Her stuff makes me feel less old than the teenybopper hits of yore. If anything, angst seemed to have gone out of fashion for a while, which I found distressing.

Pop musicians have got so fucking lazy that I'm getting immediately fatigued by the sameyness - and this is aaaaabsolutely no exception. Someone really needs to give things a kick up the arse - although critics accepting any old shit is hardly helping things.

Thankfully, if I feel this way then I sure as hell know others do. Can't wait for the inevitable backlash where people get bored and decide to step up their game.

FTR, though, it had nothing to do with suppressing dissent or wanting to see only stan posts — much less anything to do with this record, which as I said I haven’t even heard all the way through (I listened to a few tracks and decided it wasn’t even enough “for me” to have/express an opinion on).

IMO, pop is no different from hip-hop, metal, etc. — if your stated opinion is “it all sucks nowadays,” and yet you feel the need to pipe up and proclaim that you also think individual examples of it also suck (without even explaining why), you’re going to draw some heat. But I know I’m not the board police, so sorry again.

you still don't get it -- you were not trolled, you encountered someone whose opinion about a piece and/or genre of music differed from yours.

(it's particularly weird with regard to an album like this, where it's not hard to see why it might be polarizing for some people -- it isn't engineered for maximum likability, it is gen z as fuck without leaning into "omg so precociously beyond her years!" in the music itself, it is clearly influenced by genres a lot of people really, really hate, like soundcloud rap)

I must be thick, to me it just sounds like a well engineered dark pop record with a sense of humour.
