too soon

mookieproof, Wednesday, 27 February 2019 20:55 (five years ago) link

yeah we don't really have that kind of seasonality. starts raining in september, stops at the end of june. coldest december to february, can be sunny in april, may, june.

it's more than the weather for me -- the cold season (nov-feb) is accompanied by a slew of holidays that i don't care about/would prefer to ignore and a hibernation period i find stultifying. March-October brings increasing sun, warmth, AND people. that's important to me. i didn't realize how important it was for a long time but it is important to me!!

too soon

not soon enough!!!

where you traveling to?

valet doberman (Jon not Jon), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 21:06 (five years ago) link

Mexico City!! El D.F.!!

I feel it will get the worthwhile portion of the year off to a solid start. I'm really starting to divide my year differently so I can make the most of the good times and minimize the harm of the bad times. New plan.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 21:07 (five years ago) link

start planning for spring and summer (and beyond) in jan/feb --> have a much better spring/summer and also something to look forward to in the future instead of endless dread

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 21:08 (five years ago) link

I'm from Wisconsin and last year we got pummeled with 2 feet of snow on April 15

but, looking at the forecast, it does appear next week is the last week below freezing

welcome!! nov-feb is for planning the rest of the year, catching up on various boring shit, and minimizing harm (don't get injured on the ice, for example). two seasons: on and off!!

assume there's gonna be some lousy smarch weather ahead of us in nyc at least

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 21:39 (five years ago) link

will i ever be able to resist a lousy smarch weather joke even though the screencap from the simpsons is embedded upthread? no

Thread makes no sense when viewed from Quebec.

romanesque architect (pomenitul), Sunday, 1 March 2020 10:52 (four years ago) link

In the UK, we've just had the wettest February on record; they don't keep wind records but I'd happily bet it's been the windiest, too. The woods are a carnage of fallen trees and the fields are shin-deep in water but the days are heavier with light and the birds are singing so I'll take it.

Ngolo Cantwell (Chinaski), Sunday, 1 March 2020 10:56 (four years ago) link

I was out yesterday evening walking through advanced quagmire in the rain, even grassy areas are so saturated you have to watch your footing on hills. The daffodils are coming up nicely though.

calzino, Sunday, 1 March 2020 11:03 (four years ago) link

It’s here!! This winter was kind and merciful compared to last year. Not the weather so much (though that too) but circumstances. Proud I’m still in one piece and 100% ready for SPRING!!!

this is the first year since 2016 that i've made it out of january and february without facing some sort of massive travesty so i'm feeling optimistic

lousy smarch weather

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 1 March 2021 09:37 (three years ago) link

very much November weather here this morning, dense fog and cold. Such low visibility that when I let my dog off the lead he was completely out of sight for five minutes.

calzino, Monday, 1 March 2021 09:46 (three years ago) link

This year I’m not as excited about March bc I’m unemployed and this is my deadline for beginning my job search in earnest. The weather is def getting better though.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 1 March 2021 13:29 (three years ago) link

It was 72 here yesterday, and the trees are budding. Birds everywhere, spring on the wing.

x-posting my blunder:

March is just a slightly less aggro February here. Having to wait until late April/early May to experience spring for a split second before summer sets in is one of the things I hate the most about living in Quebec.

pomenitul, Monday, 1 March 2021 15:55 (three years ago) link

We’ll also be going from 5 to -17°C within less than 24h. How exciting.

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Monday, 1 March 2021 16:12 (three years ago) link

We should poll the cruelest month.

pomenitul, Monday, 1 March 2021 16:14 (three years ago) link

The cruelest month is December. Also spring is the least sucky of all seasons. .

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 1 March 2021 16:17 (three years ago) link

Growing up in the Northeast, spring was my least favorite season. I remember it as a slurry of dirty snow, muddy boots, damp mittens and dead yellow grass poking through during thaws. I never understood the appeal of the season til I moved to East Tennessee, where it really does that Bambi thing where everything suddenly flowers in mid-to-late March, we get highs from 65 to 75, and it is just totally gorgeous (if hard on the sinuses).

take it to the Hell Yes It's September thread, Spring-haters
