meanwhile, Fred is back...and he's somehow gotten worse

reckon you could get good odds on Spurs being sixth by the end of March

that goal brought me some of the greatest pain I have ever known watching football
― ogmor, Thursday, 28 February 2019 12:54 (five years ago) link
I had other plans and missed the whole game but on the basis of the two soft goals alone I'm not sure if we've had a more suicidal game in years.
Saturday is going to be horrible, although I'm glad I turned down tickets now.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 28 February 2019 12:58 (five years ago) link
look obv trippier is a total disaster all season but one shot on target (not a good one) and lloris has conceded two, as well as being shakey af all night.
tbh i thought there were decent spells last night but the defence is almost back to square one, piss easy to eke out a good chance and very likely to concede from it.
― god knows i want to fp (darraghmac), Thursday, 28 February 2019 14:12 (five years ago) link
That one free kick against Fulham aside, Trippier has probably been our worst player this season, I dunno if the World Cup went to his head or if it was just a freak moment of peak performance and he's regressed to the player he was when we signed him. Worse even, we definitely concede more goals when he's in the team even when he's not wanging them into his own net.
Eriksen has been playing within himself for a while now as well.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 28 February 2019 14:17 (five years ago) link
yeah
debate there as to whether his standards were really sustainable when you look at the burden of creativity on him. we dont seem to ask anything of quite a few in our formation and so it sticks out badly when he falters.
ie if sissoko, lucas, winks, lamela start in a four theres no assist coming from that lot, just a lot of huffing and puffing and passing to flanks and back
he badly misses the ambition of allis runs and positioning as well. kane and son consistently coming back really makes us handy to corral.
course he could just already have fucked off in his head.
also cuuuuuuuuuuuuunts

― god knows i want to fp (darraghmac), Thursday, 28 February 2019 17:19 (five years ago) link
the ignominy of being arguably almost worse than Hudds Town, but with 100 mill worth of talent was too much.
― calzino, Thursday, 28 February 2019 17:24 (five years ago) link
Scott Parker as caretaker which means they've pretty much accepted their fate.
Are we all agreed that the bottom three as it currently stands are all going down?
― Matt DC, Thursday, 28 February 2019 17:42 (five years ago) link
no, we are staying up now.
― calzino, Thursday, 28 February 2019 17:43 (five years ago) link
might revise that one by the end of March tho. But we play a right load of duds!
― calzino, Thursday, 28 February 2019 17:48 (five years ago) link
Fulham were cooked in October.
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 28 February 2019 18:57 (five years ago) link
I dunno
If we sold Dier to any of the likely bidders (either Manchester club really) for any less it would seem pointless. English, gives them that in their squad in a player worth having, young, couple of positions, we don't need to sell and are in a position where we're probably much more focused on consolidation.
The 4bn pot has kicked things on again also, so the above spurs special conditions are exacerbated by the overall madness

Like, and I think I've said this, but the market as it is makes me look at the quoted prices for walker, rose, ah the fuckin lot, and it feels like pre crash Dublin 6 where the only sensible option is to sell sell sell, pay off all debts, promote from youth, stay in the division and buy em all back including bale, modric and thudd for a combined 30m when the footballing world ends in 2019

Our midfield is manifestly not up to a game like this and Arsenal's defence appear entirely comfortable with all these Trippier crosses. Do something else FFS.

he had a poor first half, but he was pushed up the field when Dalot came on (after another shocking display from Sanchez) and it made a big difference. Set up Lukaku's first too

― god knows i want to fp (darraghmac), Saturday, 2 March 2019 23:25 (five years ago) link
I'd agree even if it didn't benefit Utd
Smalling gets away with at least one blatant shirt pull in the box every game. I don't like it, but it seems to work for him
Young is just a disaster but Dalot seems to be coming along well so hopefully he can be phased out soon
