as i said, i actually joined spotify for a month so i could appreciate the effort you put into this tremendous playlist of small songs.

you have done and are doing a wonderful job running this poll.

if there are spotify refuseniks i don’t think it’s a personal attack on you, i get that stance and fwiw i think you’ve made a number of thoughtful posts articulating why it needn’t be necessary to interact with spotify to get the most out of the poll.

love this song but the only sub-2 minute version i can find is a live performance on youtube. everything else is closer to 3

same with Willie Nelson's "hello walls", which is a bummer because that was going to be top 10 for me

spottie i'm not sure which song this is on the album - the sub-2 minute ones i can see are 'intro', '112/faith evans interlude', and 'thank you interlude', but none of those are near 1:58. removing for now but just let me know if i'm off

fwiw i don't use spotify & have nommed a buncha stuff that's unlikely to be on there but GO SPOTIFY! yay playlists! this poll is a can of worms & thank you karl malone for taking the mantle head on.

despite my whining, it's really not too big of a deal.

i'm done for tonight. vital stats so far: 1186 songs entered, 1000 of which are on spotify. average length of about 1:35

i don't want to single out any single posters over others, but certain stretches of the playlist are very satisfying. ok, i'll single out one: i love tuomas' stretch, much of which i hadn't heard before. but there have been many others that really hit the spot. i'm excited to see how it all shakes out at the end, but even just this big nominations list is a pleasure to listen to imo. thanks everyone so far for contributing

These polls are only viable because something like Spotify makes it feasible to hear most of the music nominated. 15 years ago it would just be 'list a bunch of good tracks less than 2 minutes long' and that would be that.

Karl you do amazing work. I'd offer to help assembling the playlists - one way might be to create two versions, one of which is collaborative that everyone can add to. Obviously that's of risk of being fucked around with but you can cross-ref with the thread, your own playlist etc. and in the meantime it's a bit easier and quicker for people to hear everything nominated sooner.

BTW I'm sure it got lost upthread but yeah do ignore my 'Was Dog A Doughnut?' nomination. Save it for an Instrumentals mega-playlist/poll...

But tbh I am far more interested in the playlists and happening on some interesting&/enjoyable works through them than the poll process and results.
