you haven't been in a while. Even the fast food's good.

It’s called Black Spire Outpost for a reason: Batuu is a planet made up of spires, but one in particular stands out. Sitting in the middle of the outpost is one spire that’s much blacker than the rest, and that’s how Black Spire Outpost gets its name.

been seeing articles about how Galaxy's edge is not crowded and a failure. was there a week ago, and I promise you it was crowded (though we didn't have to schedule a visit). the worst part is the creepy dudes pledging allegiance to kylo ren in the park because you know they are trump voters.

BREAKING: Epcot Will Be Divided into Four "Neighborhoods" Through Reimagining; World Discovery, World Showcase, World Celebration, and World Naturehttps://t.co/88wjtefGOf pic.twitter.com/ZYyzNN3gI2

Hmm. At the very least a radical, or even modest, reinvention of Epcot will give a reason to go to Epcot, currently probably the most skippable of the parks.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 25 August 2019 20:31 (four years ago) link

On the contrary: it's the park we never skip (World Showcase is never not fun), whereas I've been once to Hollywood Studios in the last 20 years.

Do you not love the magic of film

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 25 August 2019 20:37 (four years ago) link

I love Epcot, but they could do so much more with it. A facelift is a good start.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Sunday, 25 August 2019 20:40 (four years ago) link

Eh. Last time I was there we were pretty bored beyond the food, and there is only so much food you can eat. At least Hollywood has a couple of good rides.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 25 August 2019 20:58 (four years ago) link

If you find Epcot boring, you're drinking it wrong.

McGrief the Crying Dog (Old Lunch), Sunday, 25 August 2019 21:10 (four years ago) link

I mean, when in Epcot, drink! But there are better places to drink than Epcot.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 25 August 2019 21:16 (four years ago) link

I've said it before, but I love pretty much all the food in Disney World. Animal Kingdom in particular has some great stuff, and the park's broad dedication to employing people from the regions represented by its restaurants is a master stroke.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 25 August 2019 21:18 (four years ago) link

The best eating/drinking discovery from our last trip was Nomad Lounge in Animal Kingdom. We spent a ridiculous amount of time just chilling on the patio.

McGrief the Crying Dog (Old Lunch), Sunday, 25 August 2019 21:58 (four years ago) link

Is that the little cocktail lounge near Pandora? My wife and MIL enjoyed some time there while I puttered around the avatar stuff with my son.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Sunday, 25 August 2019 22:46 (four years ago) link

AK has the best fast food of the four parks, but, wow, WDW food has improved hundredfold since my childhood visits. You can't go wrong anywhere.

As good a thread as any to note that one of the new Disney+ series, The Imagineering Story, is an enjoyable enough overview of the whole park system's history. Various points glossed over -- 'labor disputes' are mentioned elegantly more than once by the narrator, Angela Bassett, which, yeah, ABOUT those disputes. But they've interviewed a slew of people who are still around or were closely working with many original team members, and the sheer amount of crisp, color behind the scenes footage -- there's a ton from the original construction of Disneyland itself, which I just didn't expect at all -- combined with the slew of anecdotes and images makes it worth a watch. Also, more than a few studies about how various areas were redone as necessary. First episode is about Disneyland and the initial Florida purchases up to Walt's death, the second covers Roy's caretaker work to get WDW going, the creation of Epcot and also of Tokyo Disneyland, and that's all that's available so far.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 18 November 2019 15:56 (four years ago) link

Way back when they put out these awesome metal-tin DVD collections of pretty much all Disney shorts and non-fiction stuff, I wonder if that Imagineering stuff is part of that.

We are also going again. We get the SoCal resident discount, which isnt too bad ($67 for single park per day). You just feel a bit bad about paying so much for a hotel in a city 2 hours outside of home.

Resort prices are extremely high at the moment. Thinking about the possibility of staying in a different part of Los Angeles and just doing a day at the parks.

https://insidethemagic.net/2020/07/tom-sawyer-island-altercation-ba1/

A loud, expletive-filled argument reportedly took place on Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom this afternoon. Guests reported hearing the altercation from several locations in the theme park.

According to an update shared on a Walt Disney World Annual Passholders group on Facebook, Guests reported that a loud altercation took place on Tom Sawyer Island, which is located in the center of the Rivers of America near Frontierland in Magic Kingdom park.

The Facebook post said that a male Guest was heard repeatedly shouting expletives. Other Guests noted that the man’s voice was so loud that his foul language could be heard from several locations throughout the park, including the entrance of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in Adventureland, Liberty Tree Tavern in Liberty Square, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in Frontierland.

Guests reported on social media that Cast Members gathered on the main land and waited for Magic Kingdom security to arrive on the scene. According to the original post on Facebook, Disney staff dealt with the situation as soon as possible.

At the time of this article’s publication, it is not known what happened to the Guest who was reportedly involved in the altercation. It also has not been reported whether the incident ever turned physical or if it was only a verbal dispute. One witness reported that the altercation at one point involved the male Guest “screaming in a woman’s face.”

It is important to note that even though Walt Disney World is the Most Magical Place on Earth, it is not immune to real-world issues. Altercations involving Guests are not uncommon. However, Disney Cast Members and security officials are at the theme parks in order to maintain a safe, happy, and healthy environment as much as possible.

If you ever witness activity like this or you are uncomfortable or concerned when visiting one of the Disney Parks, be sure to find the nearest Cast Member or report your issue with Guest Relations, located in each of the Disney Parks.

We will update Inside the Magic as more information regarding this incident becomes available.

Why would anyone care about masks and distancing if you’re going to fucking Disney World in a pandemic.

Boring, Maryland, Sunday, 26 July 2020 16:56 (three years ago) link

I'm sure plenty of people do, but yes, let's just assume they are 100% morons.

I've seen a couple of references to low attendance at Disney, which was predictable. Has anyone seen or has the company offered any hard numbers? I also saw a report of I think at least a couple of the restaurants at Epcot, which are run by third-party vendors, closing for the same reason lots of restaurants are closing.

I have a friend who took their family to Shanghai Disneyland yesterday and took a lot of IG stories. First things I noticed: no masks, maybe slightly reduced capacity but there looked like pretty long lines for the Tron ride, they were able to cram the whole park in a day.
