summary: McCarthy was an unimaginative coach who never adapted and checked out when the team started losing, Rodgers is a diva who randomly puts people in the doghouse, the front office was obsessed with youth and let talented players walk, rookie receivers were caught between listening to Rodgers and listening to the coaching staff, everyone thinks they should have won 5 Super Bowls...sound about right?

frogbs, Friday, 5 April 2019 13:22 (five years ago) link

the old jets unis were classic--the problem was the team, coaching, and organization.

This dude is strong.

Time of year when small school guys get to show they can compete on the big stage. This is 320-pound, Western Illinois DT Khalen Saunders (@khalenNOTkaylen), who is heading to the Senior Bowl next week. Backflips at his size.... pic.twitter.com/s6QjAkA3zO

Just talked to a Redskins source who told me Dan Snyder has "taken over the first round of the draft."

The last time that happened the Redskins traded two future No. 1's and a No. 2 to move up for Robert Griffin.

"Snyder, 54, hasn’t lived up to that promise. Under his leadership, the Redskins have had four times as many head coaches (8) as playoff wins (2). Splashy free agent signings haven’t produced victories — Washington is 139-180 since Snyder bought the team — and one of the more loyal fan bases in professional sports has been gradually driven away."

More deal details: Carson Wentz’s four-year contract extension includes an NFL-record $107.9 million guaranteed, including $66 million fully guaranteed at signing, per source.

https://deadspin.com/report-kellen-winslow-ii-couldnt-stop-masturbating-in-1835493794

He could count on having an empty seat next to him on any team flight, due to his ritual of watching hardcore pornography on his portable DVD player, according to those sources. On one occasion, an equipment manager tasked with delivering gear to lockers after hours walked in on Winslow masturbating at his locker, two seats away from the entrance, according to two team officials familiar with the incident.

When pornography became widely available on mobile phones, he often watched it on his smartphone during meetings, the two former teammates said (nowadays, such sites would typically be blocked by the building WiFi). Teammates begged out of shared hotel room assignments with Winslow because he watched pornography and masturbated openly, with no regard for who was in the room, a teammate and an official said.

Later on in his career, after being sent to Tampa Bay via trade, Winslow acquired a life-sized silicone mold of a woman’s torso—complete with vagina and anus—to bring with him on road trips, according to one former assistant coach.

can anyone unpack this drew magary sentence for me?

When the team finally traded Beckham to Cleveland, it served as an ejaculatory triumph for anyone who instinctively hates it when people who are not fans of Jimmy Buffett enjoy a boat ride.

Giants fans who hate fun were glad when the Giants traded Odell Beckham

also he thinks guys from new jersey like to jerk off to the idea of pissing off parrotheads

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 30 July 2019 18:49 (four years ago) link

what does the jimmy buffett part mean then? that there are people who get angry when non-buffett fans enjoy boat rides (and why? bc they think buffett is the patron saint of boats?), where boat rides are the fun time that giants fans hate? but surely the buffett fans love the boat rides they just (if i understand the sentence correctly) just hate non-buffett fans enjoying them??

Mordy, Tuesday, 30 July 2019 18:51 (four years ago) link

it's probably a reference to the giants' pre-playoffs 2017 boat trip which became a big tabloid/sports radio thing before they got their asses beat in the first round

Antonio Brown’s helmet is the stupidest non-story since Tebowmania. GOOD GOD will this season start already?

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 19 August 2019 11:31 (four years ago) link

1. LeBron and the Lakers
2. Dallas Cowboys paying Dak (Is he 'elite'?)
3. Dallas Cowboys vs. Zeke holdout
4. Antonio Brown's helmet & mind

This is pretty much 85% of ESPNs coverage these days.

Jaylon Smith is one player I am glad got a big payday, considering he nearly lost his career with that injury with Notre Dame in the bowl game. Smith is probably the best defensive player from the state of Indiana since Rod Woodson too.

Andrew Luck retired wtf

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/27456682/emotional-luck-announces-retirement-nfl

omar little, Sunday, 25 August 2019 03:02 (four years ago) link

After the game, Luck announced the retirement decision during an impromptu news conference; he said an official announcement wasn't planned until Sunday afternoon but changed course once news broke during the preseason game.

"I've been stuck in this process," he said, stopping several times to overcome his emotions. "I haven't been able to live the life I want to live. It's taken the joy out of this game ... the only way forward for me is to remove myself from football."

omar little, Sunday, 25 August 2019 03:03 (four years ago) link

yes

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Sunday, 25 August 2019 15:10 (four years ago) link

I tend to believe that almost anyone who plays in the NFL is 100% committed to the sport so I'm guessing this really was the only option for him. Poor guy, hope he got paid and gets to pursue his other dreams now. Funny to think the NFL's 'talent drain' problem first seemed to come to light around the time when Luck & RG3 got drafted, when the word was "finally we are going to have some great young QBs again"...this is pretty much the worst possible scenario for the NFL

frogbs, Monday, 26 August 2019 15:01 (four years ago) link

there's a couple more generational prospects coming up the pipeline in the next couple years, but yeah, i guess the nfl can't really count on them to define their league for 15 years anymore.

jakey mo collier (voodoo chili), Monday, 26 August 2019 15:18 (four years ago) link

there are a lot of talented young QBs right now tho - watson, mahomes, wentz, goff, newton, cousins, jackson, mayfield, maybe winston? ok some question marks around some of those guys but a few of those could be good to all time greats depending on how their careers go.

Antonio Brown's apology tour continued Wednesday morning with an Instagram post directed at quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

The former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver posted a photo of Roethlisberger smiling and slapping the back of Brown's helmet when the two played together, along with a caption that praised Roethlisberger.

"Mostly you a little bit of me !" Brown wrote. "Yee yee !! I never realized how good I had it, got caught up in my emotion with everyone coming after me I really apologize for my actions sincerely man ! It's never been another connection like what we done in the past decade. I appreciate you. Sincerely AB."

One game with Brady and zero with Derek Carr really changed his perspective.
