Is there a quick way to tell how many songs you've hearted in a playlist?

Gaseous Clay (Leee), Thursday, 28 February 2019 21:58 (five years ago) link

not really, but you can go to your 'songs' list and then sort by date added and grab all the recent ones and throw in a separate playlist

We must also remember that there are a lot of great songs not on Spotify, and come the campaigning thread, this may be a priority for some

one of the reasons i've been so desultory on the noms is because i don't do spotify and thus am, in a practical sense, precluded from meaningfully participating in this particular poll

the scientology of mountains (rushomancy), Friday, 1 March 2019 00:47 (five years ago) link

i don't do Spotify but do have a radio show so am often in need of songs to fill a short gap at the end of the show.

Karl Malone, Friday, 1 March 2019 01:04 (five years ago) link

Just get the song length from wherever you listen to it online, or from your CD player. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t match up to the Spotify length. I’m just using Spotify as the decider when songs are really close to exactly 2 minutes, in an attempt to defuse other inevitable complaints about the process

looking up several thousand short songs individually on youtube to see if i like them vs. clicking on a spotify playlist

the scientology of mountains (rushomancy), Friday, 1 March 2019 01:51 (five years ago) link

What would we do if Spotify didn’t exist? Having a convenient way for some people to listen to songs doesn’t decrease anyone else’s ability to participate.

Karl Malone, Friday, 1 March 2019 01:52 (five years ago) link

CP do you mind just limiting your noms to things you might vote for on a 50-track ballot? Do you want to go through the rest of the alphabet and pick yr favorites or just stick with those?

Karl Malone, Friday, 1 March 2019 01:53 (five years ago) link

I said this upthread, but there is no mandate to listen to every single possible song and come up with the perfect list. Just participate in a way that doesn’t make your life living hell. That goes for everyone else whose life has been ruined by this poll

rush i paid spotify $10 just so i could hopefully hear most of everything here. you could do the same, no ? (genuinely curious to know if you have a specific objection)

alternately you could ilx email me and i could send you 30 c90s :)

side note: ppl don’t get upset when i post a non-TMBG alternate playlist in the campaign thread. p done with having my vibe severely harsh’d every ten songs

budo jeru, Friday, 1 March 2019 05:17 (five years ago) link

spottie i'm not sure which song this is on the album - the sub-2 minute ones i can see are 'intro', '112/faith evans interlude', and 'thank you interlude', but none of those are near 1:58. removing for now but just let me know if i'm off

Karl Malone, Friday, 1 March 2019 05:18 (five years ago) link

xp i just don't get the spotify objection at all, tbh

the poll could be 'best songs of the 1990s', and the possible nominees would be too large to count. and that would be ok. people would just pick their favorite songs from the 1990s. (actually, i'm probably wrong - i'm sure everyone would complain)

or this poll could exist, in a world where spotify doesn't exist, and that would be ok. everyone would just seek out the songs however they did so before youtube/spotify, and vote based on what they knew. (actually, i'm probably wrong - i'm sure everyone would complain)

but instead, it's this poll, but i made the mistake of spending a bunch of extra time to make a spotify playlist, which makes life easier for some people. but i shouldn't have done that? because it now means that life is harder for others? what

Karl Malone, Friday, 1 March 2019 05:22 (five years ago) link

just fucking blows to spend a ton of extra time trying to help people only to end up pissing others off

Karl Malone, Friday, 1 March 2019 05:23 (five years ago) link

Karl many of us are greatly appreciating and grooving to the Spotify playlist!

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Friday, 1 March 2019 05:27 (five years ago) link

km what on earth !!

nobody is pissed off afaict.

as i said, i actually joined spotify for a month so i could appreciate the effort you put into this tremendous playlist of small songs.

you have done and are doing a wonderful job running this poll.

if there are spotify refuseniks i don’t think it’s a personal attack on you, i get that stance and fwiw i think you’ve made a number of thoughtful posts articulating why it needn’t be necessary to interact with spotify to get the most out of the poll.

no complaints from me !

you're right, i'm just being...weird. sorry.

the lame real reason is that i have a drug test coming up and i just want it to be over so i can start smoking again instead of drinking too much. i'm happy when i smoke, i'm sulky when i drink. what, just don't do either? wtf, that's ridiculous. anyway, sorry again. rush, sorry to freak out on you. i spent this whole thread warning people to have fun and then i crapped all over it.

ok, jumping back into the list.

despite my whining, it's really not too big of a deal.

i'm done for tonight. vital stats so far: 1186 songs entered, 1000 of which are on spotify. average length of about 1:35

Karl Malone, Friday, 1 March 2019 06:42 (five years ago) link

i don't want to single out any single posters over others, but certain stretches of the playlist are very satisfying. ok, i'll single out one: i love tuomas' stretch, much of which i hadn't heard before. but there have been many others that really hit the spot. i'm excited to see how it all shakes out at the end, but even just this big nominations list is a pleasure to listen to imo. thanks everyone so far for contributing
