True Detective 3 is also atop SNA, and it's on HBO not Netflix

But at least you're not the one whose regular posting style is 'Drumpf will probably powershart out a confession of collusion onto the bed linen during his next piss tape' and who is nevertheless attempting to clown me
i feel like this is a step in the right direction of ascending to the next level in Weingartenism, but you neglected the crucial element of ALL CAPS
― sarahell, Monday, 11 February 2019 18:15 (five years ago) link
no way would a true Weingartenist miss the opportunity to type POWERSHART as opposed to just leaving it in understated lowercase

Narcos S2 was a bit better than S1, and I thought S3 did a good job with the Cali Cartel stuff. The new series is a disappointment bc it seemed like it was moving in a better direction, but it falls back onto the lazy tropes of crime shows and films, and similar to the original series it errs too much on the side of making a genuinely despicable villain into a likable, sensitive businessman who just happens to run a murderous cartel. Maybe they didn't want to make Wagner Moura and Diego Luna unlikable. I don't blame the actors there. The portrayals don't seem very honest though.

i guess i should say that it's a lazy copout to romanticize and make the cartel lifestyle attractive in a way that would attract *anyone* rather than the more difficult work of showing it how it really operates in its constant ugliness, making you understand why these psychopaths and sociopaths would find it attractive but still acknowledging that it's ugly.
I think the series GOMORRA works a lot better in that regard, it's looks amazing but it's so ugly and depressing and the whole endeavor seems pointless (which hearkens back to the film series Battles Without Honor and Humanity, crime as a pointless and ugly life).

you know what did that well, was this Colombian show "En la Boca del Lobo"
― sarahell, Monday, 11 February 2019 18:38 (five years ago) link
just looked it up -- that's interesting bc it covers the same ground as Narcos S3, the main subplot of that (head of security for Cali Cartel helps bring them down) being the primary storyline for this one!

yeah, it's based on that guy's book -- stylistically it's more of a telenovela -- like, if it had been an American netflix production it would not have been 80 episodes long; it would have been much shorter -- but i felt like it did a better job of conveying the day to day and the personalities of the Cali Cartel and other people involved in the story

Normally not that into hats, but that show Kindgom has the best (and potentially the most) hats I’ve ever feasted my eyes on. Started off a little slow and boring but the hats kept me coming back and the plot and hats really picked up in episode three. What a show.

personally, I've been enjoying a new old show called Ghost Town Gold. in it, two men wearing blue jeans travel to old western mining towns in the United States (states such as Utah and Nevada, for example) and search through old homes and barns for western artifacts such as: spurs, stirrups, mining lanterns, vintage Levis blue jeans, etc. they then haggle with the home owner to make a deal, and then sell the artifacts for profit. but during the negotiations you get to learn a little bit about the history of the town and the home owner's family history, it's pretty cool and neat!
