This is all terribly exciting. Thanks for your toil, KM.

I like how "Lightworks" appears here in three variations: the original, J-Dilla's appropriation and then MF DOOM rapping over the latter.

A couple of other things: entries for Mekons + The Mekons and Germs + The Germs (Perhaps not terribly important except that I panicked thinking "Lexicon Devil" and "Never Been in a Riot" had been eliminated.)

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Sunday, 10 March 2019 04:51 (five years ago) link

My estimate would be that I like my #1, I don't know, maybe twice as much as my #50? So if I changed the top 10 to 300 points, that'd be 3,000, and the bottom 25 to 150, that'd be 3,750, leaving 3,250 for the middle 15, which works out to...a decimal. So just leave it like it is--the numbers are easy to work with.

clemenza, Sunday, 10 March 2019 04:53 (five years ago) link

nice, thanks! I should have done a better job checking the The's section - but I ended up moving straight on to the rest of the prep work. Thanks for the fixes.

btw, for those who are up late on a Saturday night (or up super early on a Sunday morning): how long should the voting period be? 3 weeks sound about right (ballots due by the end of Sunday, March 31st)?

I know it's a ton of songs so we need a decent amount of time, but I don't want to do one of those interminable polls that go on and on (even this nominations process took forever, i thought)

clemenza, for your option how about:

1-10: 300 points (3,000)
11-25: 217 points (3,255)
26-49: 150 points (3,600)
50: 145 points (145)

it's a ridiculous compromise: you know you want to agree to this

but i'm there are fuckups (Karl Malone), Sunday, 10 March 2019 05:00 (five years ago) link

or if not, i'll just go with your option you mentioned above. but it's really not a big deal (on my end) to do the one i just posted, and then the spread would be a lot closer. others might like that too, and also they might appreciate your option because it's entirely made up of tiers

but i'm there are fuckups (Karl Malone), Sunday, 10 March 2019 05:01 (five years ago) link

clemenza let me know what you decide by tomorrow morning, if you can! if i don't hear back i'll just go with the first option you proposed. other than that, i have everything ready to go for the voting poll, and i will post it sometime between 10-11 am Central time tomorrow morning

kinder, Sunday, 10 March 2019 09:22 (five years ago) link

Thank you for adding back Elvis Costello - No Action, KM, but now it’s on there twice w/ different times.

Chris L, Sunday, 10 March 2019 12:33 (five years ago) link

Sorry, just got up. That's fine, thanks again.

clemenza, Sunday, 10 March 2019 12:46 (five years ago) link

That's perfect, yeah--you got my 2-1 ratio. Thanks!

clemenza, Sunday, 10 March 2019 12:48 (five years ago) link

I also like that I now get to punish my #50 song by docking it a few points. It's like, "Okay, you made my top 50, great--but don't you think you could have tried just a little bit harder?"

clemenza, Sunday, 10 March 2019 14:44 (five years ago) link

thanks for catching the double No Action, Chris. not sure how i fucked that up! that means i get to add one final song to the nominations list:

The Cramps - Rock on the Moon (1:54)

just gonna edit the pastebin list of nominations, add the Clemenza Option to the google form, and then we'll be ready to go! daylight savings time threw me off but i still expect to meet my goal of posting the voting thread between 10-11am Central

You're doing great work here. Pretty sure I'm going to be making use of your original mixed ballot tiers, otherwise it'll all be a bit too much for me.

KM gave everyone a chance to make corrections on the other thread last night...

He missed a message when I asked him to check this thread out

I'm going to continue working on a youtube playlist with the 407 songs not on Spotify. They are the last songs for me to check for mistakes and I might be done checking by tonight. I've pretty much been working on corrections/youtube song gathering a few hours each day since Friday

٩༼ º෴º ༽۶ (FlopsyDuck), Monday, 11 March 2019 15:33 (five years ago) link

7 are The Yummy Fur songs I posted on the other thread, so can just add that list.

The version of Lungleg - Chop Chop on youtube is all kinds of wrong too, will upload the good version later today.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 11 March 2019 15:40 (five years ago) link

Actually I should really have nominated some more Lungleg, oh well

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 11 March 2019 15:42 (five years ago) link

For your YouTube playlist: I added downloadable mp3 links to Odin and Chris Twinning on the other thread...I'll repost them here.

Odin - LostChris Twinning - Netherlands

Not sure if that helps.

They're melded together there, but they're separate links.

clemenza, Monday, 11 March 2019 15:49 (five years ago) link

It helps, I was going to slsk and upload everything myself but that works too

Gaseous Clay (Leee), Thursday, 14 March 2019 00:10 (five years ago) link

fuck there are a ton of great songs and I've just barely started the listening

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Thursday, 14 March 2019 00:35 (five years ago) link

The Ramones cover of Billie Holiday's "Lover, Come Back to Me" is an excellent song you should consider voting for ;)

My youtube playlist of all the remaining tracks will be out by Saturday.
The tracks I can't find so far:

2013 Electro Quirk: Dominique Leone - Those Productive Millennials (on bandcamp)
1966 Rockabilly Guitar: Jerry Porter - 3/4 Mostly Lovin'
2006 Rock Electronic: Lansing-Dreiden - Dazzle Magic
1992 Indie Lofi: Mosquito - Down
1995 LoFi Punk Rock: Phantom Pregnancies - Ants In Your Pants II (is it the same as Ants In Your Pants I?)
1937 Southern Folk: Pine Mountain Girls' Octet - Wondrous Love
2000 Classical Lute: Robin Blaze & Elizabeth Kenny/ Matthew Locke - The Delights of the Bottle
2015 Punk: Semi - Above the Law
2013 Indie Pop Bit Punk: The Tee-Tahs - Fun Forever
2002 Acoustic Rock: Tom Liwa & Florian Glässing - Kathleen in Grün

I've been using dates and personal descriptions to help me order the playlist because I'm a bit OCD

After lots of digging and converting I'm only missing 1 song:

2008 Lansing-Dreiden - Dazzle Magic (Part of the Promise) from album D.I. by D.D. (1:46)

I'll see if I can upload that Semi track to YouTube or something

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 14 March 2019 19:45 (five years ago) link

I also have that Phantom Pregnancies song, probably, I have most of their stuff

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 14 March 2019 19:45 (five years ago) link

I found them on bandcamp. I used a website to convert those to 128k - the best I can get without paying

~

Your welcome Karl. I don't know why I'm doing all of this other than putting off doing other stuff. Menial computer tasks are my bread and butter though.

plastered in paris (FlopsyDuck), Thursday, 14 March 2019 19:55 (five years ago) link

I actually don't have Ants In Yr Pants II. I only have Ants In Yr Pants I.

The Semi song on bandcamp is a different version to the one I was nominating fwiw

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 14 March 2019 20:22 (five years ago) link

Ants in Yr Pants II is from Astral Angora, my favourite multi-artist EP ever, I will upload it all to yt tonight.

I have no idea how to do this :( there used to be Windows Movie Maker that would do it but it's not available on Windows 10. Tried installing something calling itself Movie Maker but it doesn't let you add an audio file

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 14 March 2019 20:34 (five years ago) link

n/m found something called TunesToTube that does it:

Semi - Above The Law

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Saturday, 16 March 2019 18:38 (five years ago) link

Yes. I've uploaded 50 songs to youtube so far and they are listed as private until I'm finished. I will be able to get a lot done on Monday.

^ For those of you who didn't see me post this to the VOTING and CAMPAIGNING thread.

It's a curated youtube playlist of the songs missing from Spotify. I quite like the selection and flow of the first 95 songs. The rest of the songs will be dumped over the next 2-3 days with less flow.
