Fizzles, Saturday, 5 January 2019 11:12 (five years ago) link

mark s, Saturday, 5 January 2019 11:29 (five years ago) link

It was great!

Andrew Farrell, Saturday, 5 January 2019 19:32 (five years ago) link

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 2 April 2019 12:31 (five years ago) link

Would like to, but work + the rest terrible for next few months. Will go at some point in the future though!

gyac, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:05 (five years ago) link

Thursday evenings are best for me.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:16 (five years ago) link

Me too. And I like SE1 :)

Tim, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:17 (five years ago) link

Let's do a Thursday in SE1 somewhere then :).

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:22 (five years ago) link

I'm usually in London on Thursdays (not this week because I'm seeing the Cosmic Psychos on Friday), and my train goes from London Bridge, which appears to be in SE1!

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:24 (five years ago) link

Well well well just look at this all potentially working out nicely for people and stuff. :) Next Thursday or the week after? The week after would be right before a holiday but that might mean people are away.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:27 (five years ago) link

I can't do next week but currently can the week after, not that these facts should make much difference.

Tim, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:30 (five years ago) link

I can do both - I am away over Easter, so I probably wouldn't be out for long on the 18th, but I could definitely come out.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:36 (five years ago) link

next week bad. any of the following weeks would love to do as it was only a flying visit last time.

Fizzles, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:36 (five years ago) link

So you're all talking about the 18th, right?

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:47 (five years ago) link

Yes.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 14:13 (five years ago) link

I haven't FAP'd for years but I do FAP, if you see what I mean.

Thursdays might work for me.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 14:17 (five years ago) link

think 18th might work

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 14:19 (five years ago) link

thur usually good for me, don't think i have any bad clashes coming up (assuming tomorrow's alien-invasion trans-world stand-by i dremt abt last night is wrongly dated )

mark s, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 14:25 (five years ago) link

Still listening to Hawkwind then?

Angry Question Time Man's Flute Club Band (Tom D.), Tuesday, 2 April 2019 14:26 (five years ago) link

18th is grebt because the next day is GOOD FRIDAY. Which means no work which means more booze. Not that this has ever necessarily etc.

Fizzles, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 19:31 (five years ago) link

True.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 19:51 (five years ago) link

maundy thursday
mandé thursday
"mandatum" thursday
"mandatum novum do vobis ut diligatis invicem sicut dilexi vos" thursday
"a new commandment I give unto you: that you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another" thursday

e.g. everyone has to wash everyone else's feet iirc

*hawkwind throbbing in the background*

mark s, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 20:21 (five years ago) link

MJ - Yay!

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 3 April 2019 09:48 (five years ago) link

I thought Michael Jackson was evil?

Angry Question Time Man's Flute Club Band (Tom D.), Wednesday, 3 April 2019 09:49 (five years ago) link

I hope this MJ makes it to 51 :/

Billie Jean *King*, Dirty Diane Arbus, etc etc

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 3 April 2019 10:08 (five years ago) link

In age, or qty of FPs?

Mark G, Wednesday, 3 April 2019 10:10 (five years ago) link

The former, then the latter. Or vice versa, I'm honestly not fussy.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 3 April 2019 10:13 (five years ago) link

bump

Colonel Poo, Monday, 15 April 2019 09:17 (five years ago) link

Venue?

Do you like 70s hard rock with a guitar hero? (Tom D.), Monday, 15 April 2019 09:18 (five years ago) link

mark s, Monday, 15 April 2019 10:08 (five years ago) link

Daniel_Rf, Monday, 15 April 2019 10:43 (five years ago) link

The George?

xyzzzz__, Monday, 15 April 2019 12:08 (five years ago) link

Came here to bump but see that's already been done. YAY!

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 15 April 2019 12:56 (five years ago) link

george is always always rammed IME but maybe everywhere will be. maunday thursday!

mark s, Monday, 15 April 2019 13:20 (five years ago) link

You're all just showing off because my attempt to organise an Oxford FAP has died (again).

djh, Monday, 15 April 2019 20:29 (five years ago) link

didn't realise you were trying to organise an Oxford FAP, djh. Revive the thread, I'd be well up for it.

Grandpont Genie, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 04:58 (five years ago) link

The only other pub I like around Borough is ILB fap fave Royal Oak but yes that will be rammed too.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 07:30 (five years ago) link

Are there any that maybe you like a little less but will also be less likely to be rammed? If not let's just pick one of those and hope for the best.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 09:23 (five years ago) link

Kings Arms is pleasant but tiny
Royal Oak not much larger – we are best used to it, despite change of management.
The George is v characterful but has not much bar for the number of customers it seats (bcz it has such an extensive outside area).
Lord Clyde: fond memories but haven't been there for years
Globe Tavern (in the market): enraging overcrowded visit last time I was there (to meet up w/Geeta) but it was amateur month so
Blue Eyed Maid: horrible sports and karaoke barn

There's another one near the Lord Clyde I think, with various dusty stuffed animals above the bar?

mark s, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 09:34 (five years ago) link

Also in the area: The Southwark Tavern, The Mudlark (under London Bridge), the Anchor (by the river near the Clink)

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 09:39 (five years ago) link

I had forgotten Amateur Month: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/pumpkin/2005/12/warning-pub-amateur-month-has-begun/

Though if I ever knew what a flyer was, I have forgotten that too.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 09:42 (five years ago) link

I was in the Bunch of Grapes the other day and there were seats, but it was later on like 8:30-9ish and on a Tuesday

I've been to the George a couple of times and yeah it was busy

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 09:48 (five years ago) link

a flyer is a swift solo pint i think? i may be wrong but the clue is in the context really

mark s, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 09:55 (five years ago) link

Might be able to come out for once. Make up for missing too many ilb faps.

Lord Clyde is an old favourite, but like mark s haven't been in a few years.
I cannot remember going to the The Glad(stone) even though it had a good rep. Is that the stuffed animals one?
The Roebuck, down Great Dover St, used to be alright.
All the in-market pubs tend to the enragingly overcrowded imo, but The Market Porter is surprisingly spacious and I quite like it as big, busy pubs go
Bunch of Grapes might be the pub I've most frequently passed without ever buying a drink in. It's become a sort of principle, not drinking there.
King's Arms off the High Street used to be reliably quiet, not so sure now - http://freakytrigger.co.uk/pumpkin/2009/11/the-ft-top-25-pubs-of-the-00s-25-the-kings-arms-borough/
Weird fondness for The Old King's Head but only remember being there when drinking to get properly drunk.
(quick shout for The Rose on Snowsfields, which used to be my local and favourite pub in the world, but is now just a nice, awkwardly shaped gastropub)

woof, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 10:10 (five years ago) link

I can't make it on Thursday but Borough in general is not a great place to do this at the start of a Bank Holiday weekend and the closer to the market you are the worse it will be.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 10:12 (five years ago) link

It was someone's request that we do it around there, right? I've never been to any of these so am leaving it up to you all to decide.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 10:15 (five years ago) link

I'm happy so many people seem to be able to come!

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 10:15 (five years ago) link

MattDC - next time!

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 10:15 (five years ago) link

Yeah the SE1 thing was probably my fault and if anyone has brilliant ideas for better spots that won't be full and are convenient for people to drop in they should suggest them.

(The Lord Clyde is as good as ever but probably a bit small for these purposes; they do allow you to reserve tables in the back room I think but I am against such behaviours.)

(Yes a flyer is when you're on a round but the people you're drinking with are drinking at a sensible speed and you're in need of another when they're nowhere near so you get yourself a quick off-round drink while still remaining in the round.)

Tim, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 11:12 (five years ago) link

I've heard SE7 is nice
