Camp Cope was my #1 vote. Sad to think I was the only one to vote for Damien Jurado.

Albums on the metal poll noms that made the general poll

Senyawa - Sujud
Ghost - Prequelle
Yob - Our Raw Heart
YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN - Dirt
Andrew WK - You Are Not Alone
The Armed - Only Love
Deafheaven - Ordinary Corrupt Human Love
Sleep - The Sciences
mewithoutyou - (untitled)
Tropical Fuck Storm - A Laughing Death in Meatspace

Granted that some will say some of those are not metal, but its a heavy and noisy rock and metal poll and all ilxors and lurkers are allowed to votes why not have a wee look and help drugs a money out.
(No promises you will get any drugs or money from him)

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Saturday, 9 February 2019 14:26 (five years ago) link

There seemed to be way more guitar-oriented entries vs previous years.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Saturday, 9 February 2019 14:30 (five years ago) link

especially in the lower half. Was there a shallow year for hip hop and bobbins stuff or did they just not vote?
I haven't heard anyone say 2018 was a classic year for rock or how rock is back etc

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Saturday, 9 February 2019 15:01 (five years ago) link

it was a great year for bobbins but there wasn't as much consensus as the bobbins thread itself has kinda died. partially due to lack of need for discussion when a youtube link will suffice, partially due to the most vocal and interesting posters posting less or migrating away from ILM completely, and partially through the continued splintering of dance music. "house & techno" as an umbrella term seems less relevant than ever

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Saturday, 9 February 2019 15:20 (five years ago) link

I wasn't on the metal thread (or ilx) from about march until this poll rollout so I have no idea if the rolling thread thought it was a great year but I think there's a good chance what has happened in bobbins thread has happened on metal thread as A) it always looked dead and several high profile rolling thread posters and voters say they aren't voting in metal poll this year.

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Saturday, 9 February 2019 15:25 (five years ago) link

I think some of the older posters have either lost interest in metal or have lost interest in current metal and only listen to new releases by bands they already like or just listen to classic stuff.
Age catches up with metallers just like it catches up on some clubbers.

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Saturday, 9 February 2019 15:34 (five years ago) link

metal thread didn't feel quite as active this year as last, but as recently as last year, i believe it was the most active rolling thread ... at least in terms of posting new songs that ulysses (is ulysses the mega-Spotify playlist master? i can't remember) was tracking.

alpine static, Saturday, 9 February 2019 16:02 (five years ago) link

tbf most of the old metal threads were just links to the writers blogs but they've mostly migrated to twitter.

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Saturday, 9 February 2019 16:06 (five years ago) link

what?

alpine static, Sunday, 10 February 2019 03:17 (five years ago) link

Arve Henriksen, Eivind Aarset, Jan Bang & Jez riley French - The Height of the Reeds

This was the piece done for Hull being CC right? Is it a studio recording of the piece or a recording of the performance on Humber Bridge?

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 11 February 2019 08:13 (five years ago) link

It's a slight edit of the performance on Humber Bridge ('only minor adjustments have been done to justify the transition from sound walk to album', says Rune Grammofon).

pomenitul, Monday, 11 February 2019 10:13 (five years ago) link

Thanks, will check it out. Henriksen rarely disappoints.
