lol I never even noticed infinity symbol standing out as being any different from all the other ilxors that merge into an amorphous lump. there are a few I register as being particular individual posters but not that many tbh. What were his worst posts?

kinder, Saturday, 12 January 2019 08:44 (five years ago) link

Lots of posts about the size of his dick and how much sex he had

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Saturday, 12 January 2019 08:55 (five years ago) link

Don't know any of these people, must be going to the wrong, or right, threads.

Never Turn Your Back On Virginia Woolf (Tom D.), Saturday, 12 January 2019 10:51 (five years ago) link

I think it’s safe to assume that the posts about all the cool sex he has are as credible as his posts about all the cool sox he has

Pierrot with a thousand farces (wins), Saturday, 12 January 2019 13:48 (five years ago) link

I will miss infinity

calstars, Saturday, 12 January 2019 13:57 (five years ago) link

i'm not sure what exactly is under discussion here. i have no comment on infinity symbol. posting 11 years (and before that as whatever i posted as) through most of my 20s there were some rough posts in there that i would apologize for (several were last week, unfortunately) and would prefer were never seen by human eyes and i was often too familiar with my ilx friends which i chalk up to reading the board hundreds thousands of hours but posting very little after, like, 2010 + relative anonymity (but i linked to articles i wrote with my full name on them! and my book! partly i guess people that knew me and who i talked to on aim or irl stopped posting here, though, and i think part of maintaining ilx credibility is posting enough that people don't have to look up your past posts and see you telling the world horrible things about yourself) and a limited number of options for ungoogleable and mostly sympathetic places to spill my guts.

XxxxxxxXxxxxxxxxXxxxx (dylannn), Saturday, 12 January 2019 14:07 (five years ago) link

reading threads about regular posters everyone apparently hates is so depressing, it makes me feel like i'm not reading closely enough or something because for most of them i have no opinions beyond "oh yeah i do remember seeing that dn on a lot of posts"

and because i overpersonalize everything it makes me wonder what obnoxious posting habits i have that people will complain about when i'm gone (probably overpersonalizing everything)

Sigur Ros or Pomplamoose type shit (rushomancy), Saturday, 12 January 2019 14:18 (five years ago) link

infinity was very schticky and an extreme outlier

rip van wanko, Saturday, 12 January 2019 14:27 (five years ago) link

consistently terrible (but otherwise unremarkable)

new board etc

mark s, Saturday, 12 January 2019 14:45 (five years ago) link

“reading threads about regular posters everyone apparently hates is so depressing, ”
^^^

calstars, Saturday, 12 January 2019 14:50 (five years ago) link

i dunno about apparently hates apart from wins but thing about wins is that its more he has a dry critical eye when categorising these things imo

topical mlady (darraghmac), Saturday, 12 January 2019 15:03 (five years ago) link

i just amnt sure that infinity actually exists which is obv a different thing

topical mlady (darraghmac), Saturday, 12 January 2019 15:04 (five years ago) link

It’s a bit obtuse to act like everyone’s randomly laying into some earnest unassuming poster here. That dumb valedictory thread says it all, this was a dude who was going out of his way to get a reaction - the fact that it fell flat and only produced a mild eyeroll is neither here nor there (although it sums up his posting career quite well)

Pierrot with a thousand farces (wins), Saturday, 12 January 2019 15:14 (five years ago) link

dylannn your rap posts/threads were always dope

fuck the NRA (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 January 2019 15:18 (five years ago) link

Infinity constantly talked about boning

fuck the NRA (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 January 2019 15:18 (five years ago) link

Threads where people talk about boning are threads that I don't read tbh.

Never Turn Your Back On Virginia Woolf (Tom D.), Saturday, 12 January 2019 15:48 (five years ago) link

It was a travel thread!

fuck the NRA (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 January 2019 15:49 (five years ago) link

He’d bring it up whenever

I have measured out my life in coffee shop loyalty cards (silby), Saturday, 12 January 2019 15:51 (five years ago) link

i don't read travel threads either! honestly there's probably a lot of awful shit people say that i miss because it's in the middle of a conversation about the cure or something

Sigur Ros or Pomplamoose type shit (rushomancy), Saturday, 12 January 2019 15:53 (five years ago) link

Could have done with him in the Belle & Sebastian thread.

Never Turn Your Back On Virginia Woolf (Tom D.), Saturday, 12 January 2019 15:53 (five years ago) link

fold yr hands child you bone like a peasant

mark s, Saturday, 12 January 2019 15:55 (five years ago) link

The poster that infinity symbol most reminded me of was Calum

Ward Fowler, Saturday, 12 January 2019 16:15 (five years ago) link

Hopefully he’s on to better things. In the cold light of day, I feel like we should lay off infinity sign. If he’s reading this it can’t feel good... even if he was troll-y

Trϵϵship, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:02 (five years ago) link

I was shit talking too so i’m not throwing stones. Just feel like it should be remembered he never made this a hostile place.

Trϵϵship, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:03 (five years ago) link

Ban fake treeship

Pierrot with a thousand farces (wins), Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:05 (five years ago) link

xp
imo you are wrong about that, but I'm not going to spend time digging through old posts for evidence

rob, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:06 (five years ago) link

Yeah he was noxious

I have measured out my life in coffee shop loyalty cards (silby), Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:15 (five years ago) link

I mean it is obviously nice to think he stopped posting because he suddenly got a job or a girlfriend or simply grew up, and if he’s lurking that is very sad (for him I mean - obv it is happier for us than him posting); I’d feel bad about pointing out his inadequacies in the very low-stakes game of being popular on the unpopular messageboard ilx if it weren’t for the fact that he was clearly kind of a prick

Pierrot with a thousand farces (wins), Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:16 (five years ago) link

I found him good natured usually. He was glad to be ilx's house churl/boor though and that's never been welcomed here fbow

rip van wanko, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:19 (five years ago) link

i'm sorry, i'm missing something - did they self-ban or something?

Karl Malone, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:20 (five years ago) link

it’s a low stakes game but they play for keeps — ilx the movie. xp

Trϵϵship, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:20 (five years ago) link

Retired, karl. And claimed they were not an individual but a collective.

Trϵϵship, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:21 (five years ago) link

ilx is funny like that, most places embrace content-free boorishness

Pierrot with a thousand farces (wins), Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:21 (five years ago) link

ah, thanks treeship

a collective? ok, gotta go re-read the thread, sorry

Karl Malone, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:22 (five years ago) link

Maybe not in fancy england wins but here in america blah blah etc xp

Trϵϵship, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:24 (five years ago) link

The thing is ilx has a lot of beloved/behated one-note trolls but this one was just particularly rubbish at what he was trying to do, which is why this is the first and only time he has really been discussed (and only now thanks to a deems bored conspiracy theory)

Pierrot with a thousand farces (wins), Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:26 (five years ago) link

He borrowed the joke from dayo in 2013. Not worth rereading imo xp

Trϵϵship, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:26 (five years ago) link

"Our little project was not without its faults, of course, but we are just regular guys after all. A few did not stay in character and posted as regular users, developing bonds and connections that were not the team's initial intent. That was to be expected, though, as this was purely voluntary and done on downtime."

lol, this explains so much! sometimes i'd interact with infinity and they'd be totally nice! and then they'd be a total asshole other times, and then soon afterward i'd forget what their deal was and repeat the whole cycle

Karl Malone, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:27 (five years ago) link

There were a few days last year where he seemed to be sexually harrassing me. That was weird.

Trϵϵship, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:28 (five years ago) link

“As a joke,” i guess but bad joke. Forget the specifics

Trϵϵship, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:29 (five years ago) link

Good lord Karl, it wasn’t a collective

Pierrot with a thousand farces (wins), Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:37 (five years ago) link

I miss banaka

fuck the NRA (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:37 (five years ago) link

He said something nasty in reference to a poster’s personal history kind of recently, which I don’t think really hit as hard as he hoped and said more about himself than his target.

omar little, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:39 (five years ago) link

Good lord Karl, it wasn’t a collective

oh, ok.
well, i guess at this point i'll join the chorus of people who conclude "...who cares about any of this"

Karl Malone, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:41 (five years ago) link

wins otm. discussing him this much now is some Philippides shit

rob, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:42 (five years ago) link

i am more interested in that metaphor, tbh

Karl Malone, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:45 (five years ago) link

There is no “I” we are all a collective, as infinity sign once said with trademark eloquence

Trϵϵship, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:45 (five years ago) link

My usual rule of thumb is to never acknowledge or interact w/anyone when they’re begging for attention or desperately trying to be controversial.

Also if 77 is considered by many a board for more personal content that will remain on the low, maybe quite seriously make sure the posters who are allowed on there aren’t potential creeps.

omar little, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:48 (five years ago) link

I realize we’re all potentially creeps

omar little, Saturday, 12 January 2019 18:49 (five years ago) link

Yeah like 77 can never be “vetted”
