How did I completely miss that Valentina was Angel in Rent???

Yerac, Monday, 28 January 2019 15:08 (five years ago) link

GAG.

This season has definitely picked up in the last couple weeks, and it was great to see this week's winner step up, especially since I knew, based on her original season, she had more to show than we've seen. And the high camp of her lipsync!

I did not expect to Monet in the top though...

Maybe the most baskstabby elimination since shangela sent thorgy home?

Or even Monique. Did not get the Money love at all. Maybe she did good at the Judy number, but we can never really tell who does well in these.

LeRooLeRoo, Monday, 4 February 2019 20:57 (five years ago) link

and why would that figure higher in the judging than you two judy looks & runway? monet’s judy makeover of Patty was kinda horrifying imo, his face was clown- white with hardly any contour of color anything!! compared to Trinity’s judy looks for ex

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 4 February 2019 21:14 (five years ago) link

Maybe they wanted a sacrificial lamb on the altar of Naomi's lipsync?

Stateleee, Plump Buck Mulleeegan (Leee), Monday, 4 February 2019 21:16 (five years ago) link

Frances Bean didn't bring much to the table as a judge but, you know, being the age I am and remembering her arriving in the world in real time and all that...just a little strange. (And I do remember that bunch of photos with Kurt and Ru and etc.)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 4 February 2019 21:19 (five years ago) link

I think she was super-duper nervous

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 4 February 2019 21:29 (five years ago) link

I don't know how anybody else feels but Naomi's lip-sync was the one of the greatest things I've ever seen in my life
I actively wondered if Monet was deliberately sitting it out to let Naomi have her win (and to remove her from having to make that toughest of decisions)
Bummer though I was hard-core rooting for the individual who was eliminated (and now I'm rooting 100% for Naomi)

froggles! (flamboyant goon tie included), Monday, 4 February 2019 21:47 (five years ago) link

From my spot on the couch, it looked like Monet was trying to pull one of those "let the face sell the song" bits, like what Latrice did with Aretha's "You Make Me Feel." It didn't feel anywhere near as deliberate a throw as Trinity's old suit from last week.

zama roma ding dong (Eric H.), Monday, 4 February 2019 21:48 (five years ago) link

lol I loved Trinity's performance last week!

like what Latrice did with Aretha's "You Make Me Feel."

This sounds 100% plausible! But IMO that tactic totally doesn't fit the song.

Stateleee, Plump Buck Mulleeegan (Leee), Monday, 4 February 2019 22:03 (five years ago) link

like what Latrice did with Aretha's "You Make Me Feel."

Exactly how I saw it too. Which I thought could've worked on it's own, but not next to Naomi's slayage.

Book of the year already.

Darlings, it brings us JOY LIKE YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE to announce that our book:

"LEGENDARY CHILDREN: The First Decade of @RuPaulsDragRace and the Last Century of Queer Life”

will be published by Penguin Books in April ‘20!!!!!!!!

Jesus, that Sex and the City challenge was hard work.

But I have a serious case of winter lips at the moment, so I am just obsessed with watching Naomi's mouth move.

trishyb, Saturday, 9 February 2019 09:59 (five years ago) link

Hard to watch? That was a dud of a script. Aside from Monique, I couldn't tell who would be in the top/bottom.

Latrice needs to avoid flinging baked pastries at the other girls, it never works out well for her.

Stateleee, Plump Buck Mulleeegan (Leee), Saturday, 9 February 2019 23:10 (five years ago) link

ugh after last week’s rollercoaster thrillride this was about as exciting kayaking in a shallow pond

that challenge was bad, the script was SO bad ugh

and Monet looked like a CARE BEAR sex toy 😂

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 10 February 2019 01:00 (five years ago) link

Yeah I admit I watched last night on mute as I was catching up with some listening, as I kinda felt this was going to be a slog. From what I could tell, I was right!

I am at least glad we're getting a week's break before season 11. New Drag Race episodes run for half the year now!

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 10 February 2019 01:51 (five years ago) link

Cheeses, really? I wonder if they feel that the moment won't last for drag/Drag Race and are trying to squeeze as much out of it as possible.

Stateleee, Plump Buck Mulleeegan (Leee), Sunday, 10 February 2019 02:47 (five years ago) link

I mean as an above-ground cultural phenomenon that the entertainment industry can make a quick buck off, of course.

Stateleee, Plump Buck Mulleeegan (Leee), Sunday, 10 February 2019 03:10 (five years ago) link

I think the demand cycle is there, and we're seeing a general mainstreaming more and more. There's always a need for fresh faces...

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 10 February 2019 05:24 (five years ago) link

yeah, last week was a bit of a let down after the previous
was trying to remember, did Naomi ever lip-sync on her season (aside from finale when top 3 did songs, and group challenges like when the did teams on Adrenaline etc)
she def impressed me on both this time and on her Judy piece, was anyone else getting serious Carol Burnett vibes from her performance?
but still bummed a la Alaska, what she has done to her lips

H in Addis, Sunday, 10 February 2019 10:20 (five years ago) link

y'all, did any of you watch the Pit Stop episode w Vanjie? I... do not think she is going to last long.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 10 February 2019 15:38 (five years ago) link

Naomi lipsynced against Acid Betty. Yeah, I didn't remember that either.

Stateleee, Plump Buck Mulleeegan (Leee), Sunday, 10 February 2019 18:39 (five years ago) link

...that was bogus.

that result felt super lazy imo

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 17 February 2019 01:53 (five years ago) link

Based off the whole season, I would have given the prize to Trinity. But based off the final challenge, runway, and lipsync, it should have been Monet on her own. Trinity's final dress was really amazing, but you put that dress on any queen and she will look fabulous. Monet wore something that was about her, and she looked like an absolute queen in it. Also I just love Monet.

trishyb, Sunday, 17 February 2019 11:09 (five years ago) link

Based off the whole season I would've easily given the prize to Manila.

Trinity was so unlikeable. Her entire vector seemed less about "I want to contribute to drag culture" and more about "I want to win this competition". Every speech she gave about trying to be fair with her elimination choices felt emotionally manipulative. Her dresses and wigs were exquisite but looked like money spent... basically I felt the same way toward Trinity as I did toward Aquaria: money will hack this competition.

Naomi in her lip-syncs revealed herself to be not just an assassin but, like, uh, one of the best performers I've ever had the privilege of watching? I watched her Judy Garland performance three times and will watch it again

And I love Monique so so much I wish we were friends

Oh yes. I was only going on the four who were in the final. Definitely Manila.

trishyb, Sunday, 17 February 2019 14:57 (five years ago) link

xpost I have been having a hard time watching all of this all stars because I dislike Trinity so much.

Yerac, Sunday, 17 February 2019 15:27 (five years ago) link

I liked Aquaria fine tho. The queen where I thought “the money is being put to excellent use” was by far Miz Cracker, who has my favourite collection of runway looks over any other queen I’ve seen, whoever her designer is they should win an award

flamboyant goon tie included, Sunday, 17 February 2019 16:19 (five years ago) link

oh god i HATED Aquaria!! She was the most boring

vision joanna newsom (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 19 February 2019 15:57 (five years ago) link

She made me like The Vixen more, at least

zama roma ding dong (Eric H.), Tuesday, 19 February 2019 16:06 (five years ago) link

yeah I feel like the producers knew they had an issue with all the all star winners being white. at least they didn't split the prize money in half.

Lotta good points here:

https://www.dailyxtra.com/how-can-rupauls-drag-race-become-great-and-gay-again-144820#.XG77vEeokK4.twitter

Also it was interesting to hear Race Chaser grapple more directly with race in the wake of last week's ending. And Jinkx, who was on the line, was particularly pointed on that! As was Willam, who's close with Latrice.
