As am I. I'm most excited about seeing Kinski, who I have not seen before. The album teaser that Sub Pop sent out is amazing. So good.

Yancey (ystrickler), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 15:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

Her name is Cotton Casino.

And she's credited on the new album on Alien8 as playing among other things 'beer' and 'cigarettes,' both of which she did with utter aplomb.

Kinski will blow your mind out of the door and into the next street, my friends. They were the band right before AMT at Terrastock and all I can say is, oh my.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 15:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

I can't wait then. And Oneida and Acid Mothers are always solid performers. Should be an amazing show.

Yancey (ystrickler), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 15:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

btw, AMT's new one (until next month or so) Electric Heavyland is ELECTRIC HEAVY. It's going to destroy a lot of people.

dleone (dleone), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 15:26 (twenty-one years ago) link

Who released it? It seems that Squealor isn't releasing much AMT stuff these days. Not sure what's up with that.

Yancey (ystrickler), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 15:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ah, yes, that's the name of the album, it's the Alien8 one. Squealor won't be releasing much more in comparison, I think, because Eclipse Records is now pretty much the main AMT distributor/release mechanism for the States. And deservedly so, Ed from Eclipse being a scholar and a gent.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 16:09 (twenty-one years ago) link

Whachoo trying to say about my bro Butch from Squealor? Huh Ned??? He's a scholar and an even bigger gent! Plus he once played in the wonderfully named band '68 Youth Riot. Take that!

Yancey (ystrickler), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 16:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

Then we're all happy! :-) Nothing against Butch, it's just that Eclipse seemed to be the main gateway these days, at least in America.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 16:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

I know Ned. I jest.

Yancey (ystrickler), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 16:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

Im still utterly amazed at how she failed to spill beer even once while balancing the beer on the thingy and doing her dance over it wearing a loose fitting sweater and still chain smoking like a member of GYBE.

Well I know exactly what it was, I was hoping she would do the little wrestling salute thingy when someone yelled "Suck It!" but that might have been too much for my brian to handle after 12 hours of that stinky pit.

I have a feeling that Kinski will be blowing up soon!!! The 2 times I saw them this week were killer!!! I love Acid Mothers Live but I'm not as into their records.. In fact I'm going to see them right now in Vermont.Tah

My pet peve is people who spell my name wrong. I usually have the biggest crushes on those who ask me if I spell Bryan with a "y" or "i"

Now getting back to the topic, I caught AMT last night in Vermont at a place that legally was allowed to hold about 50 people. It was crowded but not packed. The Mothers were a bit tired but solid and did a few different songs than the set at Terrastock that was basiclly full on rock. No chanting or much singing because the PA was tiny. It was still very loud, I still cant hear anything.

Where's the AMT love? Almost all the threads concerning AMT seem to be pre-Cosmic Inferno. Anthem of the Space, Mantra of Love, Demons from Nipples, and Just Another Band from the Cosmic Inferno are some of my favorite albums by them.

Anyone else looking forward to Starless & Bible Black Sabbath? Do people who don't like Acid Mothers Temple take music too seriously? Long form psychedelic freak-out sessions are great for working, cleaning house, and commuting!

After a while I just decided there was just too many Acid Mothers Temple albums coming out every week and went back to listening to "La Novia" and that sixty minute track on the 3CD thing.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 9 February 2006 00:25 (eighteen years ago) link

Most of what I have I've downloaded. 1.47gb of AMT I've dl'd and ripped from CD. I like putting it all on shuffle and just letting it blare out of the speakers all day at work. I have a hard time finding their stuff on CD, and am too broke to invest seriously, but when I can I intend to buy everything I can. The releases have been slowing down, and to my ears the Cosmic Inferno stuff sounds more focused. I love La Novia, though - one of my favorites for sure.

I also forgot to mention IAO Chant from the Cosmic Inferno as another great Cosmic Inferno release.

forgot my password..., Thursday, 9 February 2006 00:56 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, I think they got better after Cosmic Inferno. IAO Chant is focused and well-recorded. Anthem of the Space is the same. I got a lot of the older stuff because it was hyped so much, but it's hard to enjoy a lot of that 3CD Family album much at all and the rest is mostly meandering poorly-recorded near-crap, really, if you think about it. Yeah, it sounds cool, but it's the same noises over and over again. I do very much like the "Freak Out!" one with the naked girls. That might be my favorite. Electric Heavyland is pretty good, but the Cosmic Inferno stuff is better. And, yes, I am looking forward to Starless & Bible Black Sabbath. I'm not buying any more of the old ones, only new ones from now on.

Guitarboy, Thursday, 9 February 2006 01:45 (eighteen years ago) link

Saw them late last year. Fantastic set! OM Riff, Anthem of Space, and another which I can't remember were played. They closed with OM Riff, and it was about 15 minutes of it. Set was just under two hours, if I recall. Got out of the venue around 2am. Loudest I've ever seen. :)

Superphysical Resurrection (NickB), Monday, 8 October 2012 13:52 (eleven years ago) link

La Novia is definitely among their very best. Mantra of Love is also really great and along the same lines, a little dreamier perhaps but like La Novia it is an interpretation of an Occitan folk tunes.

I guess it's worth posting some recommendations since their catalog is so overwhelming. I'm not a huge fan of the live show and the albums that are more freaked-out, although I do like that side of the band of course. I just much prefer the drone and low-key oriented works (and also the more Hawkwind-esque rock action of AMT Cosmic Inferno!) to the standard AMT sound.

Other favorites of mine are In 0 to Infinity, Interstellar Guru and Zero, Magical Power from Mars, Troubadours from Another Heavenly World. These albums are mostly drone/looping/synth focused.

Although not even remotely restrained, the AMT Cosmic Inferno albums Anthem of the Space, Cosmic Funeral Route 666, LAO Chant From the Cosmic Inferno are all pretty essential too if you've acquired the taste.

The Andromelos (Kawabata + Masonna/Space Machine) album is awesome and pretty undervalued. It's spacey synthesizers (think a slightly unhinged Tangerine Dream) and live drums.

I also really like Kawabata's solo things that I've heard, esp. Hosanna Mantra and Your Voice From The Moon, which are drone/ambient focused and quite excellent.

liam fennell, Monday, 8 October 2012 14:44 (eleven years ago) link

La Novia is way cool, but my favorite out of the ones I've heard is definitely the first one. SPEED GURU. Plus, Pink Lady Lemonade is at its best as an eight minute sigh imo

need to give the new one Son of a Bitches Brew a listen, I really liked the AMT albums released last year...

Finally listening to that (first?) Stearica collab, and woah, it barely sounds like AMT aside from some scifi fx in the background, otherwise this is sometimes HEAVY, usually moody post-metal.

I recently managed to get hold of the "Hey Good Child"/"You're My Boy" single and enjoyed it. This is my first listen to AMT - is there anything else in their back catalogue akin to those songs, or is that release a bit atypical? Other stuff I've sampled (and bear in mind, it wasn't much) didn't seem too similar. Any help appreciated

Duane Barry, Tuesday, 31 December 2013 19:42 (ten years ago) link

I haven't heard "You're My Boy," but they do have a bunch of more sedate releases (La Novia being the consensus fav in this regard, and there's also Mantra of Love), if not actually sharing the same acoustic (+ effects) arrangements.

Neil Nosepicker (Leee), Sunday, 5 January 2014 22:13 (ten years ago) link

Thanks. If you're curious the single is at this blog:

Duane Barry, Sunday, 5 January 2014 22:55 (ten years ago) link

neither of these tracks sound particularly atypical. many of their albums (not that i've heard even half of them) feature tracks like these tucked between the heavier stuff.
