Just realized that that TNC thread also features Neil Drumming, who is now a producer for This American Life and did a segment a few years ago about his friendship with TNC.

Best Ta-Nehisi Coates ILX post

jaymc, Saturday, 9 March 2019 04:27 (five years ago) link

Um, I am pretty sure I sent the thread to he and City Paper writer Neil Drumming who both posted.

I was writing for W. City Paper then too and tried to alert various people whom I had some sort of contact with to certain threads

Okay someone go find the Jake Tapper posts now.

omar little, Saturday, 9 March 2019 04:31 (five years ago) link

anyway, the most famous ILXor is clearly adamrl (nordicskilla)

jaymc, Saturday, 9 March 2019 04:32 (five years ago) link

uhh i thought adamrl was like a hot sweater vested film type, not a hot rock star.

macropuente (map), Saturday, 9 March 2019 06:15 (five years ago) link

he was wearing the sweater vest before he went onstage

but there were liability issues with the fire insurance

j., Saturday, 9 March 2019 06:17 (five years ago) link

sorry, one more... what was the name of that smug guy with glasses that posted here? i think he was a music writer. the sweater vest reminded me.

Hooray this ient a mischaracterization of tynan delong

Fuck, "hope this isn't"

From my dealings with 'the horror community' on Facebook, Calum is as deeply divisive a figure within that as he was on ILX. His company, 88 films, put out some excellent martial art blu-rays that I will continue to buy in Fopp at £6 a pop.

AFAIK, he also remains the only person to threaten ILX (!) with legal action.

smug guy with glasses doesn’t exactly narrow it down tbf but are you thinking of matth3w p3rp3tua aka fluxblog

invited to an unexpected ninja presentation (bizarro gazzara), Saturday, 9 March 2019 10:07 (five years ago) link

yes, TYNAN

XxxxxxxXxxxxxxxxXxxxx (dylannn), Saturday, 9 March 2019 10:13 (five years ago) link

p3rpetua seemed chill to me

XxxxxxxXxxxxxxxxXxxxx (dylannn), Saturday, 9 March 2019 10:14 (five years ago) link

Strickler is the richest former ILXor, I would guess.

who’s the richest current ilxor

invited to an unexpected ninja presentation (bizarro gazzara), Saturday, 9 March 2019 10:36 (five years ago) link

sanpaku

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Saturday, 9 March 2019 10:39 (five years ago) link

where are the tax returns?

d00mie also threatened ilx with the law

(after alan mcgee's moral rectitude was questioned in a possibly over-forthright way)

mark s, Saturday, 9 March 2019 11:33 (five years ago) link

As one of the few ILXors I've known irl, I can confirm that matty perpz is chill.

although it described ~85% of ilx posters, i got the right answer within one post. kudos jim in vancouver

Lol goldberg called me a spic iirc

kurt schwitterz, Saturday, 9 March 2019 18:59 (five years ago) link

Steve goldberg was the indie singer songwriter who talked about neutral milk hotel and musical theory all the time? Didn't realize he posted some "racially charged" content

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Saturday, 9 March 2019 19:33 (five years ago) link

did Goldberg go there as well? I remember jay blanchard snapped and went racist.

omar little, Saturday, 9 March 2019 19:39 (five years ago) link

nobody goes racist, they either already were or they aren't

imago, Saturday, 9 March 2019 19:56 (five years ago) link

Oh yah that was Blanchard! Sorry Goldberg!!!

imago has never seen the musical "south pacific"

the scientology of mountains (rushomancy), Saturday, 9 March 2019 20:19 (five years ago) link

no kidding imago but i mean in the "accidentally revealing it" sense

omar little, Saturday, 9 March 2019 20:22 (five years ago) link

though i guess to actually type out a word then hitting "submit post" is not quite as accidental as blurting something out in a heated conversation.

omar little, Saturday, 9 March 2019 20:23 (five years ago) link

xp - ok mr i want this racist bottle opener

imago, Saturday, 9 March 2019 20:49 (five years ago) link

i would like to point out that i have forgotten absolutely everything about that thread

imago, Saturday, 9 March 2019 20:50 (five years ago) link

the phrase, coined by you, "I would like to point out that i have been otm" (to paraphrase) is something I think about irl -- thanks for that

sarahell, Saturday, 9 March 2019 20:52 (five years ago) link

I've seen it said that one of the influxes of people into ILX was when Momus instructed his fanbase to start hanging around - are there any current posters who came here by those means?

Andrew Farrell, Saturday, 9 March 2019 23:17 (five years ago) link

were there ever?

steven, soda jerk (sic), Saturday, 9 March 2019 23:21 (five years ago) link

no but one of the first threads I clicked on had naked Momus and yet I kept coming back to ILX

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Saturday, 9 March 2019 23:22 (five years ago) link

It was naked Tuomus back in mydae

Mark G, Saturday, 9 March 2019 23:23 (five years ago) link

never saw naked Tuomas, I just remember him being pro-masturbating in the same room as a baby

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Saturday, 9 March 2019 23:26 (five years ago) link

he was in a martini glass, iirc

rb (soda), Saturday, 9 March 2019 23:32 (five years ago) link

were there ever?

Tom Ewing thought so!

Andrew Farrell, Saturday, 9 March 2019 23:56 (five years ago) link

I originally found ILX through Momus, whose music I barely enjoy anymore. Actually I think it was his posts on here that turned me off of him. But I suppose finding this site means I owe him some thanks

Vinnie, Sunday, 10 March 2019 00:09 (five years ago) link

i discovered ilx cuz of momus. lurked and read the DMB thread etc but did not register until much later after i had been at stylus cuz i guess i thought you had to be qualified lol

difficult listening hour, Sunday, 10 March 2019 00:14 (five years ago) link

I didn't know who momus was until I read his posts on this site

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Sunday, 10 March 2019 00:16 (five years ago) link

Yeah, me neither. I still haven't heard any of his music.

Tuomas, Sunday, 10 March 2019 00:40 (five years ago) link

I'm a Scottish person who likes indie pop and isnt famous for not knowing who people are so I've less of an excuse

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Sunday, 10 March 2019 00:50 (five years ago) link

i got a momus cd in a record store cutout bin twenty years ago and thought it sucked, i'd probably like it better if i heard it again now though

the scientology of mountains (rushomancy), Sunday, 10 March 2019 00:51 (five years ago) link

Momus got played on government-funded youth radio in Australia in the '80s

steven, soda jerk (sic), Sunday, 10 March 2019 00:57 (five years ago) link

Momus is one of several successful recording artists from the town of Paisley, including Paolo Nutini, Gerry Rafferty and Kenneth McKellar.
