the album was too much of one thing, but I got this one stuck in my head

Your sweetie-pie-coo-coo I love ya (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 28 January 2019 16:45 (five years ago) link

the EPs were so thrilling, the album was a bit of a step down. my fav track was "the hammer"

voodoo chili, Monday, 28 January 2019 16:45 (five years ago) link

when you die has some nice Rundgren energy

It does! Some psych Beatles vibes too. I haven't listened to them at all since Oracular Spectacular (which I liked well enough) but I'm pretty into this tune.

The other metal track = "Honeycomb"?

Locked in silent monologue, in silent scream (Sund4r), Monday, 28 January 2019 16:49 (five years ago) link

The French Press was agreeable enough, but I can't recall a single song from the LP.

pomenitul, Monday, 28 January 2019 16:49 (five years ago) link

the plan is to get this to 61 today.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 28 January 2019 16:50 (five years ago) link

or "Luxury Themes" xxp

resident hack (Simon H.), Monday, 28 January 2019 16:50 (five years ago) link

Another one from my album ballot, not sure if this is my favourite track on there but it's the one that first grabbed my attention. Didn't realise how much I missed this sort of sound in indie rock.

(emily, here's that MRF thread, I'll update as i err: Ongoing fixes for the ILM 77 Tracks Poll)

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 28 January 2019 16:51 (five years ago) link

omg PLEASE xxp

imago, Monday, 28 January 2019 16:51 (five years ago) link

That Rolling Blackouts tune sounds like decent 3Ds album filler. Nothing wrong with that.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 28 January 2019 16:52 (five years ago) link

Damning with faint praise for the 69th best track of the year though.

Matt DC, Monday, 28 January 2019 16:55 (five years ago) link

rolling blackouts: thoroughly all right

Can we talk about how awesome Parquet Courts are?

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 28 January 2019 16:57 (five years ago) link

Not sure what to make of that (RBCF) tbh. It's not unpleasant and has a hook but also doesn't seem that exceptional. Might just need more time. xps

Locked in silent monologue, in silent scream (Sund4r), Monday, 28 January 2019 16:57 (five years ago) link

lmao i was just gonna mention parquet courts after hearing that rolling blackouts song

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Monday, 28 January 2019 16:57 (five years ago) link

"fuck tom brady" -- otm

voodoo chili, Monday, 28 January 2019 16:58 (five years ago) link

The indie run seems more quarantined into a single patch on the list this year.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 28 January 2019 16:58 (five years ago) link

my rbcf opinions are probably more scathing than most but i generally reserve my greatest ire for the indie that gets in instead of the indie i like. you do not need to hear my rbcf opinions

omg FUCK parquet courts

imago, Monday, 28 January 2019 16:58 (five years ago) link

I don't really care about parquet courts but I like this song a lot

resident hack (Simon H.), Monday, 28 January 2019 16:59 (five years ago) link

I think I do, imago.

Locked in silent monologue, in silent scream (Sund4r), Monday, 28 January 2019 16:59 (five years ago) link

laura jean track is wonderful and certainly my favorite new find so far. i was going to say it seems to end a bit too soon but it seems the edit in the video is quite a bit shorter than the full-length album version.

andrew wk is still like a novelty act to me. don't get it.

i find it funny that some ppl turn their noses up at freemasons-like sample-based disco revivals circa 2006 yet find this dj koze track compelling. not much to say about it.

mgmt track is all right tho i'm not sure there's much i'll want to revisit. nice video though.

dyl, Monday, 28 January 2019 16:59 (five years ago) link

"total football" at least better than that dance punk song they did this year ("wide awake??!?!?!" iirc)

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Monday, 28 January 2019 16:59 (five years ago) link

lol yeah "wide awake" is terrible

resident hack (Simon H.), Monday, 28 January 2019 17:00 (five years ago) link

I really hope this is not that patch.

nor do you need to hear my parquet courts opinions

imago, Monday, 28 January 2019 17:00 (five years ago) link

oh and i def need to echo the sentiment that the image cards are outstanding, huge props to moka

dyl, Monday, 28 January 2019 17:01 (five years ago) link

I guarantee 12 hours from now in the rollout's off hours we'll hear them.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 28 January 2019 17:02 (five years ago) link

andrew wk is still like a novelty act to me. don't get it.

He reminds you that music is worth living for.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 28 January 2019 17:02 (five years ago) link

hahaha shit I didn't think my first post had gone through! the perils of posting about awful indie from the metro system

imago, Monday, 28 January 2019 17:02 (five years ago) link

I was fairly indifferent to PQ until this year, I've come around to really liking both Wide Awake and Human Performance.

Gavin, Leeds, Monday, 28 January 2019 17:02 (five years ago) link

I didn't vote so I've already waived my right to complain but not a single one of the tracks that made it so far is conceivably among the best of 2018.

pomenitul, Monday, 28 January 2019 17:02 (five years ago) link

parquet courts track has brilliant intro, but goes swiftly downhill when the actual song gets going

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 28 January 2019 17:03 (five years ago) link

the real indie run is usually in the 20s or teens

ciderpress, Monday, 28 January 2019 17:04 (five years ago) link

I only voted for one track because of how my listening was shaped last year. I like the rollout and listening to the breadth of people's interests. Except Parquet Courts. That song sucks.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 28 January 2019 17:04 (five years ago) link

Oof... This is dreadful.

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 28 January 2019 17:05 (five years ago) link

it's not my usual thing aesthetically but i actually sort of like it

dyl, Monday, 28 January 2019 17:06 (five years ago) link

... um ...

I obvs know nothing. I have no clue whatsoever is even in the top 20 besides maybe "thank u, next." I was off the grid this year.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 28 January 2019 17:07 (five years ago) link

'Baby Shark'

no offense intended but i would prefer fewer teases about whatever terrible shit is on the way

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Monday, 28 January 2019 17:09 (five years ago) link

I like PQ, love them live, like WA in May/June, lost interest in replaying it.

Your sweetie-pie-coo-coo I love ya (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 28 January 2019 17:10 (five years ago) link

Same tbh xp

Johnny Fever, Monday, 28 January 2019 17:11 (five years ago) link

as an avowed hater of contemporary indie rock:
"total football" is listenable but nothing i would ever intentionally come back to.
i just played "talking straight" twice and can't remember anything about it.
"when you die" is oddly mannered and okay i guess? MGMT not my cup of tea.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 28 January 2019 17:11 (five years ago) link

love it if we made it, nobody and that kacey musgraves song about it being amazing the world has different timezones will all do p well

the best band in the world

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Monday, 28 January 2019 17:12 (five years ago) link

beautiful song, made my ballot last minute!

resident hack (Simon H.), Monday, 28 January 2019 17:13 (five years ago) link

Great song, voted for Jaipur instead
