Same

but I can't let Trae do it I got Huerter on my mind (Spottie), Monday, 25 March 2019 03:34 (five years ago) link

also same. I'm working through the playlist, last day I can listen to it is Thursday so I will do the ballot then

Colonel Poo, Monday, 25 March 2019 11:57 (five years ago) link

I skipped maybe a quarter of the playlist (p much all the fast punky stuff ha) but down to the last 200 or so.

nashwan, Monday, 25 March 2019 13:16 (five years ago) link

i have got almost 600 to go, this poll is tough work...

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Monday, 25 March 2019 13:58 (five years ago) link

Only voted for stuff I already knew and liked, which was still a good 100-120 tracks. Going to use the playlist as a future resource,

Dan Worsley, Monday, 25 March 2019 16:42 (five years ago) link

lol Leee must be cashing in all his chips

Nice little poll you got here, shame if something were to... HAPPEN.. to it.

Last weekend I was doing something even nerdier than voting in an online music poll, so I'm aiming to finish my ballot by this weekend.

LEOPLOD BLOOMPS (Leee), Monday, 25 March 2019 19:09 (five years ago) link

KM: If I wanted to correct something on the ballot I've submitted, how would I do that? If its not do-able, no problem...

Timothée Charalambides (cryptosicko), Monday, 25 March 2019 19:46 (five years ago) link

someone else emailed me about that this morning! i just changed a setting on the Google Form so that submitters can Edit their ballots after voting (previously this setting was turned off, by default). can you try to access your ballot really quick and see if it lets you make a change?

Karl Malone, Monday, 25 March 2019 19:56 (five years ago) link

Voted!

And was able to edit and re-submit (although didn't change anything second time around).

Jeff W, Monday, 25 March 2019 20:26 (five years ago) link

I don't see where I can edit. I enter my username, select my ranking preference, and it just takes me to a blank form for the rankings.

Timothée Charalambides (cryptosicko), Monday, 25 March 2019 20:28 (five years ago) link

i was the one who emailed you! i also dunno how to access my old ballot to edit it... maybe i am missing something?

they're not booing you, sir, they're shouting "Boo'd Up" (Will M.), Monday, 25 March 2019 20:46 (five years ago) link

The edit function is on the success page with the 'Now quit your job' message.

I guess if you've closed the window for Google forms since then and got on with yr life/quit yr job, it makes sense that you can't get back to that page without starting over? Otherwise anyone could edit my ballot just knowing my ILX username. (Erm, please don't do that.)

Jeff W, Monday, 25 March 2019 21:11 (five years ago) link

OK, I tried that and I can't access my original ballot? I can just resubmit my corrected one, but I don't want to do that until I get the go-ahead from the poll runners.

Timothée Charalambides (cryptosicko), Monday, 25 March 2019 21:17 (five years ago) link

Sorry about my delay! I’ve been in a work nightmare.

Go ahead and submit a revised vote if you don’t mind! Shouldn’t be a big deal on my end

Karl Malone, Monday, 25 March 2019 22:36 (five years ago) link

And Will M, same for you, if that works!

Karl Malone, Monday, 25 March 2019 22:37 (five years ago) link

comrades! listen to this joyous rendition of sailing the seas depends on the helmsman by cornelius cardew! you don't have to believe in the virtues of a centrally-planned economy to enjoy such a beautiful bit of piano playing

ogmor, Monday, 25 March 2019 23:11 (five years ago) link

I would also like to draw your attention to the version of santiago de murcia's zarambeques o muecas by la fontegara, a sumptuous & airy piece of pre-flamenco courtly spanish guitar music that must be one of the older pieces of music of western music showing a strong african influence

ogmor, Monday, 25 March 2019 23:27 (five years ago) link

OK, I've submitted my corrected ballot. Thanks for bearing with me.

Timothée Charalambides (cryptosicko), Tuesday, 26 March 2019 00:43 (five years ago) link

also feel it wld be remiss not to mention this gorgeous track sung by some young kipsigis girls in rural kenya in the 50s who didn't understand that they were being recorded. it's such a treat and has an incredible backstory which kind of melted my brain when I learnt it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2AC8pnFpbw

the song is about this half-man half-beast character called chemirocha & dancing and leaping until your clothes fall down, but the kicker is that chemirocha = jimmie rodgers as in, t for texas jimmie rodgers, the fkn yodelling cowboy.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jimmie_rodgers.jpg

some of his recordings had circulated in previous years and made enough of a splash that chemirocha started to be used as a more general name for a singer. this was one of three chemirocha songs that was recorded, although the other two aren't nearly so special. some ppl made a documentary tracking down some of the original performers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gi8xeDrsQTs

ogmor, Tuesday, 26 March 2019 00:48 (five years ago) link

absolutely gonna vote for Chemirocha, thanks so much for that. I've definitely heard it before on some compilation, maybe something on the Mississippi label?

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Tuesday, 26 March 2019 02:43 (five years ago) link

i'll re-vote tmrw when im back at my work pc, thanks KM!

but I can't let Trae do it I got Huerter on my mind (Spottie), Tuesday, 26 March 2019 03:12 (five years ago) link

Sorry to be a pain Karl but I've realised I'd like to make one change to the sub-30secs section of my ballot - am I better off re-submitting my whole ballot or can I just re-do that bit?

Gavin, Leeds, Tuesday, 26 March 2019 10:22 (five years ago) link

chemirocha is a definite all-time favorite; all that hugh tracey stuff is gold

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 26 March 2019 16:04 (five years ago) link

Gavin, no problem! You can just submit another ballot with nothing on it except the correction. And maybe a quick handy note explaining what to change, in case I forget the details next week as I’m sorting through all this :)

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 26 March 2019 16:43 (five years ago) link

Thanks, will do!

Gavin, Leeds, Tuesday, 26 March 2019 17:47 (five years ago) link

re-submitted! for all of the pages after the main list of 50 songs I just said "please see previous ballot" hope that's ok

they're not booing you, sir, they're shouting "Boo'd Up" (Will M.), Tuesday, 26 March 2019 17:59 (five years ago) link

Yep, that’s be fine!

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 26 March 2019 19:49 (five years ago) link

All ballots must by law now include “Click Click”, would be a fitting #1. RIP RR

Jeff W, Tuesday, 26 March 2019 21:08 (five years ago) link

I VOTED

Trompe Le Monde has just been removed from Spotify ffs, the title-track was one of my best discoveries in this

it's back now.

I'm not even half way through the playlist, don't think there's any way I can finish it by tomorrow. oh well. I will get a ballot done tomorrow though.

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 27 March 2019 09:51 (five years ago) link

I only got through about 100 songs on the playlist before I threw in the towel but found some songs for my ballot. "The Letter" is one of those songs I must have heard and enjoyed >10 times in my life but never knew the name of - thanks to whoever nommed!

Vinnie, Wednesday, 27 March 2019 10:02 (five years ago) link

did a little vote

thanks for all your hard work on this KM

Decided to go with music I was already familiar with. First pass = 133 tracks.

woo! some stuff i like might have an outside chance!

PPL+AI=NS (imago), Thursday, 28 March 2019 13:04 (five years ago) link

I was glad to discover that ditty myself. Thanks for the Youtube list, btw. A goodly chunk of my shortlist was over there.

Not least this 1981 obscurity I nominated. (Blessed with a very nifty found-footage fan video.)

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 28 March 2019 22:12 (five years ago) link

looks like we're up to 30 ballots!

which is great, but hey lurkers out there or people who don't normally vote in these things - you should vote in this thing! doesn't have to be a full ballot, it can just be 20 of your faves.

even with 30 ballots, i'm a little concerned that since there are so many nominations, there will be a very wide, shallow pool of votes, with lots of ties and songs that only get 2 votes placing high, or whatever. the more ballots we get, the less of a problem that'll be.

Karl Malone, Friday, 29 March 2019 00:00 (five years ago) link

i should vote in this. it's just hard for me to muster up the enthusiasm for random songs as opposed to a genre or single artist.

Bee OK, Friday, 29 March 2019 00:52 (five years ago) link

...i mean you could post a ballot that's entirely made up of guided by voices

but then there would fisticuffs
