i would like to point out that i have forgotten absolutely everything about that thread

imago, Saturday, 9 March 2019 20:50 (five years ago) link

the phrase, coined by you, "I would like to point out that i have been otm" (to paraphrase) is something I think about irl -- thanks for that

sarahell, Saturday, 9 March 2019 20:52 (five years ago) link

I've seen it said that one of the influxes of people into ILX was when Momus instructed his fanbase to start hanging around - are there any current posters who came here by those means?

Andrew Farrell, Saturday, 9 March 2019 23:17 (five years ago) link

were there ever?

steven, soda jerk (sic), Saturday, 9 March 2019 23:21 (five years ago) link

no but one of the first threads I clicked on had naked Momus and yet I kept coming back to ILX

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Saturday, 9 March 2019 23:22 (five years ago) link

It was naked Tuomus back in mydae

Mark G, Saturday, 9 March 2019 23:23 (five years ago) link

never saw naked Tuomas, I just remember him being pro-masturbating in the same room as a baby

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Saturday, 9 March 2019 23:26 (five years ago) link

he was in a martini glass, iirc

Tom Ewing thought so!

Andrew Farrell, Saturday, 9 March 2019 23:56 (five years ago) link

I originally found ILX through Momus, whose music I barely enjoy anymore. Actually I think it was his posts on here that turned me off of him. But I suppose finding this site means I owe him some thanks

Vinnie, Sunday, 10 March 2019 00:09 (five years ago) link

i discovered ilx cuz of momus. lurked and read the DMB thread etc but did not register until much later after i had been at stylus cuz i guess i thought you had to be qualified lol

difficult listening hour, Sunday, 10 March 2019 00:14 (five years ago) link

I didn't know who momus was until I read his posts on this site

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Sunday, 10 March 2019 00:16 (five years ago) link

Yeah, me neither. I still haven't heard any of his music.

i got a momus cd in a record store cutout bin twenty years ago and thought it sucked, i'd probably like it better if i heard it again now though

the scientology of mountains (rushomancy), Sunday, 10 March 2019 00:51 (five years ago) link

Momus got played on government-funded youth radio in Australia in the '80s

steven, soda jerk (sic), Sunday, 10 March 2019 00:57 (five years ago) link

Momus is one of several successful recording artists from the town of Paisley, including Paolo Nutini, Gerry Rafferty and Kenneth McKellar.

This was how I heard of Momus. I liked the song on here I remember.

i am an ilx lifer at this point but still very unclear on, and incurious about, any distinction between Momus and Matmos

ha ha

Dan S, Sunday, 10 March 2019 02:03 (five years ago) link

!!!!

there is a huge distinction
(apart from the music, DD is an AMAZING and very kind and generous person. i don't know much about momus the person but not many people on earth top DD so)

but i'm there are fuckups (Karl Malone), Sunday, 10 March 2019 02:04 (five years ago) link

love DD

xp that post also made me think of Matos

Dan S, Sunday, 10 March 2019 02:06 (five years ago) link

i may have been conflating Matmos and Matos above fwiw

|Restore| |Restart| |Quit| (Doctor Casino), Sunday, 10 March 2019 02:08 (five years ago) link

to be clear i also have no beef with any of the above, i just never quite got them separate in my brain. i regret to say i sometimes have this problem with Aimless and Amateurist, it's a thing with me and phonemes, not a reflection on the people's actual distinguishability.

|Restore| |Restart| |Quit| (Doctor Casino), Sunday, 10 March 2019 02:10 (five years ago) link

oh wait matmos worked on vespertine! i remember this now.

|Restore| |Restart| |Quit| (Doctor Casino), Sunday, 10 March 2019 02:12 (five years ago) link

just to.be clear
outside of ilx no cunt has ever heard of momus

~mine own~ bitcoin (darraghmac), Sunday, 10 March 2019 03:49 (five years ago) link

...but what if I'd heard of him well before ILX?

i have tried to read that luna thread like 5230 times

but i'm there are fuckups (Karl Malone), Sunday, 10 March 2019 05:11 (five years ago) link

On thursday I read both the Luna thread and the ilx heaven 5000+ post thread where it (mainly) went down.

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Sunday, 10 March 2019 05:48 (five years ago) link

i think that latter thread is the one i actually need to read. the luna thread is frustrating to read because it's a bunch of people talking about the thing that happened elsewhere

but i'm there are fuckups (Karl Malone), Sunday, 10 March 2019 05:59 (five years ago) link

The Luna thread and 5000+ thread are dual weirdness, all the Luna stuff and then hundreds of posts unrelated to that that were just fighting between cliques like a fictional high school.

ILX had no chill until 2014 and now it always seems super calm.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Sunday, 10 March 2019 06:25 (five years ago) link

the "proudly hosted on photobucket" watermark all over the images on both threads is fucking gold. it's almost always possible to estimate the time frame of visual media from the last hundred years or so - the color grades, the quality, dimensions of the image, instagram filters, etc. an old messageboard thread, even if it didn't have the dates, is now readily identifiable as mid-2000s because of the photobucket mess

but i'm there are fuckups (Karl Malone), Sunday, 10 March 2019 06:40 (five years ago) link

just throwing that in there.
i wish i would have read that ilx heaven thread 10 years ago, it would have really helped every single time the luna stuff came back up

but i'm there are fuckups (Karl Malone), Sunday, 10 March 2019 06:43 (five years ago) link

are DD and Danbunny different people?

calumy (rip van wanko), Sunday, 10 March 2019 10:19 (five years ago) link

Danbunny is Scott S3ward's brother

I had forgotten that ILX Heaven contained the only known (by me) sighting of Nabisco the Asshole!

Disclaimer: not only did I land on the wrong side there, I shouted "hey everyone look at me!" before I did so.

Fun fact: The ilxor that founded Kickstarter once posted “mr. snrub u are a motherfucking idiot and with every post you make i believe this more and more”

A funny tinge happened on the way to the forum (wins), Sunday, 10 March 2019 13:24 (five years ago) link

I have a friend who has amicably crossed paths with him online as she's big into both k-pop and horror - I told her he was a notable troll on ilx but mostly I just giggled to myself while mumbling about Nicky Wire in a banana suit.

LMAO, I just saw the "Rob Brydon's Identity Crisis" documentary on YouTube a few weeks back (I'm crazy about the British TV show "Would I Lie to You" is why) and when Nicky Wire popped up in said documentary, the first thing I thought of was, "Poor guy will never know some crazy person had this innate obsession with putting him in a banana suit." He seemed so normal and so kind and I felt really bad for Mr. Wire. Also, I do wonder if said friend/acquaintance (one of Clive Barker's regulars and someone who does quite a few horror cons) has ever encountered the C-man. I really hope not.

As one of the few ILXors I've known irl, I can confirm that matty perpz is chill.

Oh cool, I feel better now about having clicked on some of his Buzzfeed articles.

Anyway, I have one minuscule claim to fame and that's having been written into a "Janet and John" story for Terry Wogan's radio show. No, not "Wake Up to Wogan" but one of his Sunday afternoon live shows.* That and having two questions answered by Nick Rhodes on a BBC-sponsored chat back in 1998 is about as famous as I get.

*: What can I say? "The Dark of the Matinee" was a very powerful argument in Sir Tel's favor.

Except he had a grump about not ever doing anything on BBC2.
