xp I learned recently that SFO uses a private company, Covenant Aviation Security,(which contracts with TSA) for passenger/baggage security

Dan S, Monday, 21 January 2019 21:11 (five years ago) link

I have never made an effort to leave particularly early for a flight and not been stuck sitting around an airport for hours.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 21 January 2019 21:59 (five years ago) link

Although I live on a good no-traffic day about 12 minutes from the airport, I'm a get-there-at-least-three-hours-early guy. I remain scarred by the TSA lines the first couple years after 9-11.

Probably for another thread/poll.

Kiss, of all bands, is offering free meals to TSA workers at their chain of restaurants. Smart promotion from these hucksters? Yep. But one meal a day (salad or pulled pork sandwich) until TSA gets paid is still pretty generous.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 04:16 (five years ago) link

Seems pretty damn calibrated to me. A lot of them have families to feed, too. And why just TSA workers? Why not every furloughed federal worker?

A is for (Aimless), Tuesday, 22 January 2019 04:29 (five years ago) link

I think Coast Guard, too. I assume they'll feed you if you take your boat through the drive-thru.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 04:51 (five years ago) link

Because the TSA are the only branch of the federal government that republicans think they use.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 22 January 2019 04:57 (five years ago) link

Eh, it's pretty clear that TSA is at the fore of lots of people minds. That's why no one is writing stories about national park workers calling in sick or whatever. Anyway, there is lots of nutso stuff in here:

omg, Rudy gets himself tangled up so easily:

I can tell you, from the moment I read the story, I knew the story was false.

Because?

Because I have been through all the tapes, I have been through all the texts, I have been through all the e-mails, and I knew none existed. And then, basically, when the special counsel said that, just in case there are any others I might not know about, they probably went through others and found the same thing.

Wait, what tapes have you gone through?

I shouldn’t have said tapes. They alleged there were texts and e-mails that corroborated that Cohen was saying the President told him to lie. There were no texts, there were no e-mails, and the President never told him to lie.

So, there were no tapes you listened to, though?

No tapes. Well, I have listened to tapes, but none of them concern this.

A is for (Aimless), Tuesday, 22 January 2019 05:14 (five years ago) link

and putin definitely doesn't have any tapes either. there are no tapes. no one has been listening to tapes much recently, and uh both sides do it!

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 05:44 (five years ago) link

Both sides are incriminating! No, not of the tapes!

Is this the thread where ilxor federal government workers can vent about what a complete fucking disgrace this country is and I don’t know how the fuck me and my family are gonna survive if this thing lasts much longer? I want to fucking scream at someone right now.

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 12:23 (five years ago) link

It is insane that 1,500+ crowdfunding campaigns have been set up so far for federal staffers when their pay is literally crowdfunded by taxes in the first place.

I'm done tolerating Alex Jones & Roger Stone lies & defamation. My lawyers are right. I never held a gov job. I'm not FBI, CIA, or Mossad. I never received "hush money" from Infowars. I'm not testifying for Mueller. But I will take appropriate steps to protect my reputation.

How would this even work?

SCOOP: @WhiteHouse has sent a letter to the Sergeant-At-Arms, asking to schedule a walk-through for the SOTU address. SAA cancelled a walk-through last week at the request of @SpeakerPelosi . @realDonaldTrump still plans to be at the Capitol on Jan 29 for the speech

He seems to think that either she's not serious or that he has the authority to override her cancellation

the President does not have authority over the SAA

Senate Democrats could boycott that. Would be interesting to see him speak to a mostly empty chamber. SOTU has become amazingly tedious ever since Reagan turned it into a parade of "inspiring stories of ordinary people, who I invited to come sit in the gallery tonight".

dubya's were good for throwing things at the TV, and at least 1-2 bizarre "this makes sense only to readers of some evangelical chain letter" policy initiatives like bringing an end to "human-animal hybrids." nowadays the entire presidency is that, with fox news scare stories replacing the church panic program, so there's really no reason to watch at all.

Trump should deliver his SOTU (so close to STFU, makes you think) in front of a green screen full of adoring fans and/or dinosaurs.

Did Trump close down the government to prevent the Dems from taking over is that even more obvious than him throwing a temper tantrum over the border wall

Stevolende, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 19:31 (five years ago) link

The part of the government that is shutdown isn’t congress. It’s mainly staff employees of all political persuasions.

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 19:46 (five years ago) link

Senior WH official tells us that the reporting is inaccurate. The Covington Kids have not been invited. Senior WH aide says: “They are not coming tomorrow, they are not coming this week, that does not mean they are not going to come at all? will be interesting to see if any Dem Senators take the bait on McConnell's package - Manchin seems like the only real potential "get" but I don't think even he is that stupid.

seems reasonable. Pelosi could promise a vote and control the bill, ensuring it's defeat. works for me!

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 20:48 (five years ago) link

It still says wall funding debate would follow the government reopening, and so far that's really the sticking point, isn't it?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 20:54 (five years ago) link

yup

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 20:55 (five years ago) link

the real issue isn't the wall, it's using a gov't shutdown as leverage for a specific legislative priority that would not otherwise pass congress

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 20:55 (five years ago) link

yeah, i can't tell there whether Politico is being willfully dumb or they are assuming any conservatives who read the article are that stupid.
