I'm mostly on-board w. Letham and want to second his Belle du Jour & Me and You and Everyone sentiments. I disagree w. Y Tu Mama Tambien, however.

Thank you.

Yes. Well.

Eh, the scene has been so over-reviewed that I doubt there's much left to say.

I'm looking forward to that Miranda July movie. Ebert RAVED about it.

me too. i may be going to see it on friday.

i also thought about animal house when i clicked on this thread (i still haven't seen don't look now)

joseph (joseph), Thursday, 14 April 2005 05:09 (nineteen years ago) link

i've seen both.

recent tv edits i've seen of "animal house" (look, i was bored and at my parents', okay?) have digitally-added pants.

NO WAY

that may just be the normal tv version (no crazy cgi), i know they shot different version of the scene where belushi peeps thru the sorority window.

haha - "I Don't Believe It!"

yea, i toatally thought animal house. i love the way that scene has but reciprosity, first you get Karen Allen's butt for the lads, then not a moment later the ladies are catered for.

i saw animal house, but only once and quite a while ago, could someone refresh my memory?

I watched the commentary for the former and it was suggested that Severine was sodomized because A) the other employees turned down the Asian man's suggestions, B) the gentleman never removed Severine's top, and C) she's found lying on her stomach afterward and Alice brings the blanket over Severine's derriere. Severine may finally been fulfilled by the violence of the act (mirroring her fantasies about being whipped and whatnot at the beginning of the film) and I found that all curiously interesting.

Some of the students go round to hip, pot-smoking professor (Sutherland)'s house, where he greets them wearing, I think, an apron. When the camera shows him from behind, we see from his bare buttocks that he has nothing on under the apron.

no it is later, when boone finds out katie is cheating on him because the professor is at katie's house. and he's wearing a sweater.

Stence, you're absolutely right. I am disgusted at myself for getting it wrong. Fuck.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 April 2005 16:21 (nineteen years ago) link

it's okay, it's okay, take a deep breath.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 14 April 2005 16:21 (nineteen years ago) link

ahhhh... i see. i had no recollection of donald sutherland being in animal house.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Thursday, 14 April 2005 16:22 (nineteen years ago) link

My parents being irresposible hippies took me along to see it in the theaters with them, I must've been about five. I had a childhood crush on Donald Sutherland and I blame it on this buttocks scene.

he's the potsmoking prof who fesses up to milton sucking. rockt the house.

"(Oh, yes, I meet it often when I watch Barbara Stanwyck, and I wonder where our Barbara Stanwyck is hiding . . . might it be Maggie Gyllenhaal? On the strength of Secretary it seems possible . . . but then why aren't today's filmmakers making dozens of Maggie Gyllenhaal vehicles . . . what's their problem?)"

this statement is inexcusable and wrong
