Several versions of "Frontier Psychiatrist"?

That REALLY confused me. I couldn't understand why the UK album version had rerecorded samples, but the single version had the proper versions despite the fact that the single came after the album. I assumed it might have something to do with a royalty clause but never found out the proper reason.

Ah. My version doesn't have those samples you mentioned, but it does have the "right" version of "Frontier Psychiatrist". I would really like to hear the original version, but I suppose it's pretty rare, right? (Wasn't there something with a Robert De Niro sample as well?)

Oh, this so begs for someone to post the different versions online somewhere, for comparison.

on my copy there's a sample of de niro from midnight run asking for "a bottle of your finest champagne". can't remember which song it is.

but lets get this straight - are you saying the original version of 'Frontier Psychiatrist' has MORE than just the familiar 'Dexter's Lab' intro and the other lines:

'That boy needs therapy/psychosomatic/that boy needs therapy/purely psychomatic/that boy needs therapy/please lie down on the couch...
but what does that mean? you're a nut! you're crazy in the coconut/psychosomatic/that boy needs therapy/i'm gonna kill you/that boy needs therapy/(grab a?) kazoo, lets have a tune/now whn i count three/th-th-th-th-that b-boy needs therapy....he was white as a sheet/and he also made false teeth'

'have i ever told you about cowboys and indians.../i was in another world.../the man with the golden eyeball/now tighten your buttocks/pour juice on your chin/promised my girlfriend i'd pick up the violin... etc.

is that the original or the later edited version?

No, there aren't any more samples, per say. But on the original version I downloaded, way before the album appeared in the UK, "that boy needs therapy" was delivered by one, deadpan sample. When I got round to buying it the following summer, all the vocal samples had been replaced by re-recorded ones, in much goofier voices.

Likewise, Extra Kings really misses the cascading flute sample that's laid over the top of it. Anyone know if its still possible to get my hands on a copy of the original?

hmmmm...i thought the 'boy needs therapy' sample was from Dexter's Lab tho yeh? so maybe they hadnt cleared the sample originally so just voiced it themselves?

and there is flute on the 'Extra Kings' on my copy...man this is confusing...i'll bring my mindisc copy next time i see you and you can tell me if its the original or not

i didnt buy a copy but copied it from a guy who did buy it in January 2001 and i assume this was the first official Uk release version

i dont have the dialogue bits from 'Radio' Matt pointed out tho, just the bits that sounds like 'sunning themselves, sunning themselves...' and 'sometimes you dont understand...' - zis is an outrage

clarification on the correct lyrics would be good too!

Do you have the "Suzy, he's looking at you" bit about half way through the album?

yep
