I think it’s a great video, just yeah, so elaborate! Will need a few rewatches to absorb the details.

Oh, not exactly the right thread, but I saw Swearin’ last night and they have such a lovely energy together and the whole gig felt very warm. They didn’t play Oil and Water though, which was regretful.

Swearin' fits just fine here, I think

there's a new Partner song but it's not up to par with their best work tbh

resident hack (Simon H.), Thursday, 31 January 2019 15:23 (five years ago) link

when i saw them live last year they seemed about to make a dramatic stylistic shift that i don't know if i wanna follow them down. gonna check out the song anyway

Did you guys know about MIKE KROL?

tangenttangent, Monday, 4 February 2019 11:24 (five years ago) link

I just found out because of this new album: https://mikekrol.bandcamp.com/album/power-chords

Listening to his first and second albums will cost you a combined 35 minutes and I highly recommend it. The most fun power pop in the world, and that's saying something.

tangenttangent, Monday, 4 February 2019 11:44 (five years ago) link

I honestly don't know if post-hardcore belongs here or in Rolling Metal but I saw Humanities, Ultra Love, and Dark Plains on the weekend and it was a really good show. Humanities recall Fugazi but are heavier, with some good noisy moments; probably some Shotmaker in there. Dark Plains is actually comprised of former members of Shotmaker, Okara, and Metz, and get into some almost pigfuck-like territory; sometimes even some blues-rock-informed riffs and cool lead guitar bits that I sometimes wish went on longer. I was most surprised by Ultra Love, whose Arpin produced a really satisfying wash of noise and dissonance, with tuneful bits, on a Les Paul in something of a post-metal/gaze dirge context.

husked, tonal wails (irrational), Friday, 8 March 2019 20:08 (five years ago) link

that Pitchfork feature today must have done its work cause I'm actually digging the hell out of the Wicca Phase Springs Eternal album

Simon H., Friday, 15 March 2019 01:49 (five years ago) link

though the "rap" element is overstated, really it has more in common with the earlier Coma Cinema/Elvis Depressedly stuff imo

Simon H., Friday, 15 March 2019 01:50 (five years ago) link

Yeah I’m not 100% sure what emo rap is supposed to be after listening to it but agree that it’s pretty great.

alrakis morissette (tangenttangent), Friday, 15 March 2019 06:02 (five years ago) link

It's not very rappy. It's ok. A little slight to me.

there's a new Caracara song, from an EP out at month's end. How did I miss this?

ha, that's awesome

jmm, Thursday, 21 March 2019 14:49 (five years ago) link

new La Dispute is excellent on first listen, more concise and considered than the other stuff of theirs I've heard

Simon H., Friday, 22 March 2019 16:58 (five years ago) link

gorgeous production/mixing, too

Simon H., Friday, 22 March 2019 17:01 (five years ago) link

argument-era fugazi vibes emanating from "rhodonite and grief"

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Saturday, 23 March 2019 13:34 (five years ago) link

spliced with, like, brother, sister-era mewithoutYou

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Saturday, 23 March 2019 13:35 (five years ago) link

Yeah, it's really good. I own Wildlife and it's solid, but this is clearly several leagues better.

Simon H., Saturday, 23 March 2019 13:48 (five years ago) link

I find the guy's vocal approach really interesting too, that mix of rhythmic recitation, singing, and several steps in between.

Simon H., Saturday, 23 March 2019 13:50 (five years ago) link

This Caracara song is real good.

husked, tonal wails (irrational), Sunday, 24 March 2019 22:30 (five years ago) link

I'm sort of in awe at how quickly/easily they came together and made Summer Megalith before they ever played a show

Simon H., Wednesday, 27 March 2019 16:14 (five years ago) link

I was lucky enough to catch Mitski there when she was touring behind Bury Me at Makeout Creek.

WOW

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Friday, 29 March 2019 15:48 (five years ago) link

ok the phrase "uncomfortably numb" now has to make a third emo appearance this year, these are the rules

Simon H., Friday, 29 March 2019 15:58 (five years ago) link

lmao i thought the same thing

whole album is like a long lost mid-'00s emo crossover record. i hear echoes of early panic!, infinity and folie era fall out boy, and black parade mcr all over this thing (plus their main influence for their past two records, third eye blind)

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Friday, 29 March 2019 16:42 (five years ago) link

"one sunset" my goodness

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Friday, 29 March 2019 17:07 (five years ago) link

laura stevenson made another album that hurt my feelings

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Friday, 29 March 2019 19:00 (five years ago) link

ok it's from three years ago but i finally bought a copy of boys night out's black dogs ep and i think it's my favorite emo release of the past decade https://boysnightout.bandcamp.com/album/black-dogs

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Saturday, 30 March 2019 16:56 (five years ago) link

gonna check that Maine record this week.

but I can't let Trae do it I got Huerter on my mind (Spottie), Monday, 1 April 2019 06:51 (five years ago) link
