How was it?

Also, kind of a photo variation of busy/claustrophobic:

On this date 25 years ago, “The Paper,” a Ron Howard comedy starring Michael Keaton, Glenn Close, Marisa Tomei, Randy Quaid and Robert Duvall opened in theaters. pic.twitter.com/JvYjargBkZ

I say this every time that The Paper surfaces in an ILX thread but I love that movie

From that rare subgenre of Bad News Bears knockoffs.

I dunno, this style of poster feels like the slicker 90s cousin to the busy/claustrophobic etc. I remember a lot of the Grisham movies having posters similar to this.

that one is neither busy nor does it contain caricature

blokes you can't rust (sic), Thursday, 11 April 2019 15:41 (five years ago) link

It is busy in the sense that a lot of actors faces are crammed into it. Like I said, the less fun 90s variant on what we're talking about here.

Another latter day parody of the style, this one is particularly dire:

The Pink Angels (1971). Huge, high-quality version here. Probably posted before without caption, what a piece of work. The Davis-esque artist is C. Bruce Steffenhagen, also responsible for:

I thought surely Kentucky Fried Movie would have one of these, but its poster was surprisingly tasteful.

wait...Six Pack-Annie? wtf

andrew m., Thursday, 1 August 2019 19:03 (four years ago) link

if you can stomach it, here's the opening theme song. the yt description says: "The opening scene from Sixpack Annie features a great song by Minette Allton and Melissa Wilson, performed by Tim Hayfield. The moment Annie lovably bellows "Oh... who says we're wearing any pants!" I knew I was going to like this film." to me it sounds like they sent in some lyrics to MSR to have rodd keith have a go at it. just total garbage.

it's a great list! bravo for assembling. at one point i started making a google sheet for the thread with the idea of getting very precise about the genre's peak years, but got horribly bogged down by my early, foolish notion of also transcribing the taglines.

Good one! This thread was made for movies with titles like Kiss My Grits.

I posted something about this in the Podcasts thread, but since I discovered the podcast in question here (thanks Doctor Casino!), I should mention here was really sad to learn that the 80s All Over guys were unable to see that project through to the end. A nostalgic and informative listen for 80s kids like me, and a great source for material for this thread.

I wonder how many people went to that movie and we're disappointed that it wasn't about Flo.
