart from each other; also, I too grew up surrounded by a significant majority of my fellow Chicanx people!
5. VG, your childhood photos were so precious, and the photo with you and your fiancée is seriously Relationship Goals.
6. I wish I could've seen a lot of the photos that now show up as broken image links. Ah well.
7. Onimo, that haircut in the most recent photo you've posted suited you perfectly.

One more photo of me, this time at my National Honor Society induction ceremony toward the end of my sophomore year of high school, i.e. in the first year of eligibility (according to our school charter's rules). I was delirious with happiness at the time and it shows in the photo, because this had been my main goal since the very first day of high school. My parents, on the other hand.... (It's also crazy to note that out of the three people in the photo, I'm the only one who's still alive.)

(BTW, notice how much my dad resembled a Native American Elvis Presley.)

A friend e-mailed this today: high-school basketball team, 1978.

Pete Maravich was my favourite player; you can take it from there. I wish I could say "bad hair day"--I can't. The school finally dropped the Rebels moniker two or three years ago (not that any of us gave it a second thought in 1978).

Then me in 1990 at the age of 16 trying to look rebellious with a cigarette and a can of carling black label, it still me on ilx now but with a more rapidly retreating hairline and stronger booze and much closer to the scrapheap of life (lol).

My father passed away last week at the age of 67. He had been sick for years; we knew this was coming, but I'm still not sure I have completely processed it. Probably won't for a long time. He was a university track and field coach of considerable renown within the world of Canadian university athletics; an athlete he coached competed in the 2016 Olympics in Rio (she came in fourth in her race) and he got a shout-out by the announcer on NBC during the introduction of the athletes, something I still cannot quite believe happened. 2020, man.

This is us probably around 1980 or '81. Friends and former athletes of his that I hadn't seen in years (or in some cases may never have met) could not stop remarking, at his funeral, how much I look like him, and that was with a mask covering half of my face. They also could not stop telling me that he was the kindest, most encouraging, and generous-spirited person they had ever known, something that I can confirm on my end as well. I will miss him every day of my life.

Not me, but a newspaper ad for the opening night of the local movie theatre where I worked as an usher my last year of high school. March 2, 1979--almost positive I would have been either working or at least there that night.

My sister finally found the VHS of family photos my dad had (with good intentions but a little shortsightedly) transferred from old slides. Unfortunately, the one photo I really, really wanted to unearth--me before Neil Young's 1978 show at Maple Leaf Gardens--is not on there.
