pretty rad that the first two picks in the nba have cool hoop names

but I can't let Trae do it I got Huerter on my mind (Spottie), Thursday, 21 March 2019 23:12 (five years ago) link

rj barrett is more of a baseball name

Neus Anneus (voodoo chili), Friday, 22 March 2019 01:48 (five years ago) link

Def. cam reddish is a cool hoop name too

but I can't let Trae do it I got Huerter on my mind (Spottie), Friday, 22 March 2019 01:54 (five years ago) link

i have seen a lot of bad basketball today

mookieproof, Friday, 22 March 2019 02:32 (five years ago) link

if your yardstick is NBA play, of course a bunch of college kids who've already been picked over by the NBA and most of the best talent drafted, won't look very good by comparison. compare them to state champion high school teams and they look pretty good. the cool thing about the NCAA tournament is not the level of play, but the level of effort.

A is for (Aimless), Friday, 22 March 2019 02:39 (five years ago) link

pales beside your level of effort to endlessly state the obvious

mookieproof, Friday, 22 March 2019 02:54 (five years ago) link

well, just calling it "bad" basketball is pretty content-free. by your lights I guess 99.9% of all the basketball games played around the world are "bad" basketball. which would make your statement, if anything, more obvious than mine. it's "bad" basketball all the way down.

A is for (Aimless), Friday, 22 March 2019 04:07 (five years ago) link

P boring opening day not much madness

but I can't let Trae do it I got Huerter on my mind (Spottie), Friday, 22 March 2019 04:14 (five years ago) link

fletcher magee would be dece in the nba right?

Jeff Bathos (symsymsym), Friday, 22 March 2019 04:14 (five years ago) link

ja went off tho, maybe dont rank a team w a guy who cld be getting nba minutes rn 12 idk

lag∞n, Friday, 22 March 2019 05:51 (five years ago) link

xp dude i don't need you to explain college basketball to me. you are not quite as tiresome as reggie miller but it's close, and he doesn't make baseless assumptions about my 'yardstick' or 'lights'

the bad things were missed dunks and absurd shot selection and out-of-control driving and failure to block out and fouls 40 feet from the basket and tom izzo being psychotic. ja was good, though. and tbh i saw some pretty solid defense

mookieproof, Friday, 22 March 2019 08:01 (five years ago) link

college hoops is always going to be significantly inferior as long as the 3 point line is shorter and the lane narrower than the NBA. the pace-and-space era of the NBA is only making this discrepancy more glaring. half-court offense in college is so clogged and frustrating to watch most of the time.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Friday, 22 March 2019 13:33 (five years ago) link

We all miss rick

say it with sausages (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 22 March 2019 14:12 (five years ago) link

also college players just arent as good at basketball

lag∞n, Friday, 22 March 2019 14:13 (five years ago) link

but they are better at running a full court press for an entire game.

say it with sausages (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 22 March 2019 14:35 (five years ago) link

and you can still google "(coach's name) dui" during time outs and genuinely be surprised.

say it with sausages (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 22 March 2019 14:36 (five years ago) link

i love college basketball and always will, but yeah, by rule the players will be less good because they're all super young and there are so damn many of them.

i am glad that we all agree that tom izzo is lower than a piece of trash.

Neus Anneus (voodoo chili), Friday, 22 March 2019 14:36 (five years ago) link

this thread is off-limits, plz, to people who are going to watch all of these games, teams and players through the lens of comparing them to them to the NBA.

Not the biggest basketball fan (knoe very little about the game so it's hard to appreciate) but the end of a close important game of basketball is one of the most compelling things in sports

kenpom's top 14 teams are all in the sweet 16

the other two are lsu (he has them 18th) and oregon (29th)

mookieproof, Monday, 25 March 2019 18:29 (five years ago) link

U of Oregon has been on a red-hot streak for the past 9 games, after a very mediocre injury-plagued start. They are better than their W/L record suggests. They might squeak into the Elite Eight.

michigan didn't make a single jumpshot all half. not exaggerating. they were 7-12 at the rim, and 0-12 on all other shots, including 0-9 from three.

Jared Harper for Auburn
Carsen Edwards for Purdue
Mamadi Diakite for Virginia <This guy is a ballhawk on the boards, impressed by his play all tourney.
