Going onto a thread for Sanders supporters and posting stuff like "I pray to God it won't happen but maybe he will die peacefully in his sleep during the campaign; only, then, who will his stans blame?" and "how will we preserve our standing to criticize other candidates when his campaign co-chair said this thing on TV three years ago?" was blatant concern trolling. There might be a valid case to be made that ilx should have never had a fan club thread for a politician in the first place and that trolling was therefore justified but the first comment was still in p poor taste imo and got a rare FP from me.

I'm not even taking a strong pro-banning position here but I do think it makes sense to say NP was trolling.

fwiw, when Nerdstrom entered this thread and posted his response, ending with:

"But here we have teachable moment for all of us. Surrendering to these petty and abusive calls for my removable would be failing the test of this moment."

he pretty much tattooed "I'm as phony as a three dollar bill" on his face.

Lots of ppl on ilx0r dot com are perfectly reasonable and fun, multi-faceted personalities across most threads but flare up into intractable beasts on one topic or bugbear

As with all things, this place is far more agreeable when politics are kept off the table. I've been mulling this over lately, and have come to the conclusion that furiously keeping up with political drama hasn't made me a more ethical person by any stretch of the imagination – once or twice a week is more than enough. That said, I'm pretty sure that nerdstrom was a bona fide troll. Dissenting opinions aren't suppressed by the mods so much as they are drowned out by the eternally self-replicating closet juggalo hivemind.

Arguably, that might have merited a FP as well. (But I didn't give it one.) I guess it felt less trollish since it was on the "second thoughts" thread in the first place and wasn't presented with a pretence of being a concerned supporter.

There was this one time when I lived in a basement apartment and we had like a half dozen friends over on a summer evening and we were just kinda hovering around the open front door gabbing and enjoying some drinks when suddenly this total rando comes from out of nowhere and just like dives over the railing of our steps and struts in like he owns the place, to the baffled stares of everyone in attendance.
