The disc I have, ED MN 1005 (starts with "Galaxy"), is classic.

so Dumitrescu actually spent a week in America performing his works (including "Galaxy") at the University of Minnesota and I'm only hearing about this now... was this the first time he'd been in the States?

I can't find any reviews online. did anyone go?

I saw him play in London about 10 or 11 years ago, a pretty outstanding evening. Can't remember what he played though. I have about 15 of his / their cds, I have to play them some more as I just tend to think of it as one big droning mass of dronesome drones, which I know isn't really the case. Terrible artwork though.

Could use a Wire-style primer on this guy. Volcanic Tongue just evoked him in the same paragraph as Henry Flynt, so I'm interested now, despite my usual disinterest in 'contemporary classical' and all of the connotations therein. Somebody school me!

At a concert in London a few years ago with Hyperion he had a brilliant composer's strop at Tim Hodgkinson for doing something wrong on the bass clarinet, I guess. Dumi disappeared from the venue for a good half hour. It was all very uncomfortable and dramatic. Later he played back galactically cataclysmic computer pieces through a portable PA at irresponsible volume.

Classic, in other words.

RIP Ana-Maria Avram. This one really hurts, not only totally unexpected but recent pieces was some of her absolute best. I always loved early pieces like 'Zodiaque III' but that recent ED MN 1029 CD was ridiculous, and going through her soundcloud today on good speakers, I'm hearing myself yell at least once during every track

I might start with 'Metal Storm (Computer Assisted Version) for Stephen O'Malley' if you're impatient or just dive in
