I like this alt history where I'm good at games.

(Other than Trials, I mean.)

I've given up on RDR2 as a complete duffer. Was feeling an urge for some Silent Hill type action which I have fond memories of on the PS1. So after one lazy search I decided to go for Outlast rather than the latest Resident Evil whatever it's called.

just ordered a ps4 pro, looking forward to only using it to play niche small budget rpgs at 1080p

got my pro, this thing is huge. getting some xbox meme vibes...

Is Journey + fl0w + flower at $7.50 worth the plunge?

Gaseous Clay (Leee), Tuesday, 5 March 2019 19:21 (five years ago) link

if you haven't played at least two of those yet, absolutely.

tempted to pay $15 to bum around ubisoft egypt for a bit

ciderpress, Tuesday, 5 March 2019 19:51 (five years ago) link

Divinity Original Sin 2 is on sale in PSN for $36 now, kinda tempted but I'm trying to be smart and wait till it gets to $20.

tempted by some stuff in this sale and my bonus just came in...

ciderpress, Saturday, 16 March 2019 14:35 (five years ago) link

one month passes...

I made it pretty far into Doom on the Switch, but I'm thinking about buying and playing it again on PS4 for the better performance and graphics (and price, since it's basically $10 or so). Question: if I've only played it with Nintendo's gyro, will the learning curve be insane for twin analog sticks? It's literally the only FPS I've ever played, so that could work either for or against me if I switch to sticks after gyro.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 3 May 2019 21:49 (four years ago) link

Playing a FPS with analog (really with anything other than a mouse) is among the worst game experiences imo - I don’t know how anyone does it

these are not all of the possible side effects (Karl Malone), Friday, 3 May 2019 22:16 (four years ago) link

imo consider waiting for the sequel later this year rather than buying the same game twice

ciderpress, Friday, 3 May 2019 23:12 (four years ago) link

though i guess that'll be full price

ciderpress, Friday, 3 May 2019 23:12 (four years ago) link

Maaan, being a “FPS only with mouse and keyboard” dude is some olde tyme shit. Been pretty well optimized since (I guess?) Halo. I honestly prefer it now, but I am not a hardcore competitive shooter bro.

circa1916, Saturday, 4 May 2019 00:23 (four years ago) link

Doom for 10 bucks on PS4 is absolutely worth it. A lot was compromised to get that working on the Switch. Kinda of a VHS to Blu-Ray jump. I imagine it would be tricky adjusting to the non-gyro aim tho if that’s all you’re used to.

circa1916, Saturday, 4 May 2019 00:27 (four years ago) link

I have Wolfenstein 1, will try that.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 4 May 2019 01:10 (four years ago) link

i'm annoyed that ps4 shooters don't have gyro fine tune as an option, it's such an improvement over twin stick once you learn how to use it

ciderpress, Saturday, 4 May 2019 01:19 (four years ago) link

Oh, it was great for Nintendo Doom. The trade off is at the graphics and performance of Nintendo Doom is not on par with the PS4.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 4 May 2019 01:55 (four years ago) link

I've also been thinking about Wolfenstein II, which makes the choice a bit more stark: get it on Switch and get gyro controls but compromised graphics and performance (which were still pretty good on Switch Doom), or get it on PS4, which is bundled with Doom at a price slightly lower than Wolfenstein II alone on Switch, with better graphics and performance but no gyro aim. Clearly most people playing these games on PS4 are using the controllers/twin sticks, right? Or does everyone have some sort of mouse and keyboard adapter? Pretty soon I'll dive into those Uncharted games, and Last of Us - I assume there's twin sticks aiming and shooting in those as well?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 5 May 2019 13:29 (four years ago) link

stick isn't really that bad in 3rd person shooters. i haven't played the naughty dog ones but i assume they have generous aim assist since they're made for the masses

ciderpress, Sunday, 5 May 2019 14:45 (four years ago) link

i played the last one with lock-on because I'm a basic bitch but also because aiming with a stick sucks

Lil' Brexit (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 5 May 2019 17:20 (four years ago) link

lock on is just the most generous aim assist

ciderpress, Sunday, 5 May 2019 17:39 (four years ago) link

i feel like it's more realistic for me to drop these fools like a cold-blooded badass than to be drunkenly waving my hi-tech weaponry around like a senile gorilla

Lil' Brexit (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 5 May 2019 17:41 (four years ago) link

so you see, it's for the good of the game

Lil' Brexit (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 5 May 2019 17:41 (four years ago) link

Playing The Last of Us as a shooter is going to lead to bad times.

Lars Ulriac Quintet (Leee), Sunday, 5 May 2019 19:11 (four years ago) link

You all are talking about lock-on/auto-aim (are they the same thing?) on ... Last of Us? Iirc there is some sort of aim-assist in Doom but tbh after the time I've spent with it on Switch using gyro it's just so fast and chaotic I can't imagine any sort of "assist" helping, short of lowering the difficulty level. Even with gyro - which is a huge help - I never thought it was particularly easy, unless set as such.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 5 May 2019 19:28 (four years ago) link

yeah the naughty dog games arent really shooters like doom is hence lock on

ciderpress, Sunday, 5 May 2019 19:35 (four years ago) link

I'm talking about the last Uncharted game fwiw, the one with the ladies in India

Anybody heard or know anything about A Plague Tale?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 19 May 2019 01:18 (four years ago) link

it's got rats aplenty

ciderpress, Sunday, 19 May 2019 05:31 (four years ago) link

This guy likes it a lot: https://youtu.be/A_Ycx1qsJiA

The gameplay looks a bit sparse, graphics aren't smooth, but I've heard that the story is good, which has me modestly interested too.

I don't like the brown on brown on brown on brown colour palette.

Non, je ned raggette rien (onimo), Sunday, 19 May 2019 11:30 (four years ago) link

Looks pretty intense! Seems like a future cult classic, and since so many on PS4 at least are still talking about Days Gone, I can totally see the price dropping on this (or it going on sale) quickly.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 19 May 2019 12:58 (four years ago) link

no one is talking about days gone

ciderpress, Sunday, 19 May 2019 14:37 (four years ago) link

They are on forums, afaict. One of the big complaints about it is that a lot of the reviews were fair to middling, but players have been enjoying it more than promised. That has sort of been the same reaction to fair to middling reviews of Rage 2: if writers said Days Gone wasn't great but players really enjoyed it, and now writers are saying the same thing about Rage 2, does that mean players will actually enjoy Rage 2? It's as if the AAA games get all the attention, but standards are so high that they get perhaps unfairly weighted criticism. Meanwhile, games like Plague maybe go more under the radar.

death stranding releasing this november

ciderpress, Wednesday, 29 May 2019 18:39 (four years ago) link

So much for TLOU2 this year.

I and I think just about everybody knows nothing about Death Stranding. However, I do not want to look at that actor's face for the entire game.

ciderpress, Wednesday, 29 May 2019 19:50 (four years ago) link

INTERNET HEARTMAN is up for grabs.

It's kinda amazing, given that the PS5 is right around the corner, how many heavy hitters are, well, hitting in the next year or so. Death Stranding, Doom Eternal, Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Cyberpunk 2077, the (other) new From Software game (Norse mythology? Great Rune?) ...
