1) The Bird And the Bee - The Bird And the Bee,
Au Revoir Simone - The Bird of Music,
Ratatat - Classics

2) Rockism is real music. It is the blood and sweat put into a musical effort.
It is possibly more of a state of mind for musicians and music lovers. The experience of music that is produced and recieved can bring out the best in people. Though the opposite can also be said of certain types of music and its lack of authenticity and emotion. The musical experience being a subjective one is so wide and diverse that it should not be stuck in one genre or mind frame but explored, pushed and challenged. If it is not, it will become stagment and fade away. We have seen this in much of the musical trends that pass through the public conscience over the years.

3) http://www.nme.com/images/62_cat_power_131005_L.jpg

4) Both Sufjan Stevens and Deerhoof have their good qualities, but i do know which one i prefere.
Deerhoof has the possibly rawest sound of the two, but what Stevens looses in volume he makes up for in the sheer beauty of his songs. The references to faith that some people seem to find a major factor is not something that i spend to much time dweling on. I feel the songs and music speak for themselves and that the lyrical content is a subjective experience. One that people should try.
Deerhoof on the other hand while still creating fantastic music, hasnt been as much of an exciting experience as Stevens. This isnt to say that everyone shouldnt take the time to listen to both. They are both worthwhile experiences.

5) Just the one, that would be perfect.

tobb3, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 21:58 (seventeen years ago) link

@tohms19: without an invite, what good would it do you?

@tobb3: Hi! What's new???

Oink Administrator, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 22:37 (seventeen years ago) link

what do you mean what good would it do me? At least you finally responded after I posted 4 times. In other news, I don't believe that you actually are a part of the Oink community, otherwise you would not be hesitant to reveal your username.

tohms19, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 22:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Also, I happen to already be a part of the Oink community (as of about 8 hours ago).

Hey RichyG impostor dude,

We've had our fights in the past, but I'd like to cease the beef. Look, I'm glad you're now part of the Oink Community. Send me a PM next time you're online, and I'll hook you up with some dope azz Uffie tracks. Feeling a little bit guilty about all this.

One Love,
RichyG

In my imagination, Oink rocks this much...The Tattooed Pigs are alive and well on a farm in China. They're part of an on-going project by artist Wim Delvoye.

Dear "ralphie,"

Really now... everyone else has to follow the rules but you? Surely satanism has taught you a thing or two about following authority, no? We are the higher authority now, and your application is slipshod!

Thank you,

Oink Administrator, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 14:04 (seventeen years ago) link

ender, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 14:58 (seventeen years ago) link

So admin, why do you hesitate to give me your oink username. If you can tell me it, then we can find a way to prove that you are actually part of oink. Im still heavily inclined to believe this entire site is a hoax...

tohms19, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 15:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Dear "tohms19,"

You are a dreamer -- I like that!

Please don't be bitter that you weren't selected to receive an invite.

Thank you,

Oink Administrator, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 15:20 (seventeen years ago) link

hahahaha, Im already in Oink, so Ill be able to check your user profile. Why dont you tell us all what it is...hmmm, unless you dont have one?

tohms19, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 15:30 (seventeen years ago) link

Dear "tohms19,"

You could certainly check my user profile, except I only share it within Oink.

I would advise you to do the same.

Thank you,

Oink Administrator, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 15:32 (seventeen years ago) link

okay, if wasnt part of oink, i wouldnt be able to see it anyway, so what difference does it make.

This is a hoax people!! I hope you can tell that from my conversation with the admin. As for an alibi, I was not even in Virginia that morning, and it would have take many hours for me to get there.

Just wondering whether or not I was accepted.
I was never informed.
Thank you.

Hey Oink Admins!

I posted a while ago, originally as fat-latvian and then as recspecs81. I was told that I was accepted but then got no email at either of those email addresses.

Soooo, my question is: am I really accepted? rejected? wasting my time?

Thanks for any help you can offer!
-Dave (a.k.a. fat-latvian and recspecs81)

recspecs81, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 19:55 (seventeen years ago) link

I thought I told you to stop using that offensive handle.

Oink Administrator, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 20:30 (seventeen years ago) link

Your application was rejected.

Posting a picture of Britney Spears in place of the required Cat Power picture is not a funny joke. You clearly are not ready for the responsibilities associated with oink account ownership.

Did you check your spam folder? They get stuck in there sometimes.

Best of luck.

Oink Administrator, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 22:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Hahaha, how am I jealous. Search my username on Oink and youll find that I am already a part of Oink. Needless to say, it is no wonder that so many "accepted" people post here again about not receiving emails with invites. All of the "success" stories are the oink admin logging in as different users.

tohms19, Thursday, 19 April 2007 02:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Im not a different user and he sent me an invite

RichyG, Thursday, 19 April 2007 02:50 (seventeen years ago) link

oh okay, well then whats your username on oink?

tohms19, Thursday, 19 April 2007 02:53 (seventeen years ago) link

You should refrain from posting such images directly and instead simply give links because now I cant access this forum from any public places.

tohms19, Thursday, 19 April 2007 06:23 (seventeen years ago) link

I never posted a picture of Britney Spears. Perhaps you got my post confused with another's. My picture of Cat Power is a picture of Cat Power. Feel free to check again.
So, after clearing that up.. I'm wondering if the status of my request could be changed? I believe my essays were well written and I followed the provided instructions.

Thanks,
Ryan

what can I say, I have to hand it to you "Oink Admin," RickyG is in fact a part of Oink as of a few days ago, so it seems this place may not be hoax after all (or your just real good). That said I still dont understand why you are leaving all of these "accepted" people hanging. None of the transactions ive made have ever had this problem.

2) Rockism is, much like buddhism or taoism, a complete faith in the guiding light and purpose that music can offer us. Whereas prayer, sacrifice or repentance are part of other faiths, so too do we give all we have and devote our lives to the pursuit of the next great track or album to provide us sustinance and balance. True followers of rockism live each moment for their belief and find constant salvage in it. Music complements and enhances each moment of our lives and provides a type of fulfillment which is left empty by all other facets of life. The ipod is our bible, shows are our sermons and torrent sites give us new enlightenment like moses bringing down new commandments from mt. zion. I recall my rockmitzvah, listening to the likes of nirvana, pearl jam, op ivy and nofx, feeling the joyous power of rock and have never looked back since. Rock sustains us, guides us, and gives meaning to our lives. We, the followers of rockism.

3) havent seen a lot of pics but this is a good one:
http://www.mtv.com/shared/media/images/artist/c/cat_power/az_official/281x211.jpg

4) While I can certainly appreciate the output of put I have to say that Sufjan takes it. First of all I feel like his voice is much more palateable and his lyrics are much better. First of all they actually have a universal meaning and story-telling quality and paint aural pictures rather than just spouting random weird lyrics. Second of all, he is such a master of orchestration and his arrangements and melodies are so concise and comforting as well as classic. A lot of his stuff is like a folky pet sounds or beatles type thing which I have always liked. Finally, he plays so many instruments himself. Playing nearly all instruments on the album himself and coming up with unique production and recording techniques is the true sign of an artist and has and will serve him for the duration of his career. While deerhoof have done some interesting things with rock and a new-prog type thing they just arent as proven or precise or anything as Stevens...come on now.

1) Name three shared albums (+192kbps only) that others have successfully downloaded from you in the past week:
Ween: Chocolate and Cheese
Bob Marley: Legend
Primus: Frizzle Fry

2) What is rockism? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum).

Rockism recognizes the music there is in humanity, and our ability to produce it. There is a very strong connection between our primitive nature and music, so much so that it flows out of humans from the rythm in their bones and each breath that is taken. In its simplist form is the enjoyment of music for music's sake. It is an ideal that seeks to explain how music and its production play a critical role in our everyday lives, so much that it actually causes people to physically move. When given the oppertunity to take the time to recognize the intimate and complex connections between the producer of music, the sound itself, and those who interprate the music, one should be humbled in the face of rythm. Depending on one's position on their journey of discovering themselves in relation to the sounds they hear, different revelations occur which cause indivuals to seek and discover different genres and find what they enjoy. No one type of music should be criticized, for one man's trash is another's treasure. I can admit as a child I once loved N'Sync and Brittany Spears, without whom, I would not have had the foundation which brought me to my understanding of music today, which my libriary is mostly compsed of the illest jam bands. Although I do not particulary care for these artists now, and cannot beleive how agregious the effects pop culture has had on America, I will by no means dismiss what they have to offer because in and of its self is a piece that will have some impact on those who are exposed to it, for better or worse. We can only thank those who produce and share thier music with pure intentions and postive messages which no one can disagree with, like Bob Marley, Michael Franti and Spearhead. These are the artists whose messages transcend all biases, and seek to unite the world's diverse population as one race of humans. Power to the Peaceful.

Post a link to your favorite picture of Cat Power:
http://www.gigwise.com/artists/00010494_cat-376.jpg

4) Which artist is better, Sufjan Stevens or Deerhoof? Why? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)

Due to the influential nature of both Sufjan and Deerhoof, as well as their divergent backgrounds, and ways in which people are influenced by the music, I find it hard to choose who is better. It is hard to conclude from my juxtaposition of the artists, whom I am really not that familair with. From what I have gathered, they both have different impacts on their audiences and preform in a completely different manner from eachother. For example Sufjan Stevens applies more of a structured folk approach characterized and enriched with his ability to preform instrumentally and lyrically, while Deerhoof is unconventional and seemingly odd music may not make alot of sense to those who do not seek for a deeper meaning. Infact, instead of hearing lyrical metaphors that are more likley to come from Sufjan, Deerhoofs whole songs could be metaphors in and if themselves waiting for one to discover the actual deeper meaning in irreverent musical practices.
