Hah I just realised "Sun Baked Snow Cave" isn't in the poll either. Do you hate Merzbow? ;)

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 19 October 2007 03:07 (sixteen years ago) link

or the split 2xlp with Doomriders!

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 19 October 2007 03:08 (sixteen years ago) link

I didn't know both their surnames were Album, Geir.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Sun-baked Snow Cave is pretty cool, actually. I don't listen to it often, but when I'm in the mood it works.

Mark Clemente, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:12 (sixteen years ago) link

It's the best of the with Merzbow releases.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Are we going to have a shock winner? Will justice be done and Heavy Rocks and Akuma No Uta beat Pink? Or is it a landslide for Pink?

I predict Soundtrack from Film “Mabuta no Ura” will get 0 votes.
Solomon Volume 1 deserves a vote. That's one I don't own as I dont have $100+ to spend on one lp. 2/3 were quite good too actually.

how was the show?
i went to see Caribou next door, then caught Boris for like 4 songs (door guy let me in for free!) - they are much more "epic" live than i imagined, all the smoke everywhere, and the posturing; it was almost like they were on stage playing Guitar Hero to a Boris record

(not my thing i guess)

stephen, Saturday, 20 October 2007 14:41 (sixteen years ago) link

akuma no uta not winning is bullshit

latebloomer, Saturday, 20 October 2007 16:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I saw them in Bristol back in July. It was excellent and, yes, pretty epic and stagey, even in the small, oddly shaped bar they were playing. Drummer stage diving off the stack into the crowd during the final feedback squall was a particular highlight.

caek, Saturday, 20 October 2007 16:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Glasgow was the only gig of the tour where Atsuo didn't stage dive! We did get a thank you from Wata though. The last track they played, Flood, really is the best 40 mins of a concert ever though.

Hari saw Boris play england the year before (no scottish date) and I have friends who travelled to leeds a few years back when they played Feedbacker.

four months pass...

i missed this thread the first time, and may not have voted anyway since i've only heard three of the records.

but between 'pink' and 'heavy rocks', both of which i own, 'heavy rocks' seems to stand out as the superior release. in fact, it sort of feels like all the boris i need. i much prefer the slower grooving stuff to the faster material though.

Damn right. But you do need the early sludgy stuff too.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 14 March 2008 02:04 (sixteen years ago) link

i like the sound of 'sludgy'. so i guess absolutego should be the next port of call

it was a great show! favorite i saw last year.

Get Absolutego,Flood, Amplifier Worship and Akuma No Uta. Then move onto Feedbacker and Dronevil.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 14 March 2008 04:38 (sixteen years ago) link

saw Boris at ATP festival in december, abiding memory is of one tune sounding like a very slow version of 'The Final Countdown' by Europe.

cheers herman

Charlie Howard, Friday, 14 March 2008 19:18 (sixteen years ago) link

The Solomon lps are awesome but sadly expensive(i dont even have the 1st).
Archive cds are terrific but might cost you $200 so just download them when you get Solomon 1 2 and 3. There's 2 versions of Vein so d/l them too unless you can get them cheap.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 14 March 2008 19:51 (sixteen years ago) link

I hate their single-track CDs (Absolutego, Flood). The new one is really good - I have both the U.S. and Japanese versions, and they really are totally different albums. I also like Pink and Heavy Rocks, and Amplifier Worship is pretty good. Still haven't heard Akumo No Uta or the Haino collaboration.

unperson, Friday, 14 March 2008 19:56 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't get why people put Akuma on such a pedestal. I think Akuma & Pink do similar things, and I think Pink does them better.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 14 March 2008 20:20 (sixteen years ago) link

one year passes...

There might be another day within the next decade that I feel like hearing Absolutego again. But I finally heard Heavy Rocks, holy crap! Great stuff, I never even knew about that album. It's not even listed on AMG. If you look under singles, it lists Japanese Heavy Rock Hits, Vol. 1 to be released on Southern Lord on 9/29. Is it the same thing? There's nothing about it on the Southern Lord site, and nothing else comes up about the album on google.

Fastnbulbous, Thursday, 27 August 2009 20:07 (fourteen years ago) link

Still no info on possibly Heavy Rocks reissue. Not one Amazon seller has it. Someone in Spain is selling it on Gemm for $165. Ridiculous.

If Feedbacker is my favorite and Akuma drives me nuts, what do I need next? Flood? I have and like Dronevil too...

I'm glad to see folks checking out Heavy Rocks and realising it pisses all over the pitchfork approved Pink and Smile albums.

Picked up the 1st "Heavy Rock Hits" 45 the other day. Doesn't sound a damn thing like Heavy Rocks. Sounds like the band actually playing the kind of fucked up heavy pop that Kurihara producerized em into on the Japanese version of Smile. Good but not great.

That's not just me saying that, that's the Pentagon. (contenderizer), Thursday, 8 October 2009 05:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Ishihara. You Ishihara produced Smile. Pretend I said that.

ishihara and kurihara were both in white heaven, bro, it's okay to confuse them.
