yeah. ..but considering that ESG, liquid liquid, new order, shriekback, etc all served as dance (post-punk dance in my opinion) leads to some pretty serious comparitives. i was ineffectively trying to convey that whole scene, which encompasses quite a few bands.

i'm not saying don't listen. especially live, i think the rapture are fuckin amazing. so are the liars. no wave funk punk indeed!! hot damn!

!!! is post-punk solely due to the fact that the members are quite literally former (and continuing) members of punk bands and play with punk bands. were the slits not punk then? guilty by association at least.

A bit?!? I thought it highlighted just how important it is for Gang of Four-style post-punk to be tight, otherwise it just sounds like a big ugly mess. I did like that song "Out Of The Races And Onto The Tracks" though.

The original question asked 'or of that ilk' and some of the, erm, 'ilk' turned up in the LCD Soundsystem thread (or the wildbuch one - erm can't find it Tom started it last week), y'know the one.

Where was I? Oh yes, well obviously LCD are of that ilk, but who else? Are they getting, erm, 'ilked' with the electroclash folks? If so I can feel a 3hour lecture of my record buying in the early 80s coming on. While I've repeatedly commented that the Gang Of Four and the Human league were on the same lable and played gigs together because they were both part of the same thing - thats not the same as saying they are the same thing.

Another contradiction, The Rapture don't feel old, but are clearly - whats the word, not avoiding the 'i' word, its just not the right one. Lets just say I wouldn't be surprised in there is a copy of 'Contort Yourself' and 'Anthrax' in their record collections. Some (most) electroclash feels old to me - though i need a different word there as I am not meaning that pejoratively. Even my beloved Detroit Cobras and The Dirtbomns feel old in the sense Im grasping for here.

So name that ilk folks! Already sought down radio 4 (um not sure) and Erase Errata (umm, not for me thanks).

Not counting the US and UK versions of the first album seperately and not counting that thing with the frog on it that came with Faith (erm, Carnage Visor?), I would say there are only four cure albums in there (ie not The Top). I just checked on Allmusic and its definately four. One of the reviews mentions 'angular' so its defintely post- punk.

Later period Cure there may be a debate but surely only the most churlishly would deny the impact and power of those four?

Last one may be debatable, but the seeds are there.

The Rat-Pure on the other hand are fucking amazing. Ditto to what everyone above has said about them.

ESOJ, I gathered that the album is closer to "Olio" in nature so they decided not to disrupt its sound. I do hope there's a comp soon, though.

I like "How Deep Is Your Love" but not really feeling most of the rest of this. dude's new singing style is taking some getting used to, when I heard the single I thought it was a totally different person.

Methods are detailed for isolating highly pure populations of spermatogonial stem cells from primary cultures of testis cells prepared from 22- to 24-day-old rats. The procedure is based on the principle that testicular somatic cells bind tightly to plastic and collagen matrices when cultured in serum-containing medium, whereas spermatogonia and spermatocytes do not bind to plastic or collagen when cultured in serum-containing medium. The collagen-non-binding testis cells obtained using these procedures are thus approx. 97% pure spermatogenic cells. Stem spermatogonia are then easily isolated from the purified spermatogenic population during a short incubation step in culture on laminin matrix. The spermatogenic cells that bind to laminin are more than 90% undifferentiated, type A spermatogonia and are greatly enriched in genetically modifiable stem cells that can develop into functional spermatozoa. This method does not require flow cytometry and can also be applied to obtain enriched cultures of mouse spermatogonial stem cells. The isolated spermatogonia provide a highly potent and effective source of stem cells that have been used to initiate in vitro and in vivo culture studies on spermatogenesis.

yeah same. loved some of their singles but not really a fan of the albums. that was an awesome interview though. cool to see a musician so into being a Dad. also the stuff re: James Murphy matches up with what I've heard about him.

saw them last night. still one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Like most bands, they should never play a space larger than where I saw them last night. They were amazing, the crowd lost their shit, the various phases/sounds they've played with blended great, and even stuff that I like the least on the albums sounded totally killer live and loud. Amazing energy, great show.
