oh also autechre ! nice. think i managed to listen to this once but over four or five listening sessions.

I docked Autechre some spots on my ballot because, while brilliant and hugely ambitious (just plain huge, really) it was just too much to wrap my head around. I can only really take them one track at a time.

I hate it

autechre was my number one. I think it's quite possible that I spent more time listening to autechre in 2018 than all other 2018 albums combined. This is them in top form, perfecting the aesthetic they have been going for since Exai.

Great to see Sun-El’s fantastic South African house record in the top 10, so fucking deserved.

And for everyone who’s been living under a rock: Simmy’s Tugela Fairy, which was produced by Sun-El and came out later in the year, is even better, my #1 where this one was #7. That should tell you something. Please make sure you give it a listen before we do the *official* poll in two weeks’ time!

i'm sure it does, i wasn't making the obvious comparison, also it's not a historical narrative

I've tried with every album they released but I don't think I've managed to listen to a 1975 album in its entirety.

good album with some real snoozers

Previous 1975 album much better and also more adventurous, this one felt like some sort of weird fan service

I'm now rooting for a female artist whose name begins with M, that's for sure

I don't hate this at all! But the love mystifies me a little. I guess the drumming and general musicianship are rly good even if the songwriting is a little by the book
