I've seen it said that one of the influxes of people into ILX was when Momus instructed his fanbase to start hanging around - are there any current posters who came here by those means?

no but one of the first threads I clicked on had naked Momus and yet I kept coming back to ILX

I originally found ILX through Momus, whose music I barely enjoy anymore. Actually I think it was his posts on here that turned me off of him. But I suppose finding this site means I owe him some thanks

i discovered ilx cuz of momus. lurked and read the DMB thread etc but did not register until much later after i had been at stylus cuz i guess i thought you had to be qualified lol

to be clear i also have no beef with any of the above, i just never quite got them separate in my brain. i regret to say i sometimes have this problem with Aimless and Amateurist, it's a thing with me and phonemes, not a reflection on the people's actual distinguishability.

i have tried to read that luna thread like 5230 times

On thursday I read both the Luna thread and the ilx heaven 5000+ post thread where it (mainly) went down.

i think that latter thread is the one i actually need to read. the luna thread is frustrating to read because it's a bunch of people talking about the thing that happened elsewhere

The Luna thread and 5000+ thread are dual weirdness, all the Luna stuff and then hundreds of posts unrelated to that that were just fighting between cliques like a fictional high school.

ILX had no chill until 2014 and now it always seems super calm.

the "proudly hosted on photobucket" watermark all over the images on both threads is fucking gold. it's almost always possible to estimate the time frame of visual media from the last hundred years or so - the color grades, the quality, dimensions of the image, instagram filters, etc. an old messageboard thread, even if it didn't have the dates, is now readily identifiable as mid-2000s because of the photobucket mess

just throwing that in there.
i wish i would have read that ilx heaven thread 10 years ago, it would have really helped every single time the luna stuff came back up

I have a friend who has amicably crossed paths with him online as she's big into both k-pop and horror - I told her he was a notable troll on ilx but mostly I just giggled to myself while mumbling about Nicky Wire in a banana suit.

LMAO, I just saw the "Rob Brydon's Identity Crisis" documentary on YouTube a few weeks back (I'm crazy about the British TV show "Would I Lie to You" is why) and when Nicky Wire popped up in said documentary, the first thing I thought of was, "Poor guy will never know some crazy person had this innate obsession with putting him in a banana suit." He seemed so normal and so kind and I felt really bad for Mr. Wire. Also, I do wonder if said friend/acquaintance (one of Clive Barker's regulars and someone who does quite a few horror cons) has ever encountered the C-man. I really hope not.

As one of the few ILXors I've known irl, I can confirm that matty perpz is chill.

Oh cool, I feel better now about having clicked on some of his Buzzfeed articles.

Anyway, I have one minuscule claim to fame and that's having been written into a "Janet and John" story for Terry Wogan's radio show. No, not "Wake Up to Wogan" but one of his Sunday afternoon live shows.* That and having two questions answered by Nick Rhodes on a BBC-sponsored chat back in 1998 is about as famous as I get.

*: What can I say? "The Dark of the Matinee" was a very powerful argument in Sir Tel's favor.

Except he had a grump about not ever doing anything on BBC2.
